We are so close to the beach you can practically feel the sand between your toes as you tuck in, and the breathtaking panoramic view of the beach and surf is equal to any. The Cracking Crab can be whatever you want it to be; fun for the whole family (including the dog), a hot spot for breakfast, a leisurely lunch watching the surf, a resting place for a cup of tea after a walk along the coast path or an awesome place to watch the sun setting over sundowners before supper. Please book for dinner and keep an eye on seasonal opening time,
A really lovely return trip to the Cracking CrAb. A warm welcome, friendly staff, good service , and menu choices. Food nicely cooked and presented , with no delays. We will be back!
Down for a week in polzeath again... we decided to eat out at the cracking crab ,it's setting is superb, sky ,sea, and surf !all that was missing was the sun !!,but that's Cornwall for you .its decor is relaxed colour full and friendly .we had popcorn shrimps to start ,then a casulet of scallops beans and chorizo, for me ,hake for him. The food is good but not cheap ,we had a great meal then walked down the cliff path back to polzeath beach . Will go again 😊
We celebrated a Birthday dinner here and absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back. We parked on the beach - free after 4pm and followed the signs along the coastal path, a 5 minute walk and flat. The Cracking Crab has a fun, laid back feel and the decor reminded us of a recent trip to San Francisco with all the crab shacks. The food was excellent and plenty of it, the service was just right too, sometimes we’ve felt rushed but not here it was perfect timing. This is our new favourite, go if you can.
Took two friends out for a treat not knowing what to expect. Poor start as had to pay £4 to park, greeted well and surprised by the decor, which is a glorified cafe and
sat in uncomfortable chairs and ordered drinks which were extortionate but looked forward to our meals. This was also a great disappointment, although tasted nice but meagre portions for the price, especially as we shared a small dish of vegetables for four. My dessert was a chocolate orange cheese cake with alcohol in a tiny glass jar priced £6.95, this was merely a biscuit base with whipped cream of no flavour topped with Chocolate sauce. The prices are Al A Carte without the experience, we are locals and we'll never go back again as we felt totally ripped off.
Cracking!! Location amazing and menu very tasty. Slight wait on service for deserts but well worth it - patience needed.
Great restaurant, wonderful locatation with view of Polzeath beach, really good food and service
It was extremely busy and very noisy. Service was much slower than usual, although the staff were their usual friendly selves.
I went to the Cracking Crab twice during the Easter holidays. Both times I had my two children (5 and 8) with me. The first visit was just me and them and the second time I also had two friends with me. The setting is just beautiful. We sat right next to the window on our first visit and saw the sun go down. On our second visit we were in one of the booths but still could see the view of the beach very well. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and make my children and I feel very welcome. We try and book the earliest table we can for dinner when we have the kids with us to avoid tiredness (the children!) and enhance the experience for all of us. I have also been lucky enough to go sans children with my husband on a few occasions and have had some lovely, intimate dinners at table number 1! I love seafood and wine and both are very good here. Can't wait to go back in the summer!
Unfortunately this wasn't the best experience we have had. Having eaten here on a few occasions we thought it would be nice to take some friends but truthfully none of us were overly impressed.
The food was very disappointing and the price tag was the same as Rick Steins seafood restaurant which was beyond superior in every way! My husband had to return his plate of soggy duck fat (supposedly a duck curry) which was replaced but by which time his appetite was gone.
The menu was overpriced and we won't be rushing back which is a real shame as the venue is amazing.
We had a lovely evening celebrating my birthday. We have been here before and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The staff are always super friendly too. The lobster was as good as last time.
Good food and helpful service. Drawback is having to park elsewhere and walk (muddy) to the restaurant. Varied menu. Lots of families when we went (7.30). Not the biggest issue but for a romantic evening you would probably want to go later. Overall great though.
Expensive for what it is & no vegan choice. Tiny tiny vegetable portions but did get more when asked. Menu hasn’t changed since last year but seems more expensive & smaller portions. But a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff.
Great food, relaxed easy going atmosphere and the most wonderful view!
Fresh sea food but expensive.
Prawn and crab cocktail had very little sauce making it dry. Starter of bubble and squeak, Smoked haddock and egg was hugely disappointing. The haddock was flakes within the bubble and squeak and could hardly be tasted. In this dish usually you would expect a piece of fish.
Price came to same as rick steins fish restaurant lunch - no comparison.
We have visited this restaurant many times and have always had great food and great fun. Unfortunately we visited on the last Saturday before they close for the winter season.
The food was poor the service was dreadful and I definitely would tell anyone reading this review NOT to visit on the last day of the season. It was such a disappointment. I did speak with the manager quietly about how I felt and he wasn't remotely interested and I was just brushed aside. I guess not being his restaurant he doesn't have to care about losing customers!
Excellent seafood, fantastic service and really good value. Best restaurant in the area.
Great location by day with stunning views, by night needs to be full to create the ambiance. Food fantastic with a friendly casual service.
Food was not too bad , but the service was very slow when we were there.
Our tenth dinner visit this year to this remarkable restaurant. The food is at least the equal of many better known, self- publicising, table crowded Cornish restaurants ,some of whom, ludicrously, seem to hold themselves in some sort of hushed awe, with the expectation that you should consider yourself privileged to be allowed to be there ! This restaurant is a delightful, thoughtful, unassuming contrast, and a delight in every way. The service is lovely - young, energetic, charming, attentive without intrusion and wonderful with young children. The location is unequalled - a cliff siding with uninterrupted panoramic views over Polzeath beach and National Trust cliffs, farm and headland. The atmosphere, unusually for most restaurants, is one of happiness, and is mercifully free from the tiresome, loud , self promoting clientele that infests so many. Children love this place , so go early if you like the sound of children's laughter, and a bit later if you want a more sedate atmosphere . Either way, this restaurant is wonderful - in every way.
In the middle of October, five of us had a fantastic meal after walking from Trebarwith Strand on the SWCP. As the sun set we sat outside with a bottle of rose & watched the surfers and dog walkers. It was warm and the sky was the loveliest shade of salmon pink; we could not believe our luck. Service was really tremendous (fast, anticipatory & charming), food excellent and when we walked home they even threw in skyful of stars. We enjoyed a similar experience at the Winking Prawn on another leg of the SWCP. Not to be missed.
A great restaurant, fantastic food, and fabulous views over Polzeath beach and National Trust headland. Very family friendly and completely lacking the self important pretentiousness and table crowding that sadly affects so many Cornwall restaurants these days. Great care has been taken with layout, and the service is very efficient, and very charming. This restaurant is a must if you are in Cornwall.
Food was good but not exceptional; price of menu in restaurant was higher than that shown on line; position/views exceptional and service was excellent.
In our opinion best fish restaurant in Cornwall, always the first place we eat when we stay in Polzeath and always the restaurant of our choice for our last meal before leaving
Great food , great views over polzeath beach and the staff were very friendly.
Wonderful seafood in fantastic location. Very good and friendly service.
Really pleased to have found the Cracking Crab, our new favourite place to eat in Polzeath... great food, with lots of choices, lovely staff and a fantastic position right by the sea.
The food was close to being excellent for uncomplicated dishes. My starter was not what was described; and no charge made: but my wife's was excellent. My main was good, but the hake slightly over cooked. My wife's modules very good. But these are not testing the chefs skills too seriously. Happily return. But also happy to go elsewhere
Great location, with wonderful views over Polzeath beach and out to sea. Great fun - buzzy atmosphere and there's even a dressing up box for you to try!
Food excellent. Great selection if you're a seafood fan; and why would you choose to go to The Cracking Crab if you aren't?
Loved the monk fish, and popcorn shrimp moorish as ever.
We'll be back whenever we're back in North Cornwall
We loved it, the girls loved it, the food was great, the service was fab, the view is outstanding, highly recommended.
We stayed at Tristram camp site and booked a table at the Cracking Crab as it was our wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed at all. The table we were given had amazing views and there was a wonderful sunset that night that could be seen from inside. The food was first class, I had a seafood stack of crab, salmon and prawns and my husband had haddock bubble and squeek with poached egg which he said was delicious. Our main course was lobster and chicken in tarragon. They were served with an amazing salad, vegetables and chips respectively. The waiting staff were very friendly and polite, with a good sense of humour. Thank you to all the staff, we had the best meal ever and it really made a wonderful end to our anniversary day. We will certainly come back again and I would highly recommend. Equally, it's a great place to visit at lunchtime or to just sit during the day for a quick snack and a drink.
We enjoyed our meal very much. We had to sit at the high tables which was not very comfortable, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We did not have children with us but I was impressed with the playthings and space provided for them.
Fourth time of eating here over a two year period. The quality of the food and the service is excellent. Would recommend to all especially if you are a seafood lover xx
We had a great family meal here, great service. Thank you.
Hi, had a great meal here.
Had the prawn cocktail with crab followed by the best and biggest Dover sole ever.
We've always had a great time here for lunch and dinner. Unfortunately this year it was extremely disappointing. We had to wait a long time for our pre booked table, the food took far too long, steak had to sent back as totally overdone, then the wait for another was ridiculous meanwhile the waitress was very rude, one of our favourite prawn dishes was also very overcooked. Very disappointing and unprofessional staff for somewhere serving city prices. It has certainly put us off now sadly.
Delicious food, great outlook!
We ordered 3 different fish dishes as mains and thoroughly enjoyed them!
The Cracking Crab is a great find. The staff were superb, the food excellent and atmosphere vibrant. Heartily recommend.
Lovely table overlooking the sea, food not so great! Black sand in mussels and long black wiry hair in Monkfish!! Won't be returning.
Loved this place. Exceptional food, service and ambience
Good fish restaurant with well cooked generous portions. Very friendly service . The only thing I did't like was that it was very noisy, probably because there were no soft furnishings to absorb the noise. Otherwise an excellent venue.
