We had the special offer 3 courses and a glass of champagne for £29 and it was great value. But better options than one often finds for special offers.
I have been going to the Don for many years and it never fails to please.
The service was really excellent and we had a great evening. Many thanks to the staff for being so considerate to a bunch of rather loud- we were only laughing- women celebrating my retirement.
The food here is good and the setting nice however it is a tad annoying to have 5 different waiting staff serve you, with the same person incapable of doing more than their one thing, ie bringing you to the table, bringing you wine, taking your food order, bringing you food etc. It is also annoying that our wine was kept 10ft from us and we were not trusted to pour it ourselves (and it was assumed we wanted the same amount from the bottle). Would it kill to ask people where they would like the bottle to be left? Other than that it was good.
Lovely restaurant set back from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Good food and excellent wine
Will be back
Good choice, great price with set menu, enjoyable meal
Overall the food was very good. The only tiny bug was the profiteroles were a little dry and hard. The wine was excellent. The dining room is spacious and tables are not packed together so you don't feel that you are listening to other diners conversations. Staff were attentive and when asked to slow service as we were in no particular hurry they did so. They were charming. Would recommend the Don highly.
Lovely food and a good atmosphere. The set menu was very good value.
Absolutely delicious food as well as kind and friendly staff. Highly recommended for quiet and intimate Friday evening dinner
Another great lunch at The Don, the staff are delightful, professional but friendly. The dishes are always beautifully prepared and presented, you can even get decent wine at a very reasonable price at this City gem.
The Don is a great high quality restaurant tucked away in the City, going on expenses would be great but for those of us now paying from our own pocket there's a good selection of reasonably priced dishes and wine. The staff are charming and the service excellent. The dishes are confidently prepared and presented; I am careful about recommending somewhere but this place is a very good bet.
Great location. Great food. Lovely art.
excellent lunch. Really good food; well spaced tables; pricing is sensible.
Service is welcoming.
Great food, great service, great location
What more can I say
We had the Christmas meal which at £47 was not cheap but the food was good without be exceptional. Lamb was really good though. What annoyed me was that the restaurant was 60% full during the meal and yet we were rushed - food came way too quickly and they even took away my wine glass before I had finished it. When you end up paying £90+ per head, this level of service is not acceptable.
The food here was really good, the portions are small but it is of a high standard. The wine selection is great and has many affordable options as well as specialty wines.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived and no other customers appeared for about an hour. This caused the staff to be rather over-attentive, filling water glasses after every sip, watching for us to finish our dishes and flying out the next courses. There was also no music playing so we could be heard quite clearly across the room. It was just a bit awkward.
By the end of our meal, when the restaurant had become busier, the atmosphere improved immensely and the staff's manner was a lot more comfortable.
Food was great. Perfect execution. The chef should be proud. However her or she should know that up front people are frustrated. The Service was non existent. Took 40 min to serve drinks. We poured our own wine. Waitress did not speak english and could not even put the bread on the plate.
Great place to have quiet conversation.
Very good for a “City” venue. Good food & wine, polite & professional service. Importantly one can hear oneself speak!!
The Don is a classic spot for a smart business meal and if you haven’t been, you should try it.
Inconsistent food spiked by strange service. Salmon tartar and chicken were excellent. Scallops and monkfish both over cooked and dry. Service was simply strange!
Very, very good brunch. The food really is delicious and the atmosphere and service are also excellent. The hostess happily moved us to a better table. Couldn’t recommend enough.
The staff were very welcoming. The food good value and tasty.
The Don Restaurant is good for business catch up - good food and private enough to have a conversation
Excellent service and fabulous food. The wine waiter was very knowledgeable and we took his advice and tried the Austrian white wine. Perfect for our meal. Definitely visiting The Don again. Particularly if they continue to offer the two/three courses for £21/24 menu option.
We had been recommended The Don and it did not disappoint. The highlight was the service. The waiting staff were very experienced and had in depth knowledge of both food and drink. Our Gluten free friend was really well accommodated, the chef even made a creme brûlée just for her. Tucked away it was a nice quiet option for a Friday evening in the city
Frederick Forster's food has always been amazing, I have been to The Don twice and can't complain. Unfortunately on the second visit which was in the evening the waiters seemed to be distracted despite there only being four bookings and the bathroom facilities were not up to scratch. I waited 10 minutes to retrieve my coat from the make shift cloak room and then had to go behind and get it myself.
I would go again but not for an evening meal as the service was not up to standard
Good food and service - nothing overly special but it works. starters are overpriced.
We enjoyed Good service , great food and and lovely wine during our business lunch at the Don. .
Quite quiet. Small portions. Had been my favourite place for a long time, but needs to be a bit snappier in my opinion.
Good food, friendly and efficient service, nice rooms, well spaced tables. Special August 50% grouse deal excellent value ! Very well cooked and presented and succulent. We enjoyed the grouse earlier in the month and 'foodie' guests from out of town were suitably impressed. Not what they they expected in the City.
Location of venue is good and so as the food value. Very suitable for business meal and value for money.
Excellent as ever - never disappoints. Food was seasonal and very good
Excellent value lunch - main course, mineral water and coffee for less than £20 a head, thanks to the "50% off food" offer. Dining room was full but not noisy, and the halibut was excellent.
Another business dinner at the Don and another excellent meal.Service as attaentive as ever and the food was excellent. Fish is always extremely good here and I enjoyed the Halibut as did my guests.
Delicious food, meat cooked to perfection. Professional yet friendly service. Will definitely return.
Very nice evening with good food, attentive service and pretty good value thanks to a "half price on food" offer that we benefited from.
Service great, staff courteous, fantastic Artworks on the wall by the great John Hoyland. It's worth a visit!
Extraordinarily noisy for such a small restaurant - could have been due to an after drinks after work collection of bankers loudly enjoying themselves but the concrete echo chamber ceiling doesn't help. Perhaps they had a waiter call in sick but the service was long on flamboyance and very short on delivery.
The Don is generally a lovely restaurant l, pricey but with attentive service. But this time wasn't as good as previous experiences with some part of the starter forgotten and difficulty attracting the serving staff's attention when we needed it. Also, the portion sizes are not thought through. For example in the starters I had a good slab of terrine but my wife had four small, very thin slices of tuna carpaccio. They could have given her four times as much and it would still have been on the miserly side.
Three of us enjoyed a very good mid week dinner at the Don. The service, from all the staff, was very attentive, friendly and professional.
We chose the £29 3 course menu, which included a glass of champagne. The wine list was extensive and offered something for most budgets.
All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious- I especially enjoyed lamb nicoise and a truly excellent creme brûlée. If I had a slight complaint with the food, I would say the portions were slightly mean (but then I am used to Scottish portions!)
Great and tasty food and service very attentive. Friendly and efficient staff. Would recommend.
Great place for business lunch, good food and ambience.
