Superb food beautifully presented by a highly accomplished and attentive staff---as one would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. The poached lobster was a bit undercooked, I thought--but the mélange of delicate flavors compensated. (The espresso cream reduction was deliciously unique.) The prices, I thought, were quite competitive for high-end restaurants in general. And the mark-up on the wines is not NEARLY as high as it is at other venues. HIGHLIGHT: I ordered a bottle of Tavel cote du rhone rose, which was listed on the menu as a 2017 vintage. The bottle our waiter presented was ---- a 2011. Wow. A nice surprise, and a great buy.
We shared 2 of the 3 course prefix menus with wine pairings. The food was absolutely delicious and the wines were wonderful. It was a really amazing deal for the price. Service was great as well. It is a beautiful cozy place and they even gave me a shawl to wear since it was chilly by the window. I will definitely return.
We came to Middleburg to celebrate my husbands birthday and to have a weekend away for the first time in a few years. We decided to pull out all the stops and treat ourselves to a nice meal. We had heard great reviews of Goodstone and made a reservation.
We were early to our reservation, greeted very kindly and taken to our table. The location is beautiful and got there around sunset so it was very nice. Our experience started to go south when we got our water. We asked how the water attendant was and she said “I am not your server” and walked off. We decided to focus on what menu we would do as we had been saving our appetites all day. We had been to a few fine dining experiences in the past so knew to be patient and have some questions for the server as they generally introduce the restaurant and themselves. Our server came and asked us what we were going to drink and since we were waiting to hear more about the experience said we hadn’t gotten there because we were wanting to chose the food. She walked off. Shortly after the sommelier came and answered a few of our questions about the menu and determined he’d come back after our server took our order.
10-15 minutes later our server came back but took the order of the table next to us and didn’t even check in on us. Both of our water glasses were empty and at this point had been there for 20-25 minutes with very little idea of what this experience was, who to talk with, and nothing to enjoy while we wait. We decided to leave the restaurant because we didn’t want to invest more time and money in a poor experience.
Lovely location for a special night out. Food was very creative and delicious. Service was exceptional.
A beautiful evening drive down an old country road, lined by hand stacked rock walls. A beautiful sunset for an early dinner. Quaint hotel bar with horse details. The conservatory was very open with few tables. Although seated in the corner, it was quite and private with good service; the sommelier pitched in to deliver courses. We had the Chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings, and a capacitor for dessert. Excellent food and the wine pairings were 3 oz pours (some a little generous) but were able to enjoy and the pace was good to keep up. Overall a bit over $500.
The dining room is spacious and quiet. The food was well prepared and presented. However, the service while polite was absent and inattentive. I had to go into the kitchen to find a waiter to bring the wine that I had ordered while my main course sat on the table cooling off. Another time I had to ask a bus boy to find the waiter. Since there was only one other party other than mine in the dining room, there is no excuse for this.
Great place for special occasions, particularly romantic ones.
Chef's Menu was superb! Oysters, Poached Lobster, Pheasant, etc. Every course was exceptional. Very attentive service. Beautiful room and view. Highly recommended!
A wonderful staff who were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was second to none, perfectly prepared in creative and delicious ways. A lovely atmosphere for a quiet dinner. We will be back!
The Conservatory at Goodstone renewed our faith in high end dining. We have been so disappointed in a few other places. The service was excellent. The food was perfect; looked and tasted excellent. Wine list was wonderful. We will be back!
I visited here for dinner last Friday night as my girlfriend and I were staying at the Salamander for the weekend and it was such a perfect dining experience. The ambiance is so charming from your arrival until you are seated, where you can enjoy the fireplace while looking up under the stars. The food was exceptional and we both did the tasting menus (veg & standard) plus the wine pairing. The service was absolutely phenomenal as our server Beth took extra great care of us and the knowledge and joie de vivre from the sommelier was one of a kind. I highly recommend dining here if you are wanting a romantic evening or a five-star gastronomic experience.
Beautiful setting, excellent food, extensive wine program, perfect for a special occasion or intimate dinner.
This is not only the best restaurant in Middleburg, but it's one of the best in the DC area! Excellent food. Wonderful, fresh ingredients. Great service. Beautiful dining room!
Always exceptional dining experience. We had the chefs tasting menu. The only issue we had was the portions were to big for us and we could not finish everything.
My boyfriend and I had the 6 course tasting menu. We arrived just after 6:30 and one of the first tables to be seated. Goodstone takes slow eating to an extreme. We were one of the last tables to leave at 10:30 pm. Courses were 30 minutes apart, and I think this was on purpose and not because the kitchen was too busy. All the other tables seemed to gotten the fixed price meal and were in and out. After a while, I was tired and a little bored (not a statement against my boyfriend but it’s a long time just to be sitting there). The waiter even noticed and apologized. Perhaps if it was a large group of people, this would have been acceptable timing. But for 2 people, 4 hours was extreme and I wish I had known before selecting the tasting menu.
Other than the timing, the meal was lovely. The wine list was extensive and I found the perfect wine for the evening. (At $110 a bottle, I tried to make it last through the evening, which was difficult at 4 hours).
The beet salad was a nice start. My favorite was the sunchoke soup and slow poached lobster. The flavors were amazing. The pheasant was good, but a little dry. Loved the croquette that accompanied the meal, wish there was more than one. The P’tit Basque cheese course was delicious. The apple cake for dessert was a little difficult to cut with a fork, and they had taken the knives away. (So it wasn’t melt in your mouth moist but good). I loved the little extra chocolates they gave at the end. It was delicious! So was the oyster at the beginning.
I struggled with the rating as the whole timing made the evening drag on and the food seemed underwhelming towards the end. Perhaps a warning that the tasting menu would take so long would have changed our minds.
The staff makes this the best! Also wonderful food and exceptional wine options.
Well worth it for special occasions!
Excellence all the way around !!
From the greeting at the front door to the " good night" hours later... From the hostess to the manger, to our servers...excellence. Everyone is sincere and authentic in their demeanor. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience, and we all have high standards. The food, drink, dessert was phenomenal. Thank you to all at the Goodstone Inn .
Wonderful food and service, excellent choice for a special occasion.
Excellent meal in the beautiful Conservatory! Perfect presentation and outstanding service. Special place!
The wait staff was helpful and attentive. Food was delicious and the chef prepared something special for those with birthdays in our party. It was a special and magical evening. Still talking about it fondly after several days! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Amazing service, best wine list in between Washington, VA and Washington, DC. Food good but Michelin level.
The setting was lovely but the food was dated in its style and served luke warm.
This is a top of the line restaurant, but you pay for it!
Vegetarian tasting menu was amazing. Plus the additional treats not listed on menu. Prepared and presented to perfection. Only complaint was the pace at times was a bit slow. From seating to check signing was over 3 hours on a Friday evening.
The Goodstone Inn is in a lovely spot, but the food was merely ok for the price point. The service was good, but again not what would be expected at the level to which the restaurant aspires. I am a well travelled foodie and have no problem paying for expensive meals, the Conservatory at Goodstone Inn is simply not worth the price.
Outstanding dining experience. The food was exceptional. Perfect preparation and excellent presentation. I had asked for a special request which they carried out perfectly. Outstanding service. We will be back! Awesome venue as well!
It took us 2 hours to receive our main dish. The service was slow and we were never given a reason why. Mandy guests dining at the same time as us were very frustrated with the length of time it was taking between each course.
The food was good, it didn’t wow me enough for the price tag though. The ambience was great and we love the location. We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and they did add a little special “Happy Anniversary” chocolate to our dessert which was a sweet touch.
Overall, I wouldn’t return and spend that kind of money for dinner. I prefer The Red Fox Inn.
We had dinner at the Conservatory to celebrate our anniversary and the evening was perfect. The service from Bonnie was excellent and the food delicious, I had the cod and my wife ate the pheasant - both were outstanding.Steven, the sommelier was extremely knowledgable and charming.WE will definitely be returning.
Fantastic Anniversary weekend at Goodstone capped off by 5 star dinner with exceptional service. Already planning to return next year
It is expensive but a perfect dining experience!!!
Exceeded my expectations.
Can’t wait to go there again.
The Conservatory was absolutely incredible. I took my fiancé for our anniversary and Goodstone did not disappoint. We were met with incredible smiles, and our waitress made our time incredibly special by her warm and calm nature. Our food was superb and I could not praise this place enough. It was absolutely spectacular. We will be coming back for many more anniversaries to come!
Fantastic service and wonderful meals for both my wife and I. Compliments to the chef creating wonderful combinations for us to enjoy. We will definitely be returning.
This is a fantastic dining experience! The Conservatory is the perfect setting and boasts a very strong chef who puts together a fantastic menu. The food was perfectly prepared and the presentation was artful. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating. The wine selection is extensive, and they are very helpful in pairing the wines to your tastes. The Goodstone far exceeded our expectations and we are planning a return visit for sure!
