Yummy food everything we had was great . I just wish you would do gluten free egg hoppers and open a restaurant in London!
Everything was good, just a bit slow to serve the food (around 40min) for the three of us. Except for that it was Excelent.
Lovely tapas style food, nice cocktails, dogs friendly. Good service.
Really enjoyed it!
Lovely place to eat and deceptively small as there are quite a few tables at the back. The food is freshly cooked. A joy to sample!! Loved it! 👍
Friendly staff here, pleasant rustic decor
Had a good cocktail, some different choices on the menu, and all the food we had was v good, decent sized portions
Cashew and pea curry, v good
Banana fritters and Sri lankan custard type pud, both v nice
Would def go back and recommend
This was a perfect place to take our student son and friend. Catered well for vegan/vegetarian and the small portions allowed for plenty of variety. Food was excellent, the cocktails not quite so exciting
Amazing food and brilliant service. Highly recommend the pancake and the goat stew!
This is a really nice, relaxed atmosphere restaurant. It is quite a lively place, ideal for people who like to try a little bit of everything on the menu and share their food "tapas style". The waiters are happy answer your questions about the menu, they give good suggestions and if you don't like very spicy food, you can request without. Book in advance, it is always busy.
We are regular visitors to the coconut tree, and choose to take my dad there for father’s day. But it was a bit of a shame food wasn’t as good as it normally is. There had been some foods taken off the menu, only leaving the choice of chicken. When we had previously had some amazing pork dishes and these have been removed. When asking staff if there was any chance of getting these we was just told no. The staff are normally up beat and friendly but on this occasion they wasn’t. Its not to say we won’t visit again but it won’t be for a while as it seemed to of lost its touch.
The atmosphere at The Coconut Tree was buzzy and jolly. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. I’m vegan so was very happy that there was lots for me to choose from . My 11 year old son who can be quite picky, tried lots of the dishes and loved them all! We came for Fathers Day and my husband enjoyed it too. Have recommended to my friends already.
First time visit for us and the place was busy. The staff explained how the menu worked and were very helpful for the entire visit. The food was great we will be back.
Really great food, a little spicy even the dishes where there is no spicy indicated. Dishes are very well priced but very filling. We were recommended 9 dishes between 3 of us which was too much. On the whole a great restaurant and I would definitely go again.
Good service, decent food, will be back soon
Excellent food and service, book in advance as it was very busy. Thoroughly recommend this establishment.
Tasty delicious food for sharing. Loads of veggie options and the pineapple curry was super tasty!
Food was tasty, service was pretty dire. .
Food was terrific and great value, especially for oxford. Service was a little slow, think they were a bit short staffed the day we went.
Interesting food, friendly waitstaff- highly recommend .
Really great food. Service can be a bit slow.. our mains came out before we got drinks and had to ask for water from 3 different people before we got it, despite that everything was good.
Can’t rate the food and staff highly enough. Made to feel welcome from the minute I walked through the door and left several hours later feeling full and very content.
If you’re looking for something different in Oxford, but want to be sure of great food and atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed.
Great food, great service, great price. But...the downside was we sat on the high stool table for 6. This was very uncomfortable. There was nowhere to place our feet so we felt we were gripping on to the table with our upper bodies! Painful. We were rammed in extremely tight next to the lower tables, this meant we were encroaching badly on other customers' personal space whenever we needed to move just an inch, which was frankly awkward and embarrassing. I couldn't take the lack of space and discomfort so I chose to stand for the entire second course. I brought it up with the staff who explained the management wanted to squeeze in as many covers as possible. Hmmm. Possibly a false economy?
I would go again for the food and service but would not accept a high stool table - not that 6 seater one at the back anyway.
Love the food and the staff is super nice but service is a bit hectic (when you order hoppers, it's nice when everyone get theirs at the same time and when the eggs are runny...) and the high chairs are extremely uncomfortable, even with the cushions.
Really tasty food and a bit different. Great veggie options.
An amazingly flavoursome meal - with a vegan friend, so we stuck to the exceptionally rich and varied vegan food (but plenty of meat and fish available). Will we go back? You bet!!
Really good food but let down by service as apparently two staff were off. Waited 30 mins just for drinks. Back room was very cramped and sweaty but once the food came we were happy. The staff were very pleasant and apologised for lack of them. Next time I will try and sit in the bar area but definitely go again.
Great food - excellent selection and fantastic flavours; Great service - drinks refilled promptly, food delivered quickly; Great ambience - informal, relaxed, place had a real buzz;
Great staff - friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Prices really reasonable.
Great, took the gf here as a surprise and was impressed. It’s a different experience compared to traditional dinning which o liked. I suggest you get about 3 dishes each and a starter. Bill was about £50. The staff are very attentive which makes a good change.
The food was great and well explained by the staff. Seemed authentic street food.
Lovely staff .
Fantastic! Great staff, service, ambience and most importantly the food was delicious.
Thoroughly recommend - go!!
Food was excellent again. Staff were a bit slow with drinks but overall it was a fab night out. We will definitely return
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a rustic comfortable pub dining room. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The Black Pork, Goat Curry & Cashew nuts were great. Service was well-timed and very friendly, the whole meal including drinks were affordable."
The food is amazing! I love the fact the dishes are small enough that you can order a few and share between you. You can then experience a whole range of deliciousness! The staff are really friendly, and the food arrived really quickly even though the restaurant was packed out. The cocktails are great, I’d recommend a Drunken Sri Lankan to start! This restaurant has amazing food in an informal environment - I would definitely recommend!
I am Sri Lankan, and this place did not disappoint. Authentic tasty food, good friendly service, and great ambiance
A great, buzzy atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and really tasty Sri Lankan street food. Great idea to have sharing dishes. We have eaten and travelled in Asia a great deal, including Sri Lanka, and the hoppers for example, were just as good as the ones we had in Sri Lanka itself. Definitely somewhere we will return to.
We visited Sri Lanka earlier in the year and the food was amazing. This place served up really authentic Sri Lankan food, in a simalr style where you have a few smaller dishes. The goat curry and pol sambol were especially good.
Really friendly staff decent drinks and reasonable price as well.
We were a party of around 10 with a reserved table. Despite the restaurant being already full, the staff were attentive and quick in taking our orders and bringing the excellent food (it arrives as soon as it is ready rather than in formal stater/main order, all the better for a large group). Hard to single out particular dishes as all are good, but do not miss the egg hoppers of course. My only issue is that the food could have been more spicy (or maybe they should have an extra spice option). Overall, a superb place for good, interesting food in a relaxed atmosphere.
we had to wait 20 minutes for the staff to come and take our order but we had to call them over. once ordered we waited 25 minutes for the food and then they brang the food over it was the wrong dish, i ordered the Vegan kotthu but they gave me the one with egg, i’m vegan, and then was told it’d take 2 minutes to have a replacement and waited a further 30 minutes, we ordered drinks as well at that time and reminded them numerous time that we had ordered drinks and they took longer than the food even though there was 6 staff and less then that of tables.
Tasty food, but we were not happy with the portions.
Fabulous food in a busy informal atmosphere and very personal, good service
Amazing food, great service. Would definitely go back.
