The Coal Shed Brighton
Our method at The Coal Shed is simple: the highest quality ingredients, sourced as locally as possible and expertly cooked. As well as a seasonal à la carte menu, we also offer daily specials, a great value express lunch and pre theatre menu plus Brighton's favourite Sunday Sharing Roasts.
Have been before and have to say te new menu is not as good as the old one
The food was amazing, menu was slightly overpriced and service was great
Went to this place at the weekend after a recommendation from a friend.... glad we did.
The team are really accommodating, we changed the booking time twice due to travel issues.
The steaks are excellent, we had the Chateaubriand and it was one of the best I’ve had. Great selection of wine...
really worth a visit
Had a fantastic porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection! Would have chosen a larger one but 900g was the largest they had. Still, it was just for me and with a generous portion of garlic butter on top I was a very happy boy :)
Oh and the desert, oh boy, that was scrumptious :D
Best meal I have had in a long time!
Great food great service and a good atmosphere.
Great food and lovely staff in a charming atmosphere. If pushed for a negative, I would suggest that the food is possibly a little overpriced.
Lovely dining experience, staff are very attentive and friendly. Delicious menu and options.
Good food cooked well. Attentive service and very knowledgeable about the menu....
Food was excellent and service was prompt and courteous. Wine list is a little expensive with limited choice under £40 per bottle, that said the wine we had was great.
The most amazing Sunday lunch!!
Until last Sunday we would have rated the coal shed as one of our favourite restaurants but sadly the manager’s approach/ restaurant policy last Sunday has greatly tarnished that.
The food was once more exceptional and our main waitress was very good, but the rest of our experience was poor which for a£300 bill for four plus a 12:5% service charge left a rather sour taste.
I would think very carefully about going again or recommending the coal shed to friends & family.
Despite coming in on the Saturday to request that nobody enquires after the rest of my party as it was a surprise for my wife on her birthday, and this information being entered into the IPad, the first thing the waitress asks is about the other guests. I thought I had managed to bluster her away but my wife twigged it and it really spoilt my surprise. Why do your staff not prepare for their guests and research the information. Thank God I do not suffer from a nut allergy because with that useless waitress, I could well now be dead.
Food and service was excellent, would highly recommend for a roast
Food was great. Told them it was our anniversary and a complimentary pudding came out. Staff and food was amazing. Would recommend.
Lovely dining area and really helpful staff. Food was a good quality and full of flavour.
Made to feel welcome with two children.
Another lovely meal at the Coal
Shed, the rib eye was great as ever along with the bernaise sauce. Slightly disappointed by the chips although they had a great flavour not overly hot. Still overall great service, food and ambiance.
Really worth a visit food and service was great . Now we have found it we will be back
Food was spot on, exactly want we wanted , yes it's expensive BUT very worth it. Only downside was the addition of a service charge to the bill.
We enjoyed a simply succulent steak-based dinner, impeccably cooked and served, as we've come to expect from Brighton's Coal Shed team.
It's always worth our journey from South London for food that good.
Keep up the good work 'Coal Shed'
Great atmosphere & location off the main streets. Great recommendations on food & wine. Overall a great evening, thanks!
The option for a carafe of wine is a great one that is often missed by most restaurants.
Will be recommending
Excellent service ambience lovely food. Will be back.
Been here a few times, food and service always good
We had a Sunday sharing roast and it was superb! Really tasty food, beef was cooked medium rare as requested, which you usually find is over done.
The service was very good, friendly, attentive and quick.
Only thing I would change was how crowded it felt as it was a busy Sunday.
We will definitely visit again and recommend.
Exceptional Sunday lunch - Black Aberdeen Angus steak was superb and well produced vegetables and accompaniments. Service was excellent throughout. Very friendly, polite and attentive.
Fantastic service and food. Lovey lunch out with friends. A great restaurant. I would return more frequently if I could afford it!
The Coal Shed is a go to favourite. It was a 'special' birthday and the wait staff were exceptionally helpful on the day. The wine selection was amazing and we were helped to select the best food and wine combo. I would highly recommend the Coal Shed to anyone who likes their beef and veg but particularly good steaks and cooked to perfection.
We used to be big fans of the Coalshed but the last 2 visits have been very disappointing. Ordered a fillet steak - which for £28 should have been amazing - it was overcooked and dry. Another member of our party had to send hers back. The meat was unseasoned and had absolutely no flavour - such a disappointment as this used to be one of my favourite restaurants!
Thank you for your review. I'm really sorry to hear that both your visits have been disappointing. With regard to the fillet steaks, we felt this was quickly rectified on the night, the bill was also discounted in light of the complaints, with this particular fillet being given on the house and the other discounted. We were of the impression that your party was happy with this. So I am sorry if that was not the case. We do hope you will give us another try. Many Thanks, The Coal Shed Team.
Super overpriced.steak was £28 and you had to pay extra for a sauce or chips. Only 1 veggie option
Took a friend for her birthday dinner. We wouldn't recommend the smoky lardy cake--it was tough and dry...we chose poorly. However, we shared a steak and sides and they were fantastic. If we were to do it again or give advice order 3 sides for two.
Love this place. Incredible food and good service
Great venue, lovely knowledgeable staff. Food was AMAZING, the short rib starter was out of this world, I cannot fault anything!
Really nice lunch, steak was delicious. Portion sizes a little small.
The food was amazing and the service was outstanding from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Second visit to the Shed, because the first time in December was great. Busy even for a Monday night. The food was excellent. I wanted to try a different starter, but the Jacob's Ladders were so good last time I couldn't bring myself to do so. The ensuing meat coma was bliss. Perhaps I should try the fish for a second course next time? I'd recommend the Primitivo. A little pricey, but worth it.
Warm welcome. Attentive, knowledgable and friendly service. Good food.
Disappointing. Bland food. ‘Beef dripping chips’ were just like plain McDonalds chips.
Lovely place fantastic steak great staff well worth a visit if your in Brighton
Truly excellent meal and service. Already looking forward to going back. Loved it.
On our second visit for Sunday lunch we were again very impressed with everything. Jo the waitress was professional, efficient and friendly. A really good experience. We had the Sunday roast which is cooked to perfection. The meat was very tasty (if I was with my son he would have wanted to whole rib to himself!) The vegetables also are cooked perfectly and the leek dish is superb. We will definitely be back again and have already recommended The Coalshed to several friends.
