The Don Restaurant
The Don is famed throughout the City for its multi-award winning wine list- a perfect complement to its modern menu and highly professional service.
Due to Coronavirus warnings we knew there had been cancellations. The restaurant wasn’t full and I’m really pleased that my guest and I decided not to cancel. The staff thanked us for coming and impressively the menus were being wiped. My guest and I both
agreed we had a lovely time. And of course the food and service was great.
Angelo and Nicoletta were our servers for a late afternoon lunch. They were attentive without being obsequious. The wine that was recommended, a Brillo 2016 Chianti, was excellent, and the two dishes, salmon and risotto, were cooked to perfection. I would not hesitate to return to The Don when we are next in London.
Great food, not a lot in the local area so that's a plus, was a bit miffed to be greeted with "still or sparkling" - tap please. Come on, this 2020.
I really like this place - although it is a bit of a city boys haven I suspect. Great service. Nice (very filling) food and good wine on offer. A hidden gem.
Good restaurant off St Swithin's Lane. Christmas menu on offer. Not cheap but good quality.
Good food in pleasant surroundings. Set menu has good choice . Noisy with large tables before Christmas but quieter at other times.
I found this place in the app as an option to eat something nice in Bank area and the experience was great. The food and the service are fantastic, this is a hidden gem restaurant. Everybody there is really friendly and always willing to make you feel good!
One of my favourite place for a city lunch above ground! Really thoughtful & good menu with attentive service. Not cheap by any means - extensive wine list.
Service was nothing like what you would usually expect at lunchtimes.
Classic in the City. Good food, decent wine list, classy yet efficient, best cheese trolley in town!
Good food and a lovely waiter from Puglia in Italy provided great service, got a bit noisy when a large party of men came in, bit of a shame really.
Great meal and atmosphere. Good selection and reasonably priced when using the set meal
Had a lovely evening at The Don on 4th October. Food was excellent and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Dined on the £29 menu with a glass of Tattinger - delicious and would recommend.
Thanks for a lovely evening.
Great food poor service
First time at The Don and extremely impressed - great food on the very affordable set menu. Excellent service and a nice atmosphere. It is a bit of a City bloke place downstairs and the toilets are not great but generally speaking we really liked it and will be back.
We loved the courtyard entrance and the history of the building given its connection with Sandeman's. The set menu had a good choice of dishes and everyone was pleased with the quality and taste of every dish ordered. Good wine list. Great strong coffee.
Always reliable and great prices for the City. Highly recommended.
We had the special offer 3 courses and a glass of champagne for £29 and it was great value. But better options than one often finds for special offers.
I have been going to the Don for many years and it never fails to please.
The service was really excellent and we had a great evening. Many thanks to the staff for being so considerate to a bunch of rather loud- we were only laughing- women celebrating my retirement.
The food here is good and the setting nice however it is a tad annoying to have 5 different waiting staff serve you, with the same person incapable of doing more than their one thing, ie bringing you to the table, bringing you wine, taking your food order, bringing you food etc. It is also annoying that our wine was kept 10ft from us and we were not trusted to pour it ourselves (and it was assumed we wanted the same amount from the bottle). Would it kill to ask people where they would like the bottle to be left? Other than that it was good.
Lovely restaurant set back from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Good food and excellent wine
Will be back
Good choice, great price with set menu, enjoyable meal
Overall the food was very good. The only tiny bug was the profiteroles were a little dry and hard. The wine was excellent. The dining room is spacious and tables are not packed together so you don't feel that you are listening to other diners conversations. Staff were attentive and when asked to slow service as we were in no particular hurry they did so. They were charming. Would recommend the Don highly.
Lovely food and a good atmosphere. The set menu was very good value.
Absolutely delicious food as well as kind and friendly staff. Highly recommended for quiet and intimate Friday evening dinner
Another great lunch at The Don, the staff are delightful, professional but friendly. The dishes are always beautifully prepared and presented, you can even get decent wine at a very reasonable price at this City gem.
The Don is a great high quality restaurant tucked away in the City, going on expenses would be great but for those of us now paying from our own pocket there's a good selection of reasonably priced dishes and wine. The staff are charming and the service excellent. The dishes are confidently prepared and presented; I am careful about recommending somewhere but this place is a very good bet.
Great location. Great food. Lovely art.
excellent lunch. Really good food; well spaced tables; pricing is sensible.
Service is welcoming.
Great food, great service, great location
What more can I say
We had the Christmas meal which at £47 was not cheap but the food was good without be exceptional. Lamb was really good though. What annoyed me was that the restaurant was 60% full during the meal and yet we were rushed - food came way too quickly and they even took away my wine glass before I had finished it. When you end up paying £90+ per head, this level of service is not acceptable.
The food here was really good, the portions are small but it is of a high standard. The wine selection is great and has many affordable options as well as specialty wines.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived and no other customers appeared for about an hour. This caused the staff to be rather over-attentive, filling water glasses after every sip, watching for us to finish our dishes and flying out the next courses. There was also no music playing so we could be heard quite clearly across the room. It was just a bit awkward.
By the end of our meal, when the restaurant had become busier, the atmosphere improved immensely and the staff's manner was a lot more comfortable.
Food was great. Perfect execution. The chef should be proud. However her or she should know that up front people are frustrated. The Service was non existent. Took 40 min to serve drinks. We poured our own wine. Waitress did not speak english and could not even put the bread on the plate.
Great place to have quiet conversation.
Very good for a “City” venue. Good food & wine, polite & professional service. Importantly one can hear oneself speak!!
The Don is a classic spot for a smart business meal and if you haven’t been, you should try it.
Inconsistent food spiked by strange service. Salmon tartar and chicken were excellent. Scallops and monkfish both over cooked and dry. Service was simply strange!
Very, very good brunch. The food really is delicious and the atmosphere and service are also excellent. The hostess happily moved us to a better table. Couldn’t recommend enough.
The staff were very welcoming. The food good value and tasty.
The Don Restaurant is good for business catch up - good food and private enough to have a conversation
Excellent service and fabulous food. The wine waiter was very knowledgeable and we took his advice and tried the Austrian white wine. Perfect for our meal. Definitely visiting The Don again. Particularly if they continue to offer the two/three courses for £21/24 menu option.
We had been recommended The Don and it did not disappoint. The highlight was the service. The waiting staff were very experienced and had in depth knowledge of both food and drink. Our Gluten free friend was really well accommodated, the chef even made a creme brûlée just for her. Tucked away it was a nice quiet option for a Friday evening in the city
