Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Most of our dinner was tasty. However, our burrata appetizer was not like any I have ever seen. It was smoked, which may have been the reason that it wasn’t soft in the middle. The texture was more like feta. The main problem, other than constantly pounding bass from the sound system, was that I was not allowed to order a dish that I wanted, because I had reported a completely different food allergy. Then, every time the servers brought a dish, including salad and bread, they would announce, “This is the allergen meal.” Quite annoying! Thankfully, my harissa chicken salad with hummus was very good.

It was our second visit, this time the food was equal to our previous except the tartare was not as good as we remembered before. Otherwise our only other criticism was that no one at any stage checked/poured our bottle of wine which we were surprised about. Apart from the above, we loved our experience and will return again Xx

We had a really lovely flat iron steak which was £16. Great price ! We ordered 3 sides; cheesy broccoli and cauliflower, spinach and asparagus flavoured in garlic and creamy mash. All the sides were gorgeous !! Although we did have to send 2 back as they were not warm enough. The next lot was piping hot. Service was really fast and we had a lovely waiter.
