The Coconut Tree Oxford
Food was excellent again. Staff were a bit slow with drinks but overall it was a fab night out. We will definitely return
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a rustic comfortable pub dining room. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The Black Pork, Goat Curry & Cashew nuts were great. Service was well-timed and very friendly, the whole meal including drinks were affordable."
The food is amazing! I love the fact the dishes are small enough that you can order a few and share between you. You can then experience a whole range of deliciousness! The staff are really friendly, and the food arrived really quickly even though the restaurant was packed out. The cocktails are great, I’d recommend a Drunken Sri Lankan to start! This restaurant has amazing food in an informal environment - I would definitely recommend!
I am Sri Lankan, and this place did not disappoint. Authentic tasty food, good friendly service, and great ambiance
A great, buzzy atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and really tasty Sri Lankan street food. Great idea to have sharing dishes. We have eaten and travelled in Asia a great deal, including Sri Lanka, and the hoppers for example, were just as good as the ones we had in Sri Lanka itself. Definitely somewhere we will return to.
We visited Sri Lanka earlier in the year and the food was amazing. This place served up really authentic Sri Lankan food, in a simalr style where you have a few smaller dishes. The goat curry and pol sambol were especially good.
Really friendly staff decent drinks and reasonable price as well.
We were a party of around 10 with a reserved table. Despite the restaurant being already full, the staff were attentive and quick in taking our orders and bringing the excellent food (it arrives as soon as it is ready rather than in formal stater/main order, all the better for a large group). Hard to single out particular dishes as all are good, but do not miss the egg hoppers of course. My only issue is that the food could have been more spicy (or maybe they should have an extra spice option). Overall, a superb place for good, interesting food in a relaxed atmosphere.
we had to wait 20 minutes for the staff to come and take our order but we had to call them over. once ordered we waited 25 minutes for the food and then they brang the food over it was the wrong dish, i ordered the Vegan kotthu but they gave me the one with egg, i’m vegan, and then was told it’d take 2 minutes to have a replacement and waited a further 30 minutes, we ordered drinks as well at that time and reminded them numerous time that we had ordered drinks and they took longer than the food even though there was 6 staff and less then that of tables.
Tasty food, but we were not happy with the portions.
Fabulous food in a busy informal atmosphere and very personal, good service
Amazing food, great service. Would definitely go back.
They don't use free range eggs, which is disappointing.
The food was cold when it came out (but they were very obliging about replacing it). I just found it either way too spicy or else very bland.
The food is amazing. Think of it like Sri Lankan 'tapas', order a few dishes (and a hopper!) each and share. The service is great, very friendly and happy, it can obviously get a bit slower the busier the restaurant gets.
I would definitely recommend booking as it gets busy very quickly.
Absolutely fantastic play to eat! The Food leaves your taste buds in overdrive and is a great way to try a multitude of flavours! Wish we had a Coconut tree in Hereford as it’s just s great way to dine out!! The only negative was that my first two choices for starters were sold out but the third was still fantastic!!
Food was vibrant and delicious, the staff were lovely too!
The food was excellent and really good value for money. The staff were really friendly and informative! We will definitely go back!!
I was disappointed with the selection of meals for 20£. I think that you didn't choose the best ones. For example the cheese cubes weren't there. And it's a bit expensive. But it really tasty! Thanks!
Fabulous food for vegans in particular , our second visit did not disappoint
Delicious food, great service, fun atmosphere. Good place to bring a small group.
Great food and good service. Would recommend to friends. The only downside was the noise level it was hard to hear what friends were saying.
Amazing food, I particularly recommend the lady's fingers and cheese dishes. My favourite restaurant in Oxford! Lovely staff, great drinks too.
Good atmosphere, good food but one diners order messed up & all waited a very long time for the replacement meaning other diners in our party food went cold & we were all hungry while waiting. It should have been prioritised
Fabulous tasty food and not too pricy. Our table was well looked after and the staff were very friendly to all of our table of 12. Music was atmospheric and laid back. Cocktails were great value and had lots to choose from. Can't wait to return!
Great find.. 2nd visit. Loved the food and staff are great! They chose for us .. really good range of dishes! Good value!
The staff were all so lovely and helpful, explaining the menu - nothing was too much trouble
Fantastic . Excellent food and great atmosphere. Worth a visit
We booked on the day and were limited to an outside table which wasn't a problem but half an hour after arriving a group of very loud young men came through to the back yard with their beers which did detract from our experience. I don't think you can use a small outdoor area simultaneously as a beer garden and an outdoor eating area. Thankfully the group left after one or two drinks. The food definitely didn't disappoint and we will be back.
Great food, cocktails, staff and atmosphere.....sadly not a single bottle of white wine in the house!
Great choice of tapas style Sri Lankan dishes for sharing, veggies and vegans well catered for. Authentic enough to satisfy those who know Sri Lankan food, though the chilli level had been toned down a bit, which meant everyone could find dishes to their taste. Core things like dhal and roti done to perfection. Service was smiley and helpful, though they do get stretched as tables fill up.
The food was fabulous, the service fantastic and a really lovely relaxed atmosphere. We ate delicious plant based / vegan tapas style dishes and I can honestly say it was some of the best food I've ever eaten. Every single dish was made with care and was jam packed with flavour. I wish there was a Coconut Tree in Brighton!
The food was really tasty however the wait was very long for the food and we ordered more roti during our meal but it came 20 mins later after we had finished, it was taken off the bill however. Think they only had one chef that day, we would have ordered more but didn't want to wait for it.
Fantastic food that is really good value for money! Unfortunately our table wasn't ready when we wanted it to be, but I appreciate that they were very busy
Amazing food and service we really enjoyed our first trip to the coconut tree
Great venue with great food with excellent, friendly service. Will definitely revisit.
Really delicious Sri Lankan food served tapas style. We enjoyed a range of dishes - black pork belly, ochre, fried rice, and some Sri Lankan specials like mothu and hoppers. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, but above all warm and friendly. We particularly appreciated a warm, chatty welcome along with some great cocktails by Zak.
Great food, good atmosphere, prices very reasonable - will visit again
Lovely place but very busy, and food service came out at different times for our main meal dishes. Maybe understaffed for how busy it was.
Once we were seated we had to wait a while to receive menus, then it took them a little while to come over and take our order. Once we had though everything ran smoothly.
Really delicious food and friendly staff! It was a bit quiet when we first arrived at 7.30 but soon became busy with a nice ambience. Would recommend
Great opportunity to share food with friends
