We had a great time.
Love that the cover means most of the garden is in the shade.

The food was great but the service was very slow as there was only one chef in the kitchen. Other than that a great evening out.

Usually an amazing roast dinner here. Unfortunately on Sunday they were served luke warm and therefore within a couple of minutes of eating it was all cold. Pretty disappointing for £17 + per roast dinner

When I booked I asked for a quiet area due to it being our anniversary instead I had a table full of drunken women, to poor waiter asked them to leave at a certain time due to another booking and they refused!
Also the food was disgusting I ordered a burger but all I could taste was salt. Such a same as me and my partner went away for this weekend, I’m glad I don’t live locally.

Eating in the garden was socially distanced with good ambience. Really enjoyed the spiced cod cake. Staff really efficient and friendly.

Food was outstanding and great value for money.

Lots of safety measures in place including prompt table service and hand gel through out.

Would definitely recommend.

Stylish menu. Great choices from meat, to fish to vegetarian. Was there on a Monday lunchtime with a girlfriend so fairly quiet. Competitively priced. Commenced with a glass of Prosecco each.
Throughly enjoyed 2 courses from the set menu - both beautifully presented ... I started with the duck parfait with rocket & chutney ... all wonderful except could have done with some more bread chips! My friend enjoyed the fish cakes, poached egg & hollandaise sauce and was very impressed.
Our mains were ... mine - veal escalopes with wilted tender stemmed broccoli & chips in a little silver pot which were divine as wonderfully seasoned with salt, pepper and herbs (the best chips I have eaten in a long time!). My friend loved her fish risotto.
Overall I think probably a 9/10!

So much choice it was hard to decide.
My companion had the burger. Chefs surpassed themselves with the veal in peppercorn sauce - absolutely delicious.

The beer and wines were well kept and served

Our waitress was attentive. Intelligent and friendly faultless evening

The price was so reasonable. And all in all a fantastic dining experience.

I had been told that this was a good place to go for Sunday lunch. The four people in our party all agreed that The Cock is a very good place to eat at. The roast dinners (2 pork, 1 lamb) were very good indeed. The gnocchi was excellent. We all enjoyed our starters and the apple crumble was superb.

We will return.

Scallops were weirdest consistency. Jelly like. Never had a scallop like that before. Grit in veg for beef main dish. Usually better.

Excellent food, the second time round. Our veal dish was almost cold when it was served the first time. The good news is that the waitress whisked it away at once and we were very happy with the dish when it came.

We initially did not book a table and, upon arrival, we were quite abruptly told that "we are fully booked". We went in to the bar area for a drink and saw that we could book a table on Open Table for 5pm, just half an hour later. We did just that.

Upon entering the restaurant to take our table, we were escorted to the table by a waiter - but as were were sitting down, the waitress shouted over to us "but you haven't made a booking have you?" - she did this in front of all the other customers and without checking.

Overall, not a particularly warm welcome that I would have expected for customers and it could have easily been avoided.

Food was average overall. The scallops were well cooked, tender and not overdone but the fish and chips were not as good as the local fish and chip shop.

If it wasn't for the pettiness of the manager...

If it wasn't for the pettiness of the manager, the rating would have been an "Outstanding". and not a "Poor", the waitresses would have received a very big tip and everyone would have been happy.

The food was good, the service was good, the atmosphere was good - so what was the problem?

Lunch for four booked for 2:00pm. We arrived early, let the waitress know, went to the bar and had a few drinks. The table wasn't ready until 2:40pm, no big problem, we had a few more drinks - it might have been nice to have been offered a round on the house for keeping us waiting but hey-ho!

We sat down and ordered. Drinks first - a bottle of Malbec Goyenechea (£22.95) and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc Boundary Hut (£22.95), plus lunch and off the very nice waitress went.

Back two minutes later, she said they had run out of Goyenechea, so we ordered the Malbec Centenario Goyene Chea (£28.95), but said we wanted it at the same price as the Goyenechea. Off she went to consult with the manager. One minute later she came back, embarrassed, and said sorry and there was no room for negotiation… So we ordered a Côte du Rhône, which wasn’t at all bad.

Point is, we spent about £100 on food, £100 on drinks, plus tip so presumably a decent profit margin for the pub.

Question is, is the manager:
a. right
b. merely petty
c. mean
d. a fool?

Or am I:
a. being daft about it
b. expecting too much of people
c. right or wrong?

Answers on a postcard please!

Booked a table for two and specified in the notes that we have a baby with us.
When we arrived they couldn't accommodate us because they didn't read the note and just sent us away.

The Cock used to be good, but it has gone downhill. Service was reluctant, the restaurant felt like a dead space in an otherwise busy and noisy pub. Food was disappointing. Lacked flavour and seasoning.
