The Coal Shed London
Open seven days a week, the restaurant uses the highest quality ingredients, sourced as locally as possible. Try the 35-day aged sharing steaks or the South Coast sharing fish for a dining experience to remember.
The Coal Shed London, occupies two floors and a bar for pre and post dinner drinks and cocktails expertly crafted. If you want to host your own event, there is a private dining room on the mezzanine or the restaurant can be exclusively hired for any type of occasion.
It was my sisters birthday and they wrote her a lovely message and brought her some extra treats to the table. Really lovely afternoon 👍
Dear Sir or Madam, I am happy that you had lovely afternoon celebrating your sisters birthday with us! Please visit again soon Warm regards, Lina
Me and my partner visited the coal shed on Saturday for the beginning of dinner service, I would recommend booking as it was quite busy.
The restaurant made our evening very special having just proposed to my partner before attending, the service was second to none and nothing was too much of an effort. Thank you very much for making our special day feel exactly that.
Dear Tomo, Congratulations again from everyone at The Coal Shed on this beautiful occasion! We're happy that chose our restaurant for your special evening. I wish you all the best in the future and sincerely hope to see you again! Warm regards, Lina
Jesus Christ, someone throw the bartender into the Thames straight away. How hard can it be to order a Manhattan on the rocks? After the third botch I just ordered the ingredients separately and said I would assemble it myself... I still got another Manhattan no rocks. Finally I just asked for a rosemary gin & tonic but it came with thyme instead. Also the béarnaise tasted gross.
This was my first visit and very likely to be my last. Ordered a large cut prime rib but it was overcooked, not to our requested tenderness. It was dry and tough, without the sauce it would be quite unpleasant to eat. But their mash was very very good.
Service was friendly but very slow and inattentive. I had to ask for someone to take order, and that person didn’t return so I had to ask for someone else. At this price point, I expect staff to be proactive. Clearly they were either understaffed or undertrained for busy times.
From my overall experience, I would say this place is overpriced. Many more steak restaurants out there with a similar price tag but much better service and ambience.
Dear Stella, Thank you for taking time to write a review. I am very sorry to read that your experience has not been up to expectations. Let me take this opportunity to assure you, that we take our guests feedback very seriously and your comments has been passed to Chefs and Management team. However, I sincerely hope you will give us a second chance and I'll see you in the future. Please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org for further reservations. Warm regards, Lina
As usual we had a lovely time at Coal shed London. The food and service were amazing. Even though one of the party had extreme food intolerance, they made a huge effort to accommodate. Well done.
Food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We told them that we had to get to the theatre and they brought us our bill quickly but also a surprise birthday chocolate pudding for my friend!
Dear Morwennah, I am pleased to read about your resent visit at our restaurant. Please, pass Happy Birthday message to your friend from me as well. I hope to see you again soon! Warm regards, Lina
This was my second visit and for this occasion my Wife’s birthday.
I’m not sure our waiter had had a great day as he wasn’t as engaging with us as I’d hoped for but not unpleasant.
The noise level was really high which made for an overall busy canteen effect which was a shame.
The food was good as it was before and served promptly so no issues there.
My wife did get a ‘Happy Birthday’ plate with two sweet treats - that was a nice touch.
The website says smart casual but most people I saw both inside and out were wearing shorts, t-shirts and trainers - not my idea of smart casual, if you’ve a dress code stick to it or probably don’t bother with it?
It was nice evening but didn’t feel very special, if it’s a works function great but probably not for a more personal family celebration.
Sadly a very poor and disappointing dining experience, having loved going to the Brighton Restaurant a few times. everything we tried to order from the sharing steak menu was sold out except for some very large cuts which were too much for two people. We were advised that this was due to a large group booking up stairs - frustrating for a Tuesday at 7pm that the kitchen was not sufficiently stocked.
We ended up having to order single steaks, one of which was not cooked to the requested tenderness. Service while very friendly was slow, clearly not able to cope with a busy down stairs, even though up stairs was quite empty except this large group. Women toilets had over flowing bins. Suggest looking to another of the steak restaurants, which at a similar pricing deliver a much better ambience, and are much better stocked.
Over priced, under delivering , again sad to say one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had in London for a long time which has driven me to write a negative review - stick to the Brighton one if you want to try the Coal Shed.
My friends were visiting from Australia and wanted ‘the best roast ever’
They were blown away and I was so chuffed at being the person who recommended we visit Coal Shed. Amazing.
Dear Candice, Thank you so much for your kind words. I am very happy that your friends enjoyed Sunday roast. I do hop to see you and your friends again in the nearest future (tho Australia it is a bit far) :) Warm Regards, Lina
Service was great but the food standard has slipped. Wasn’t as good as it used to be.
Service was great, pricing and food were OK
Not cheap by any means but a good solid venue
Acoustics need looking at on the ground floor though as quite noisy, 1st floor, much better
A tasty and efficient pre theatre meal, ideal if you want something light before the theatre
Friendly atmosphere and very attentive waiters.
Good lunch options.
Nice and quiet inside therefore very pleasant to actually have a conversation an be able to hear each other.
Staff were very attentive and friendly, food was very good, with the one exception of the dessert which was a sharing plate at £17. Although the pieces of 'coal' were nice the rest of it was average at best. It let the rest of the meal down, which the manager did accept and said he would discuss with the chefs. The four of us had a selection of starters and we all shared a 1.1kg rib steak, which was very nice.
Directions to the restuarant could be improved as many others have signs but the Coal Shed isn't labelled until you are just about outside.
Generous portions for pre theatre menu, with interesting choices. Very good service. Drinks a bit pricey.
Very good food - not everything available off the menus which was a bit annoying - service, wine and ambience pretty good.
Went for Sunday lunch. Starters and mains roast beef were very good. Dessert a bit disappointing - lack of good flavours. Service was efficient. Atmosphere is good if you like it busy, with tables quite close together. Overall, worth a visit. And so nice to see how this part of the South Bank has developed - a real buzz.
Our first time dining at this restaurant. We were blown away with the customer service, the cleanliness and the quality of the food. I would highly recommend to friends to visit the coal shed. The food is amazing. Best dining experience we have had to date. Well done to you all as a team. Compliments to the chef
Hello Hayley Thank you very much for the kind description of our restaurant and team. We hope to see you soon. Best regards Gojart General Manager
We had the shared Sunday roast and was exactly as described on the menu. For desert we had Lemon Tart and Summer Pudding, both very good.
Hello Edwin We would love to have you back soon for another great experience. Kind regards Gojart
Food was lovely, best cheesecake I’ve ever had!
The service is what made this place for me, Martin was out waiter and he made the night of catching up with friends, even more enjoyable!
Thank you Rowena We are happy you enjoyed the service. I totally agree on the fact that we have the chance to make the experience more enjoyable and i am happy we delivered. We definitely would love to see you back. Regards Gojart
Great pre theatre
We made it clear we were going to the theatre. We had 90 minutes, but still the main course came late and we had to rush our food and leave half unfinished because of the inept and appalling service. Shame, because we would have liked to use this place every time we go to the excellent Bridge Theatre. We will have to find somewhere else in future.
Went for the pre-theatre express menu. Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. Food was great and would definitely recommend.
Dear PeteM, Thank you very much for your lovely review. I am very happy that you enjoyed the food and service! We are looking forward seeing you in the future! Best regards, Lina
Haven't been here before but would definitely recommend, greeted by the lovely Alexandra and shown to our table, all very friendly and relaxed. I had a starter that was recommended and didn't disappoint, I also had the steak - I am really fussy about steaks and this was exceptional - certainly amongst the top 5 I have eaten, perfectly cooked and seasoned and complimented by the mash and spinach which were sublime!
Really, really enjoyed this venue and would happily recommend.
Dear Paul1532, Thank you for dinning with us. We are extremely happy to hear about your experience at the Coal Shed. I will pass your comments to Alexandra and the rest of the team. Hope to see you soon in the future. Best regards, Lina
It was a lovely restaurant and really beautiful, but unfortunately we wouldn’t go back. It is very expensive for what it is, and our starter was great but the steaks were average. We got our starters before we even ordered the main course, which they didn’t didn’t even take when bringing over the starter! So we didn’t order the main for nearing 45 minutes. For the price I just don’t think it’s worth it unfortunately, which is a shame as it’s in a great location and it’s decor is fabulous..
We had a great evening at the Coal Shed, attentive staff, knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was delicious. Lovely birthday dinner, thanks
LisaM we are very thankful for your comments. We are glad you could have great time with us and definitely we would like to see you back again. Kind regards Gojart Reci General Manager
Rather expensive pre theatre menu (compared with other local restaurants). Very slow prep for what's listed as a speedy menu. Nice enough place but the food offers less than what the menu promises.
Thank you Coal Shed - we really enjoyed our family celebration meal! Great ambiance and we received a warm, friendly welcome (even though we got lost en route and arrived late!). Great service too!
Lovely Sunday sharing roast for Fathers Day. Beautiful steak and great sides. They were very accommodating of our baby boy and had made sure there was plenty of room for his pram.
Dear Carlyrbkk Thank you for the lovely review, I am so glad that you had a great time on this important day for you. We do like to accommodate the our little guest in all possible situations. We look forward to you joining us again soon. Kind regards Gojart
The staff was friendly, unfortunately 2 steaks came out cold had to be sent back and came out cold again. Myslef and my partner both had the chicken, which horrifically turned both out stomachs within 45mins. A real let down.
Thank you for the feedback. We are very disappointed to hear of your experience We are sorry to hear that you experience it wasn’t at the level we want to work. I assure you we take these comments very seriously and I will pass these comments to my team and make sure this is not happening again. I would really appreciate if you give me the chance to recover this situation. Please contact me in my personal email address Gojart@coalshed-restaurant.co.uk to arrange this. General Manager
Our server at the Coal Shed was exceptional - attentive, American, funny but not intrusive. The food and restaurant were also great but we were basically jostled out at the end of dinner because our sitting was later and they were closing.
Thank you very much for the feedback We hope to see you soon back for another great experience. Gojart
Food was amazing but what really made the over all experience amazing was Martin who was looking after us, his service was super professional but informal and relaxed at the same time, excellent knowledge of the menu, really nice guy
Dear Lucy It is lovely to read about your experience with us. I will pass the message to Martin. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Kind regards Gojart
Beautiful view and amazing service. Would highly recommend
Dear Kim F I would like to thank you for the great description of our venue. I will pass the message to my team. I would love to see you again soon. Kind regards Gojart
Food, service and drinks were exceptional. Our waiter was friendly and attentive despite a busy restaurant. We had a steak, the lamb and the bream and all were beautifully cooked, highly recommend!
Second visit to this More London located restaurant. As a Monday night it was busier than expected. The overall experience was on a par with our first visit, which was a Sunday lunchtime, the food was marginally better, but unfortunately the wait staff left a little bit to be desired. They brought out the wrong starter, and then the main to the wrong table. That saying the food was good. Will be going back again I should imagine.
We went to The Coal Shed for dinner before going to The Bridge Theatre. We had the pre-theatre menu which was good value, served quickly and was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely meal.
Slightly disappointed that they'd run out of 3 dishes from the A la carte menu which I was eyeing up, but the roast was pretty good all round.
Both my partner and I visited the restaurant at the weekend and shared a 900g prime rib. Amazing food and service, very relaxed and friendly staff. We enjoyed it so much we revisited on Sunday for lunch sharing a 600g sirloin with vegetables and Yorkshire Pudding. Will definitely revisit and highly recommend.
Thoroughly enjoyed our sharing Sunday Roast after a stroll from The Globe to Tower Bridge. Excellent service and quality of food compensated for initial disappointment that oysters and chicken were not available. It was late on Sunday, however, and understandable that some items had run out. Will definitely visit again.
