The Coal Shed London
Open seven days a week, the restaurant uses the highest quality ingredients, sourced as locally as possible. Try the 35-day aged sharing steaks or the South Coast sharing fish for a dining experience to remember.
The Coal Shed London, occupies two floors and a bar for pre and post dinner drinks and cocktails expertly crafted. If you want to host your own event, there is a private dining room on the mezzanine or the restaurant can be exclusively hired for any type of occasion.
Great dining experience, the food was very good and the service was excellent. I will definitely be returning.
Great food staff very friendly and good service
Food was nice but my main fish was tiny and vegetables were odd and not that nice. Meat main came unaccompanied which meant sides had to be ordered which seemed a bit stingy when spending £80 on steak for two.
Well, yes for the food and service but no for the noise levels.
Service and starters were outstanding, main courses 9/10, dessert 5/10. I would definitely go back tho and try another dessert.
We booked for 3 adults and our 2 young grandsons before going to a matinee at The Bridge Theatre. The staff were very welcoming and were very efficient and friendly throughout our meal. My wife said it was the best Sunday roast she had eaten in a restaurant and we appreciated the fact that children under 7 ate for free! Will definitely revisit.
Fantastic night out. Food was super starters, meat and desserts!! Will be back
Wonderful steak, great cocktails & wine list. The burnt ends mash was delicious! Highly recommended.
I'd spent quite a long time researching where to go for a birthday dinner and came across this restaurant - great location and menu so have it a shot. We went on a Saturday night, unfortunately they were really understaffed - there was only 2 of them that we could see upstairs and they spent most of their time with a party booking. This meant our drinks arrived after our starters and it took a long time for the food and bill to arrive. Considering that we all ordered the chateaubriand we expected more attentive service
Lovely food. Great atmosphere. Had a really relaxing time.
The service was terrible especially considering the prices. There was a very long wait for food and we had to chase up our meals twice. When they did come we were missing a side dish told another 2 minutes and finally received it when we had almost finished our meal. I wouldn’t normally but didn’t pay the service charge as there was no apologies for anything and even had chase up the bill. Just don’t expect that level of service when paying those prices. Unfortunately I would not recommend this restaurant. Two out of the party of four also had a bad stomach when we got home which just made the night even worse. Feel very hard done by after paying £50 ahead each. I would like to say the hosts were very friendly but probably only the plus out of our visit.
Expensive, overcooked steak that had been under a heat lamp too long. Slightly aggressive service. All in all disappointed.
This was my first time at The Coal Shed. The first was fantastic but the second was bitterly disappointing. Our roast dinner came out cold and it wasn't much warmer when it came out the second time. We asked for our beef to be medium rare, which it was when it first came out, but then it came back well done once we complained about cold food. The food itself was nice but it was still cold. Desert was on the house, which was nice of them, but it's a great shame it still cost us £70 for cold food. Despite enjoying The Coal Shed the first time I went, I won't be going back as a result of my latest visit.
Celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary we chose to dine at the Coal shed . We have been a few times before and have always loved our experience and food. The service first class with our server only being in her job three days, We had the Sunday Roast which was all cooked to perfection we then had dessert of the hot choc cookie and Expresso Martini everything we had we highly recommend,. At the start of our meal We went to order a bottle of wine when our waitress appeared with a bottle of bubbles saying this was to remain a secret as to who arranged this for us. On asking for our bill we were presented with a card ,,, it was from our son and daughter in law who had arranged the whole surprise with the Coal Shed. We can’t thank the staff enough who kept this secret and made our time even more special... We look forward to coming back soon. Thank You
The food was average, certainly not a good cost benefit given the prices charged. It was a busy day, so service was really slow and everything took a long time to come to the table (even water). I wouldn’t go back, neither recommend it. There are better restaurants for the same price point.
Charges premium price, but service and ingredients are average to low (e.g. mac n cheese didn’t have any cheese, only covering it).
More off the menu than on it. Cold food. Very disappointing
If we were her to open a restaurant, Gwen, would have to be our queen of front of house. Anyone can train to be very good in this industry, but to be exceptional, with a natural sixth sense for how it’s done, that’s innate and that’s Gwen. We arrived over an hour early on account of an unexpected escape from the office and arrived to the strange response of; “if we give you a table now then we need it back at 19:15/19:30 but you can sit at the bar.” I forget exactly the time but it was our original booked time of arrival. Of course we cheekily asked if we could simply switch to our booked table at that point. A very serious, ”I don’t think so but I’ll check” was the response. We just laughed it off and said don’t worry we’ll have a drink at the bar until our booked time. Obviously just another restaurant that can’t cope with anything different especially considering that the restaurant was half empty. The young lady was visibly relieved. Things made a turn for the better really quickly though. First, and rather impressively, one of the barmen overheard me say I must try the Purple Dress cocktail and to our amazement it appeared while hubby was deciding on his. Second, Gwen materialised shortly after to advise she had overheard our exchange and she apologised for the inconvenience but that she had made a few simple changes and we could make our way to our table at our leisure with no requirement to leave by a certain time. It was onwards and upwards from there. We enjoyed excellent champagne, food, wine and port all provided by very good service from servers all very discreetly and masterfully directed by Gwen’s keen professional eye. Not just in her subtle direction of the team but in her own uncanny ability to be everywhere she is needed to be all at once. Leading by example. We were in fact here to test whether coal would be a suitable venue for a special occasion in Brighton in April 2020. Our experience has ensured we will be making a reservation.
Fabulous starters, steak (Chateaubriand), sides and wine (French Malbec). And puds. And service.
The restaurant has a really nice vibe about it, relaxed and cool. The food was really nice, the wine even nicer and the staff were perfect.
I would definitely recommend to everyone, perfect place to go on a date, with friends or family.
We came for Sunday lunch sharing platter ! It was the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had - the cabbage side is a must ! We will definitely be back the staff were friendly and so attentive 10/10 x
We arrived early and were shown to a seat in the entrance, and offered a drink. The place was very busy so I would have expected to be given menus so that we could have decided what to eat before we sat down. We weren't - however, we were called to our table on time.
The place was very busy and we sat cheek by jowl with our fellow guests. It was very loud and very a little claustrophobic. Our orders were taken within about 5 minutes, but it took nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive - steak and chips. I thought they might be trying to catch the cow......
Food WAS superb, but you order a steak, you get nothing else, literally nothing else with it. A small side of chips is £4. The bill (bear in mind we only drank water, shared one side and had one dip each) was £67 (which included a 12% 'optional' service charge).
This restaurant looks good, the food is good, but service is bordering on average and the price is extortionate. There are several other restaurants close by serving similar fair, to the same standard, at a much reduced cost.
We would not recommend this restaurant and sadly, we will not visit it again.
Great food and service. fantastic evening and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal out
Food was great, service was a little slow in terms of asking you what you would like and for drinks.
The portions are small but the quality of food is great. I would definitely recommend two sides if getting the steak as 1 is not enough
Overall nice restaurant. Starters were very pricey for what you get. Ordered tiger prawns and received 2 single prawns for £9 would have expected a little more. Steak was delicious, sides were not anything special. When asked if there was anything wrong with a side that had barely been touched I advised what I did not like about it and was told that was just the way they did them. Fine, however no need to ask if there was something wrong if you are not willing to do anything about it. Service was quite slow, sitting in the corner did not help as we were not offered a second drink once during the meal after receiving the first upon ordering the food.
Came here on a Friday night. Bill came to £300 inc service for two. We had 4 glasses of champagne, a couple of oysters, an onion soup and pork belly starter; main course we shared a 1kg porterhouse with a chips and mash; a £58 bottle of red wine; two desserts and two espresso martini.
The food was excellent, particularly the beef and chips.
The service was inconsistent, two out of the three waiters (believe one was a senior waiter) were excellent. But one waiter, although friendly made a few annoying mistakes: he took away my empty wine glass, which was clean and I hadn’t yet poured a glass of wine, he didn’t even replace the glass, so it was very bizarre, I had to ask another waiter for a replacement; the senior waiter basked is to take our time to decide on dessert and there was no time issue, the not so good waiter then came to us and asked us the table needed was reserved and if we wanted dessert we’d have to eat at the bar, so we asked for the bill at this point, but then I think he was told to tell us we could stay as long as we wanted.
Food was great. Quality meat but long wait for food considering we ordered steaks!
Good enough for business lunch but nothing special. Nice location and quiet ambience.
Great food. Lovely look and feel. Staff are friendly, cheeky, chatty. - made our group dining experience more fun.
Booked the table after seeing the restaurant on Master Chef and we were not disappointed. Friendly helpful staff, lovely wine and very tasty food. Will definitely go back
Had a lovely afternoon at the restaurant. Did not feel rushed or anything. Waiter answered all our questions and gave good advice about the food.
Having seen the restaurant on Celebrity Masterchef we were looking forward to the meal. Unfortunately it did not deliver. The starter of scallops was delicious but after that it went downhill. Do not order Fish Stew unless you want pan fried fish with a small amount of saffron coloured sauce on the bottom of the bowl. The lamb loin was not pink and the side dish arrived when the meal was over so more like a desert.
The waiting staff seemed not to know their jobs apart from making sure the glasses were filled even if only a sip had been taken. When the bill came they had charged for two bottles of wine and we only had one.
It was a shame as it is in a great location but I am sure they can improve if the staff were better trained.
I was not impressed at all by the food and its presentation. I would not suggest it and would not be back
Not bad place. But sort of average and overpriced
Very poor food. Week kitchen had a refund for Two meals (stake meals) We had been in London for a week this was our last night big disappointment worst meal in London we used tripadvisor great reviews???? If it dose not improve it wont be there long the staff and manager were great the Kitchen needs to be changed your food must improve or you will be another closeer fast sorry I dont normally wright reviews but so angry. Michael
We arrived late yet they did their best to find us a table, food was excellent as usual.
Delicious meal enjoyed by all -will definitely return and recommend to friends
On the whole the food was good although one of the steaks was slightly cold. Service was good also.
Another great visit here, have never been able to fault the steak or the service! Discovered the hot cookie-style dessert this time...wow! A must try if you are here!
Only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was that the music was far too loud.
Lovely food, although not as complex as I was expecting and the chicken was quite cool. Staff great, if a bit slow
