Great food and wine
Good food and drinks and a great location by the Tower Bridge. However, service was slow at times and the staff were not attentive.
Extremely slow service, had to ask for another glass of wine from our bottle because they took it away, they had run out of roasts which is what we went for, waited ages to order and waited ages for our food even though the restaurant only had a few people in it
Great location by Tower Bridge on the South Bank. Great, attentive service without being annoying. Super food in a great atmosphere and at a good price. Would highly recommend.
This was a very lovely Sunday roast. We were an odd number and yet the kitchen kindly allowed us to order a sharing roast for two and for three (they're normally sold as for two). At £22.5 per head this is probably their best value for money menu option on a Sunday. The roast beef was undeniably excellent, and the potatoes roasted in beef fat were utterly delicious. Service was friendly with a sense of humour. Location is pretty cool as well. Near lots of other impressive restaurants and bars.
Just perfect service from start to finish and once again excellent food . Thank You
Was extremely smokey when Arriving at restaurant, think the ventilation in the kitchen may have been faulty or fat or something had been burnt?
Noise level was immense to the point that we could not hear the server talking, or with their review on the wines etc... and was so difficult to carry out general conversation. children shouting did not help!
It simply wasn't the normal relaxed dining experienced as in past, at this venue.
We thought our steaks were beautiful, cooked exactly to our liking. Between us we had broccoli, greens and chips which were perfect, I’m going to cook chilli and garlic respectively with the veg at home! The service was very good with the waiter realising that my drink wasn’t as I’d hoped and promptly getting it fixed for me! We’ll definitely recommend and will visit when we are next able.
Poor service, food alright but nothing extraordinary
Food was ok but felt it was massively over priced for what it was. My partners starter wasnt very hot. Had to purchase all the sides to go with our steaks, they dont come with anything. Have had better at our local miller and Carter. For over £100.00 for a starter and main for 2 I wouldn't return.
The service was very good, the food was just ok and the wine nothing to write about. All in all the evening was just ok.
What a wonderful find. The menu is varied and interesting and the food was truly exquisitely delicious. Staff were attentive, friendly, welcoming and thoughtful. It is situated very near the Thames and is ideal for a pre or post eveining meal if one is going to the Bridge Theatre.
One of my Local eateries I have enjoyed great Sunday service however Mid-week lunch service - went quite differently.
Ordered medium rare traditional hamburger- it arrived med-well done. Despite lunch menu stating burger comes with shoe string fries - burger arrives with undercooked VERY extra thick cut fries.
When asking the waiter what happened to shoe string fries - waiter response was -shrugged shoulders and it’s chef’s choice?
Asked for individual ketchup so that my guest had their own little pot was met with a sigh.
Inconsistent quality food - disregarding cooking preference (Med-rare) and waiter attitude combined with food arriving not as stated in menu meant that I regretted choosing Coal Shed for this business lunch.
Can only assume it was an off day ! I surly hope so as weekends are always excellent.
This was our second visit for Sunday lunch en famille and we were not disappointed. The service was attentive, the food excellent and the ambiance excellent.
An amazing meal, loved every bit of it and the steaks were amazing melt in your mouth
Excellent starters - we shared 5 and all of them were great. Lovely steaks and fish.
Only let down by the choice of desserts. We gave it a miss and went elsewhere for our last course. Wine choice was good and a lovely setting convenient to London Bridge station .
We had the sharing steak platter which was superb. Would have given the food 5 stars but for the fact that the rice in my rice dessert was very undercooked. The dessert menu could also do with more variety and a lighter dessert for diabetics and those on a diet. Otherwise it was a lovely dining experience.
Pre-theatre menu before Bridge - sort of a weird choice as I'd given up meat for Lent. Worked well though: the roast cauliflower with a sauce of a spicy nutty demeanor seriously good, and bream to follow super fresh and meaty. Service was if anything almost too enthusiastic, as server hovered behind fellow diner whisking plates away almost before forks were downed. Sitting on the far side meant noise wasn't too bad, though I've been in before when it's been hard to converse. Lots of choice around Tower Bridge now, but Coal Shed still up there.
Amazing food, amazing service! I would 100% come again.
Best steak in London, can't fault it for food or service. Love the Brighton restaurant too.
We had a lovely meal at the coal shed. Food was great and there was a lovely ambiance and feel to the place. Catered well for our 2 girls too! We will be returning!
Venue a little noisy
From when we sat down we found the service very lacking, it appeared that our waiter had far too many to many tables to look after, whilst the table of 2 next to us appeared to have their own manager looking after them. My order was totally wrong and I had to wait a good 10 mins before someone would approach our table, they asked my partner if his was ok and he mentioned that he would have liked to be asked at the start if he would like and sauce etc as he likes mustard with his steak, this was finally brought as he took his last mouthful. I was given a totally freshly cooked steak which was fine, but it would have been nice if we could have actually eaten together!
Great service, can't fault the staff but the food was average,
Noise level made it impossible to talk comfortably around the table. Hard surfaces + loud music + some very noisy customers meant DB level was up in yellow most of the meal.
Would only return for the good food if there was a quiet area for oldies!
all guests enjoyed - Menu was apart from normal - this was very appreciative
We had a fantastic birthday lunch with excellent food and service. I would recommend all day.
Sunday roast. It was ok. If you really LIKE a roast search carefully as nobody seems to do it very well now. If you want more general a la carte stuff or steak it’s more their thing.
Fantastic place for a family or group of friends to go for Sunday lunch.
The sharing roast beef platters were incredible.
The food was actually horrendous, not just my portion but also my partners. In terms of the place itself and the service, it is good. But when it comes to eating, over priced and does not match what you are paying for. Couldn’t even finish half of my food. Drinks were alright.
Went for Valentine’s Day and had a fantastic time. Food was exceptional
Fantastic evening at the Coal Shed. Outstanding service from the lovely staff and the steaks were certainly the best we’d ever had!! Highly recommend!!
Really attentive but not intrusive staff. Delicious food. Be prepared for a bit of a dent in your wallet though! Sharing steak was lovely.
The service in here on Sunday was absolutely shocking. We asked 4 times for horseradish (baring in mind this was for a roast dinner - I’m sure they have been asked plenty times before), the waitress was instead busy laughing with her colleague and we were totally ignored. Really disappointing after our experience in Brighton Coal - which was fantastic in every way.
Love the Sharing roasts - very tasty, well cooked, generous portions and hearty and warming! If you love beef (the only criticism would be that they only offer beef) then this is the perfect sharing roast. It's a relaxed, but upmarket vibe as well so not your typical pub but still very hearty! Also lovely dessert selection - we'd wholeheartedly recommend the cookie dessert, and they gave my boyfriend a lovely dessert plate (I took him here for his birthday!)
The basics were great - fantastic steak and good wine.
We felt the starters and sides let down the quality of the other ingredients. The broccoli and hispi cabbage sides were not of the same quality as the steak.
To me this restaurant was sold on quality and cooking of the steak and seafood plus chips. I have to say that the steak was a disappointment, no grid lines, smell or flavour of having been cooked over the “coals”. The turbot was slightly under and thus not great and the chips dry lacking any beef dripping taste.
Service good but overall a disappointment!
Amazing food & the service was exceptional. Would highly recommend. Onion rings are to die for!!!! Love it
Beautiful food with a lovely chilled vibe and attention to detail service. Recommend this restaurant to anyone.
