The food was excellent. There was confusing over the bottle of wine we order and the service was slow. But, the server was very gracious. Beautiful grounds to walk around.
Excellent ambiance, service and cuisine. Outstanding dining experience in every way!
Excellent service, nice ambiance, very small portions.
Beautiful place! Excellent service. Went for brunch everyone was happy with their meal.
We went to dinner, expecting a great meal. I ordered the tasting menu, and my husband ordered a la carte. We were not thrilled with the food. It’s as though the new chef is trying to make each dish so fancy that they lose focus of what has been ordered. For example, my husband’s foie gras was surrounded by barely ripe figs and sauce with just a tiny piece of foie. His agnolotti entree order was tiny. My scallop Crudo had so much garnish and spices that I could not taste the fresh scallop (yes, just one) at all.
No longer worth the cost.
In two words, our dining experience was VERY DISAPPOINTING. While the initial level of service was appropriate for a high level restaurant, service rapidly declined after our appetizers were served. Our entrees arrived but the mushroom side ordered to accompany our main courses did not. When I pointed this out I was told that the side would be coming; it did, after we completed eating our entrees. I sent the mushrooms back. When the entrees arrived we asked for a glass of wine for my wife and a Martini for me. My wife’s wine arrived; my Martini did not. After waiting a considerable period of time, I advised one of the four service people involved in our dinner to cancel the Martini. (This was very much a “Who’s on first” scenario.) We were then asked by another server if we would like coffee or desert. Based on our poor experience to that point, I declined both and asked for our check. Another server came to our table while we were waiting for our check stating that the Martini was prepared and asked if I would like it delivered to our room. We were not staying at the Inn; we are locals.
This should NOT occur at a Relais Chateau establishment. I had hoped the the Mayflower Inn was returning to its past level of dining excellence; unfortunately, it still has a long way to go!
Best burger and fries I have ever had! And the breads exceptional as well. Waitstaff, especially Matt and Jeff, top notch.
We have been going to the Mayflower Inn for special occasions for over 20 years. Our most recent visit will be our last. It’s was over 40 minutes between our starter and entree. I asked where our food was twice and the second time was told it was being plated. Ten minutes later the food showed up and my rack of lamb appeared grayish in color and was very tough and rubbery on the outside and rare in the center. Clearly something went wrong and I expressed my disappointment with the meal and did not eat it. The waiter had no explanation for what happened to our food and was not concerned with our dissatisfaction or offered to substitute something else. When one is paying what they charge for the portions they serve, the service and quality should match the prices.
This is a refined and nice place for a friendly dinner. The room is quiet enough for conversation, the ambiance is very pleasant and the staff was friendly, efficient and not overpowering. Three of us had a duck appetizer which was outstanding and one person had a beet salad which was very nice. For entrees three of us had a lobster risotto and one had rack of lamb. The rack of lamb was nicely done and well presented. The lobster risotto consisted of the body and tail of a lobster out of the shell on top of the risotto. Unfortunately the risotto was basically tasteless and could not be recommended.
They are trying hard and the place is much improved from what it was under former ownership. At this price level there is nearby competition to which they do not quite measure up. Perhaps we will try again and see if a different entree will allow us to upgrade our review.
For those who knew the old Mayflower Inn, it has returned to its previous status...beautiful setting, outstanding service, excellent food item selections tastefully prepared. For those who have yet to experience the Mayflower, it is clearly time to go!
I was very happy with our choice to celebrate my 50th brithday at the Mayflower Inn. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the gardens. A really very special setting. It was a gorgeous evening. The service was impeccable and friendly. The food was delicious. Of course, it is expensive and portions are not huge, but as you expect for fine dining experience and it was plenty for us. It was SO beautiful and serene that I don't want to save visits for only special occasions and will plan on coming by more often to have drinks and appetizers on deck, in the cozy bar or on the side veranda. I am happy we live close enough to come more often. It would be a great place to meet a friend for a drink and some conversation, even if you don't have time or budget for a full meal.
It was a party of 2 and the service was extremely slow. We had a 7:30 reservation and were done with our meal at10:15.
Outstanding in every way. We experienced the Mayflower Inn of old. Great setting, outstanding food and professional/attentive service. The menu includes a wide variety of offerings which should meet the food choices of most.
Beautiful place to go for a special occasion. Grounds are lovely. Very attentive service. Pricey but worth it.
For the second time, we have had a confirmed reservation in the Dining Room (confirmed both via Open Table AND confirmation calls from the Mayflower Inn & Spa), only to be told upon arrival that we are in the Tap Room, which has a different bar menu and does not overlook the Mayflower's beautiful gardens. The first time (Thanksgiving), I let this slide. This past Sunday (Mothers' Day), however, I said something to the hostess. She was very unapologetic, saying that the Mayflower is presently "down a Reservationist...[such that] there have been many kinks." She told me that I should have known that my 10:00 a.m. seating time would be in the the Tap Room (how, I am not sure, as I spoke directly with someone at the Mayflower to confirm my 10:00 a.m. Mothers' Day brunch reservation IN THE DINING ROOM), because "Holiday brunches do not begin seating until 11:00." For many years, every person at the Mayflower could be relied upon to provide unparalleled levels of service. Everyone went above and beyond. Within the past year or two, this seems to have changed drastically for the worse. I hope I am wrong, as the Mayflower has forever been one of my and my family's favorite grand old country inns, which are seemingly becoming rare in the U.S.
I booked A table for lunch on Easter Sunday. It turned out to be a price fixed partial buffet which wasn’t mentioned when I booked. They tried to seat us right near the buffet which would have been very unpleasant. We were then, not very nicely given another table, very small and very uncomfortable wooden chairs next to a family with very unruly children, many children I might say.
The food was mediocre at best and not at all worth $125 per person before tax, tip and there wasn’t even a glass of Champagne included.
Best French toast I’ve ever had. Service was also stellar but it was pricey.
Frankie is fantastic!
We like this restaurant very much but are never sure if a great dining experience will be followed by a poor one. Not certain if there have been management changes and/or chef changes but we have had both great and poor experiences. We are hoping that the Mayflower is on an upward trajectory which it can maintain going forward.
The food has improved considerably since Auberge Resorts, the new owners, took over the Inn. My Dover sole was excellent.
Superior in every aspect. Exquisite menu, exceptional presentation, knowledgeable waitstaff and perfect timing between courses. Simply elegant dining room. The only criticism we had, was an over anxious young man who before anyone had a chance to taste their food was asking everyone how it was... This happened after each of our 3 courses... We all found it somewhat
annoying. If he had just let some time pass between the delivery of the plate and his approaching to ask - I’m certain I would have given an outstanding star for service.
We look forward to returning.
We booked last minute to celebrate a birthday! We got the beat seat in the house with an amazing view of the garden. Service was impeccable, wine was fab, the fish sandwich was a bit short on the fish.
Anniversary. Every other couple offered champagne and we weren’t. A bit disappointing
This is a beautiful place. “Gracious” is the word . The service is impeccable, comfortable, friendly, and welcoming. The food is good, well prepared and nicely presented. If you are looking for creative cuisine, this is not the place, but there is something very satisfying in an an excellent meal, perfectly prepared and presented , offered with care, within a soothing ambience.
My best friend of 20 years and I were in town for the Gilmore Girls Fan Festival. The Grace Mayflower Inn was an inspiration for the show and was where the show’s writer penned part of the first season. We couldn’t imagine a better place to wrap up our trip than with a delicious brunch in the setting where the show began. The food was delicious, the dining room and entire property were beautiful, and the waiters and inn staff couldn’t have been nicer. We were encouraged to take as many pictures as we liked, and they even treated us to a box of fresh pastries to go!
We had an amazing dining experience at the Grace Mayflower! What a wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary! We felt so special!
Upscale, and worth the price. My wife was very happy, so I'm happy.
Service very good. Ambiance nice. Meal nothing special for the prices.
Such a wonderful experience. Have been multiple times and will be going back soon.
Food and service was impressive
The beautiful setting, graciously appointed dining room, and friendliness of the personnel make you want to forget the shortcomings of this lovely venue. But, a high end restaurant such as the Grace Mayflower should remember to serve every course (they forgot our starter), cook the food to the temperature requested, and check regularly on the needs of the customer. Those things did not happen during our visit. This restaurant has many pleasures and we'll probably return. But, if you plan to go you may not have the perfect experience you'd expect from a restaurant this expensive.
Overall, we had a good dining experience. This was not our first time at the Mayflower and we have seen peaks and valleys over a number of years as it has changed ownership/management. On this occasion the service was attentive but seemed to lack experience. When our salads were delivered and we said yes to ground pepper, the waiter applied the pepper to my salad first and then to my wife’s salad. Perhaps this is an “old school” concern but in the fine dining/upscale restaurants that we frequent, this is the norm and something I expect. I ordered the $52 ribeye “rare plus or the rare side of medium rare”. The steak I received was on the well side of medium well. I clearly could have returned it but it would have disrupted the flow of dinner as my wife’s entree had arrived and was fully acceptable to her. The salads and wild mushroom sides were exceptional and the “wines by the glass”, which followed very well prepared mixed drinks, provided a very nice selection.
Bottom line: we will return but I will be more prescriptive when ordering and will discreetly assure that my wife is given priority by the waiters.
Wonderful anniversary dinner on the patio.
My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Mayflower. Food was delicious and the service was impecable. We felt very welcomed and well taken care of. Thanks for a great evening. Will be returning very soon.
We sat on the outside terrace under an umbrella, enjoying the lovely garden and a relaxed delicious Saturday lunch. The melon gazpacho and lobster roll were the stars.... but we also enjoyed the avocado toast and the impossible burger! Nice food presentation and excellent service.
Superb in every way: excellent food, excellent service, breathtaking view. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion, such as our anniversary.
We love going to the. Mayflower. This time we tried brunch, as we wanted to see the garden. Sadly the garden was disappointing, hedges needed trimming, roses hadn’t bloomed yet. Brunch was nice, but quite expensive for basically a menu you could get most anywhere. The coat per couple was $168 including a 20T gratuity for eggs Benedict, a cocktail and wine for the table. Our waiter, Brian was excellent, very attentive and professional, as well as a great sense of humor.
As longtime patrons of the Mayflower Inn, we were exceptionally pleased with the our entire dining experience. The Grace group has returned the restaurant to its original outstanding level of ambiance, service and quality of food. I highly recommend this New England jewel.
Great food, drinks and service. Gorgeous place to spend a special occasion. All of our meals were excellent and a great wine list! Cant wait to head back to sit on back porch over looking the beautiful gardens.
Peter was the best waiter - he was very attentive to details. The service as a whole was outstanding from all the staff.
