The Copper Clam
We have a private dining area and cater for large groups and parties.
This is a great seafood restaurant which also serves a really good steak, so it works well for us as a family. Some delicious scallop starters an interesting specials selection and some very tasty main courses.
I had the Cataplana which is a seafood stew with chorizo - excellent. My husband had the half grilled lobster with salad. The salad was simply a large bunch of watercress which he doesn't like, so perhaps could have been a bit more imaginative. My daughter had the seafood platter for one, which at £30 seemed pretty good value. She enjoyed all the components, except for the pregnant prawns which were a bit of a struggle. My son had a very excellent steak and chips, also served with a bunch of watercress which he doesn't like!
All of the seafood platters came with oysters, which I know is something of a house speciality, but if you're not keen on oysters it does rather limit your choice of seafood.
We tried three of the desserts, all excellent and very nice coffee.
It is currently our favourite place to eat. The upstairs tables in the windows are lovely, with a great view of all the action on the seafront. We were surprised that it was relatively quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, but that was good for us.
The outdoor sitting was great to keep us warm and dry despite the rain. The service was good but unfortunately a fight broke in the kitchen and all the yelling was unpleasant and unprofessional. The food was ok but the price point was too high for the food served.
All the food and the service was superb. We sat outside as we had our dog with us. Very dog friendly.
great little spot, good quality great service would recommend
The staff know about their food drink. Very pleasant, smiling and extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend the restaurant and would definitely go back.
Had scallops as starter & Ribeye as main. Omg it was so tasty & wish all restaurant food was that delicious. Would eat there every weekend if I lived in Brighton.
Was absolutely perfect! Had the best time the food was gorgeous, would highly recommend for anyone that loves seafood! Staff were all lovely and really brilliant
Great food on the beach, remember to book to have a great experience.
Fantastic welcome, service and food. All the service staff were attentive, friendly and funny, while not encroaching on what was a top quality lunch. I will defiantly be returning.
Very good sharing platter !
We waited a long time for our order and then half of it didn’t arrive. It appeared to have been forgotten by our waiter.
Great time there, as always!
Food was great, service was great, overall, it was great!
Delightful in every aspect! Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were so warm and friendly.
Omg!!! Went to this place as recommended to us and what a treat! Would recommend without hesitation. A must visit for any foodies or anyone who wants an amazing dining experience
Great food and fantastic service. All very reasonably priced with a nice choice of daily specials. I would highly recommend the Copper Clam
We had the Lobster Thermidor 🦞 seafood platter, it was fabulous, best lobster we have ever had. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed.
The tempura lobster tail was amazing. Moules were plump and in a delicious sauce.
Party of 8
Food was outstanding
This was my second visit in the last 18 months and again was just amazing!
Fantastic food, staff and the bill was a little more than most of the seafront but absolutely worth it.
See you again soon
Birthday and wedding anniversary
Good location but unfortunately the food was terribly disappointing.
Our first Boys Lunch meeting since the easing of lockdown and could not have been held at a better place, the staff were exceptional, from the booking to the actual day was faultless, as was the food, Scallops to start with a superb Cataplana for main, a perfect balance of smoky Paprika & Chorizo with a rich tomato sauce loaded with fish and prawns.
Coffee and brandy outside in the drizzle but it dampened nothing, I only hope our hubbub was not too loud :)
Had the most fantastic meal last night. Lovely fresh lobster 🦞 delicious steak and fantastic service.
Definitely be back when we’re next on Brighton
Expensive restaurant and poor quality of the food. We paid 20£ for only to carabineros just to set an example
I had the shellfish platter which was a few frozen prawns, a lobster claw and some tiny frozen langoustines. The avocado salad was just half an avocado plonked on top - there were a few leaves underneath. Everything was wet and on one metal plate. The 3 oysters were good but at £30 it was not good value. Disappointing.
We had a wonderful meal at the Copper Clam recently. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and approachable. We enjoyed chatting with Kay too. The only disappointment was the lack of cheese on the evening we were there. We will definitely return and tell others too.
Loud restaurent but to be expected on the seafront, a lady did walk in to the restaurant to steal a ball from the shop next door but no one stopped her from walking in without a table. Staff were overall friendly but the waiter did forget to ask for our drinks at first and we were waiting a long time to get the bill and had to ask for the bill a second time. Starters and oysters were amazing, mains weren't as good as the starters, they were nice and fish is fresh but lacked a certain wow factor. Also when the waiter asked what sides I'd like he didn't know what to recommend, and as I was unfamiliar with the portion sizes I didn't know whether to order sides or not so would be nice to have recommendations in future.
Whilst the servers were nice and engaging, their attentiveness was really poor. The food was average (and expensive) and portion sizes stingy which was disappointing. One of the dishes was unbelievably salty and not pleasant. We had to ask for the bill 4 times, but accept it was a busy hot day.
Very nice overalll, staff really lovely though service bit slow as they were so busy. The chairs were not comfortable for someone like me with a sore back. They but too hard. But we would come again.
Sorry to say but it was pretty shocking. First of the oysters came out Luke warm and rather on a tray of crushed ice, they came out on wilted lettuce leaves. We sent these back and had some more sent out but I couldn’t stomach them after the first batch.
Then my partner’s lobster came which was stone cold; we sent this back and overheard the chef wanted to reheat! My partner had half of my steak instead.
One the staff seemed drunk as well. Just a very bizarre experience and wouldn’t go back. The place was meant to be fully booked yet it was half full for the entire time we were there.
Very expensive for what it is. £300 with tip for 4 people having 2.5 courses.
Won’t be coming back.
Such a shame, we turned up and there was no crab on the menu , quarter of the menu is crab. Poor planning on the management side of things. We ordered food that didn't even come out to our table.
(the waitress though that she was doing us a favour by taking those off our bill?)
My partner ordered food and 20 minutes later we were also told that they didn't have it. One of the steakls came out rare when it was asked for to be well done, the steamed chilli broccoli was just broccoli.
The location is great but with so much competition on the seafront it wouldn't surprise me if this restaurant doesn't survive with service such as the above . A real shame for our first meal out since December.
The service and food was very good we will be returning
Shown to our table early which was a nice gesture then we were looked after by the delightful Beth happy knowledgeable and catered to our needs beautifully the rib starter is nothing short of spectacular and also had grills lobster with crab fries we already have 2 more visits booked so see you soon and thanks for a lovely afternoon
Beautiful fresh food. Very friendly service. A great experience.
This was the first real summery weekend and the place was packed, turning people away. We only had the table to 2 hours, which the restaurant informed us of when we sat down, but in no way did we ever feel rushed.
The wait staff were exceptional and friendly and took the business in their stride. All the food came out in a timely fashion and they were attentive at refilling drinks etc.
My friend came down from London for the day and this place certainly helped her understand what a great place Brighton and Hove are!
Thanks Copper Clam - I will be back and bringing more friends.
The food was amazing and so was the service!
Overcooked fish bland sauce, no Tatar sauce and a waiter who struggled boning a lemon sole
Disappointed that we couldn’t get a cocktail since there was no bartender working who could do that. Food was good, but seemed a little overpriced.
Great location and wonderful staff as always. Sea fish platter wasn’t up to the normal high standard -didn’t seem as fresh as usual although staff assured me it was. Maybe I was just unlucky. Notwithstanding this it’s a great venue with a terrific menu and I’ll be returning again. Highly recommended.
We were served by a lovely lady and nothing was too much trouble for her. The starters of spicy prawns, crab Caesar and moules were lovely although the moules could have been better with a little bread. The lobster roll was not great, overcooked and bread was stale. The mains were all excellent and the sweet potato wedges were amazing. They had run out of a few things though.
