We have honed in on precisely what the University City dining experience has been missing. Join us! Come hungry, come often, come together - The Common.
Possibly the best burger I've had in Philly, at par with Kensington Quarters.
Delicious fast pub food, warm polenta croutons ... who knew.,.
Dwayne was a super server! Very attentive and knowledgeable.
Best burger bar none
It is a great venue and the service was great. Two of our meals were good, the other 2 were not. I am willing to try it again.
They were closed for private party. Should have updated the app. Waste of time and money.
We went for a team holiday gathering and it was really nice - good service.
Food great and generous and nice setting. A little loud but we still were able to hear each other!
Went here on a Sunday for a “But First Brunch Event”. The ambiance was nice. The event wasn’t sold out so it wasn’t crowded. Food was good. My hubby had the breakfast burger which he enjoyed and I had eggs, potatoes and sausage. It was good nothing extraordinary. I’d go back again to give them a try and see if they had something better on the menu.
Amazing burger! Only complaint is waitress was wearing a dangling bracket that went in my food during delivery and she just ignored it. I tried to as well but ...
Was a great space to celebrate with my team.
The food wasn’t that great this time.
The restaurant helped celebrate a birthday. Our waiter was super nice and made great recommendations. Will definitely return.
The price of food was high compared to the serving size.
It was good, they didn't have many vegetarian options on the menu but I liked the soup.
I had been there before for lunch and was eagerly anticipating having the artichoke appetizer, but it was removed from the menu. Also, it was freezing in there as the restaurant was mostly empty.
My family and I were there on Saturday night and it was pretty empty and not too loud. Our server was very nice although he seemed somewhat new. The famous burger was very good but super rich. Tuna tartare was excellent as was the Caesar salad. My glass of Shiraz was excellent.
Menu has changed for the worse
This was a day party, not brunch. That would have been fine if it were: mentioned anywhere when making a reservation, the DJ was good, or there was an option to be seated somewhere I didn't have to scream or use hand signals to communicate. The food wasn't mediocre at best and forgettable. I don't believe for a second the burger I ordered won any kind of award. Our drinks came in disposable plastic 16 oz cups, including my champagne (no you're not getting 16 oz of a drink either - don't get excited). Apparently this is for the "bottle service" make your own mimosa. Again, if you're looking for a day party this may be your thing. We weren't nor was it indicated that's what we should expect.
Server was pleasant and attentive. He was new so he didn't know the menu well.
The artichoke appetizer was tasty and the mussels were really flavorful and tasted fresh.
My friend had the salmon which came with a corn salad. The dressing had a secondary rancid oil taste. A shame. My other friend had the chicken and was happy.
Music was a touch loud but we are middle aged so maybe it would be OK if we were youmger.
If you are in the neighborhood and need a place to eat, it isn't bad. But not worth going out of the way for.
I made a reservation for my birthday online for here for Sunday September 8th, to realize an hour before we were about to leave they are not even open on Sunday. Yes it is my fault for not looking at their hours but you shouldn't be able to make a reservation for a day they're not even open.
The vibe was amazing however the food was not that great. If your looking for a brunch time turn up this is the place to be. When it comes to the food stick to the basics
Awful experience. I had to chase the host and server down multiple times. They were chit chatting with the kitchen and not paying attention to our table. Will never bring a group back to this restaurant.
Went specifically for THE BURGER sand it was AMAZING.
Not a surprise it was just rated as best burger in Philly.
Also, split a Burrata appetizer - Best Burrata I have had in a long time. It was perfect.
Will go again for sure!
Worlds most average restaurant. Service was still slow despite it being mostly empty. Food was good enough but not inspired at all to return again.
Great service and the food was delicious! I’m surprised they weren’t more busy for a Saturday night but I didn’t mind!
We visited for lunch. several people had the burgers which looked incredible and were said to be excellent. Those who had salads were less impressed. I had the Smoked Salmon salad which was really more of an appetizer than a lunch meal. It was good but not really what I was expecting and the waiter made n attempt to warn that it was really not a good option. Also service was very slow and not very good. Price point was reasonable and the space is nice.
Staff did not know how to work the crowd. Waited a long time a no one cared. Can tell the staff was overwhelmed.
the burger was as good as advertised. we will return.
service was mediocre...as was the food...waitress forgot everything and had to ask a few times. food was just okay, nothing special
Sundays is a special occasion where lots of area young professionals of color gather to hear the DJ blast the jams. We enjoyed bottomless mimosas!
Went during Dining Days and ate from that menu. Chicken arrived inedible. Was quickly replaced with another dish from special menu. Asked for pepper from a different server and never got it. service slow despite only a few other diners there. Drinks very good. Our server was fantastic and got us a gift card for our issues without us even asking. Manager never came to the table. We will try it again, but probably for drinks and appetizers during happy hour.
We liked The Common so much we went for dinner two nights in a row. I had to have the Chocolate Mousse with Mango Sorbet one more time before we left Philadelphia. We also recommend the crispy artichoke appetizer. Everything we had was excellent!
Nice ambiance cool vibe. Only complaint was our waitress wasn’t the best .
I have been to the restaurant many times and enjoyed it until yesterday. I ordered a dish and specified no cheese. When delivered had cheese on top so i asked the server to redo. Unfortunately the chef just stirred the sauce so that the cheese melted. I know this was the case because I could taste the cheese when returned and then looked closely and saw the cheese which had not melted. The server was excellent and i was not charged for the meal but i also didn't have any lunch. Very disappointed.
I've had 2 meals at the Common and both dinners were very good. Given how easy it is to park in that part of University City, I'm a little baffled why it wasn't busier on either occasion. The prices are reasonable too. It's a really worthwhile spot.
Dessert! Pistachio cake with rosemary sorbet-delicious.
So far, I've loved everything I've eaten here. This was my first time trying the desserts, and they did not disappoint. Brought my friend with a difficult allergy (nightshades), and we had several options to pick from.
My only two disappointments are a) the chairs they have for outside seating are not comfortable for me, b) even though they have single stall restrooms, they are not gender neutral.
Great and varied food (not the same dishes you find elsewhere), friendly and knowledgeable servers, reasonable prices, pleasant and not too noisy ambience - what more could you ask for?
Food was very good. Service was average as food came out fairly quickly but then the waitress seemed to forget about us - no drink refills, took forever to get the check and had to bring the payment to the front desk to complete the payment process because it took so long. Nice place though and will go back.
The wait staff is always incredible here.
