Outstanding food with so many different flavours and textures. Booked low seating and when we got there high seating had been reserved but we were moved fairly quickly. Drinks orders were not brought over and we had to go and get them ourselves but all of that actually added to the evening and the rustic charm.
Noise level is quite high as so many people in a fairly small space but did not detract.
Highly recommend and we will definitely go back.

Delicious food and great service! Only criticism is it was very cold in the restaurant and they needed to turn the heating up a bit (which they did when requested). I'll definitely be back though, as the food was amazing!

Lovely food and staff but service was very poor. We were served a drink after a 45 minute wait at the table. Food arrived before drinks and no one was around to give us water or the bill. Sadly that ruined our first visit.

Amazing food! Really lovely and helpful staff. Definitely recommend. The portion sizes are very generous so you don’t need as much tapas as you may originally think (our eyes were certainly bigger than our bellies!)

Sadly disappointed. The food was ok (although very sugary) but the music was so loud that a nice dinner with friends was ruined as no one could hear each other. At one point the DJ was doing a sound check which involved the music going from loud to incredibly loud on a number of occasions.

Absolutely the best place to grab Sri Lankan in Bristol. The staff were super friendly and they even threw in free bread and chick pea appetisers for free to help my friend and I feel welcome. I can’t wait to go back to Bristol to meet my friend so we can eat here again. The food was delicious, beautifully cooked and seasoned to perfection. Recommend eating here ASAP

This restaurant is definitely NOT totally genuine Sri Lankan. My wife was born there and spent 17 years in Sri Lanka and was very disappointed with the food. For instance the Hoppers, were very basic and the most famous, The String Hopper was non-existent. The sambol that should have accompanied ALL hoppers was very much absent. Sri Lankan sambol are very hot as are their curries. The chicken on the bone was devoid of flavour and I would say what chicken? as there was not a lot of it. There used to be a Sri Lankan restaurant in Bristol which was excellent and was a genuine Sri Lankan experience. There are certain ingredients which must be in all sambols, which is Maldivian Fish, we could not detact any. We have Sri Lankan cookery books and have made fabulous meals from this and have had to source the genuine article with regards to ingredients on line. There also should have been red rice accompanying our meals, but it certainly was not, we have the genuine red rice at home and what was served was definitely NOT red rice. Two sambols I will point out, the coconut sambol and the seeri sambol which were favourites of my wife when she lived in Sri Lanka and she said in no way were they true to Sri Lankan cuisine. Altogether a very disappointing experience which we shall not be repeating. We could have cooked much better and more genuine Sri Lankan food, than that we had at the Coconut Tree.

We had booked a table for 4 and arrived at 7:15pm in time for our reservation. We were taken quickly to our table and ordered our food and drinks together. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable of the menu and the restaurant itself was clean. Our table wasn't but we moved the glasses and tissues that had been left by the previous diner and eagerly awaited our food. After a 45 minute wait the waitress came over and said out of the 8 dishes we had ordered, 3 were now unavailable as they had run out of food. The waitress was really good and offered us a round of drinks for free, which then took 20 mins to arrive. We ordered three replacement dishes and our food started to slowly arrive. It was now 10pm and the replacement dishes hadn't arrived, so we decided to cut out loses short and leave. It seemed as though the restaurant was understaffed as the kitchen seemed incredibly busy (open kitchen design) and the waitresses were rushed off their feet. It was a real shame because the food that arrived was delicious, but the wait was incredibly long and half our food didn't arrive.

All the dishes were brought out at different times with the last one being nearly an hour after we ordered! Some members of the party had finished there meal 20 minutes before others even got there’s! Once we had finished there wasn’t anyone around to clear our plates or even ask to pay! Don’t know if it was a one off but the service was unbelievably slow, which I think was due to only 1 member of staff being front of house and the food being cooked so slowly!

In my experience (14th Feb.), clumsy and unavailable staff. One staff member spilled cocktail on my trousers; another spilled some dessert fat. Dry cleaning = c. £10. Five staff members behind bar during busy periods for diners, three taking selfies at one point. Food excellent. Let down by service.

Really good food - my date is gluten- and lactose-intolerant and it was easy to order, for once! We’d thoroughly recommend the hopper, coconut sambal, pumpkin curry, black pork and devilled chicken wings. Less crazy about the tuna curry and the okra but still tasty and cocktails great too! Overall good value. Service a bit lacklustre - we booked for 5.30, and had the table til 7, although don’t remember a time restriction being noted at the time of booking. The food took really quite a while and we were almost done anyway, so being asked to move at 6.55 wasn’t especially appreciated! Would go again, though.

We waited almost an hour for some of the worst food we have ever been served in a restaurant.
The Kootthus were cold, tasteless and greasy. The chicken curry on the bone was cold and very unpleasant. Devilled chicken wings were not remotely spicy and were cold. The tuna curry was the best dish, and that was no more than OK.
To be fair, they did not charge us for any of the food, but it was an awful meal and we won't be going back under any circumstances.

Nice conversion of the old Illusions on The Triangle to this Sri Lankan restaurant. Food very good (some dishes more than others) and portions generous. We went for the "Can't Choose" option so the chef chooses your dishes (tapas) for £20 pp. Cannot complain about the food, but the service needs improving:
1. Our table was not ready when we arrived even though we booked one (previous diners had left already)
2. Even though the chef was choosing our dishes, one of the waiters came to let us know that they couldn't give us 2 of the plates - which the chef had chosen so he should have just chosen again (better internal communication needed)
3. Food arrived more than an hour after we ordered it
The noise level is quite loud in here, so stay away if you do mind this, and my coat stank of fried food afterwards (not great!)
Overall though, it has really good potential, but it just needs a bit of perfecting

Menu very varied with lots of healthy traditional Sri Lankan food. The waiter Henry was friendly and talked us through the menu. The food itself was so tasty ! And big portions. It’s good to get a few things to share between you all. The music was quite loud so had to shout a bit to have a conversation but it was good music so not a big deal. Will definitely be returning !!

Six of us had a very enjoyable evening. Staring with well made cocktails and nibbles followed by the shared meal option which we would definitely recommend. Very enjoyable food, good atmosphere , friendly and helpful staff. As a new restaurant and the evening we were there there were few other customers. It deserves to be come well known and popular. A great addition to the local food scene.

Good but not anywhere near the atmosphere of the Cheltenham one which is mostly down to the fun and outgoing staff in the Cheltenham branch plus maybe the decor which is also more arty and fun. So disappointed in comparison but really good food as always- maybe it will improve with age!

I went for my birthday is December and it was absolutely fantastIc, so I made my girly mates come and try it.

It was ok.... our table was only ready for 4 even though we booked for 7... admittedly it only took 20 mins to sort but a little frustrating.

I just can’t quite put my finger on what was wrong nothing major, just forgotten drinks order, and perhaps service is just a little bit tooo laid back which makes me think mistakes happen..

Good really good although the menu has changed and some of my favourite dishes are just way too spicy (pineapple curry) although I was warned and I understand it’s my palette...
