The Dorian is an ode to a bygone era, a modern day parlor for the bohemians, libertines and free thinkers among us. A place where Oscar Wilde might have dropped in for a drink or Jerry Thomas would have tended bar. Offering fresh provisions and fine whiskey, The Dorian is the quintessential destination to enjoy good times for good times sake.
Our menu draws from San Francisco’s rich culinary history, taking the liberty to explore and re-invent nostalgic favorites and concoct new dishes alike. Our beverage program treads a bohemian path, borrowing from the past and dreaming up new ways to have fun through libations. We couple this with an extensive list of over 120 whiskeys.
Due to SF Covid 19 mandate, we are open for outdoor dining, take-out, and delivery only. We encourage reservations, but also welcome walk-up diners.

Imaginative, super creative variations on classic dishes. Awesome friendly service!
Despite placing a reservation well in advance, we still had to wait to get seated. Our server then took a great deal of time to greet us. He denied alcohol service to my date, despite her having multiple forms of identification. Worst experience I’ve ever had in the Marina.
We were seated on a very dirty and uncomfortable couch inside right near the kitchen (this is with reservations). The waiter never came back to even take our drink order. Also, our main appetizer was delivered to the wrong table and we never recieved it. In addtion, the server charged me for a check that was not even ours and 3x the amount as my check. It was a really horrible experience. It felt gross on that couch, we could not order drinks, and had to wait 20 mins to get the billing issue resolved. Overall, a very messy and horrible experience. Never coming back.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and decor. The food took a long time to be served but it was good and tasty. Booth seats around tables need to be upgraded they were very uncomfortable. Friendly staff.
Well we showed up with two reservations, but the hostess told us that we'd have a table shortly, yet that wasn't the case. I worked in the service industry so I understand how it goes, but the lack of transparency wasn't good. Then the moved one part of my party to the side of the building, which they don't use during the week, and the hostess neglected to tell anyone we were over there. We finally flagged a server down and he seemed very annoyed to help us, so they had the bartender come and help us - which he was awesome! Overall it was an underwhelming experience, which is a bummer because I love the Dorian. I will cut them some slack because of the pandemic, but that was bad from the hostess and the first server.
We arrived about 15 min ahead of our reservation time and they sat us right away! Great good and service, would recommend.
Celebrated my birthday here. Wait staff was exceptional and made it special. Was very accommodating by giving us a bigger table as several of my friends had children.
Out of Chardonnay
Out of tacos
Burrito arrived cold
Table without heater
Waiter nowhere to be found
Waiter sees homeless man leave a plate of old pizza next to our table and just leaves it there. Whole experience was extremely disappointing. Best part of the Nael was leaving.
We were the only table in the restaurant without heaters, and they didn’t have several menu items available
The GM Ryan was super helpful, accommodating and hospitable! Great meal and drinks and the outdoor set up is amazing!
Great food and great location. It is my 3rd time going and I really like the place. Their truffle fries are TO DIE FOR! I highly recommend them. Only downfall was our waiter left for the day and we were not aware of it as he never told us his shift had ended...he just disappeared
Very disappointed with the service at this restaurant. Took a very long time for a server to come to our table. And, when she arrived she just asked if we were ready to order. We received more attention from the food runner. On top of all of that the food was meh.
Everything was excellent except the host. She didn't want to be there.
Great drinks. Food is below-average and they should either stick to being a bar or get better food
Server Louis was great! Nice table on Chestnut under the heater. Hostess? She nearly spit at us when we checked in, as if we were creating an undue burden on her by asking for a table under a heater. Her eyeball rolling, exasperation, and “I have other customers” was worthy of never returning. But Louis was amazing and food decent. So worth another shot maybe.
The Dorian is a great place for a social get together, enjoy their famous breakfast cocktails, and menu tends to be vibrant. This felt like an off day, even with us respecting masking guidelines order requests (e.g. how eggs were requested) being missed, lack of water/coffee refill options... With all that, we will absolutely be back because restaurants are absolutely juggling their best, the food is good and with a hat of patience vs. what we might have expected say Feb 2020, it is worth coming to. Here is to supporting places we like so they can stay in business so we can keep enjoying them.
Dorian is our favorite! Best drinks, best service, and really tasty food. Their outdoor setup is probably the best I've seen in the city
Cold on their outdoor eating; no space with sun
Dining in SF outdoors always gonna be a hit/miss experience with respect to temperature. Nice to be out, and love that they’ve found a way to accommodate so many people in a socially distanced way. But damn. That seat by the door was chilly in a typically mid-50s evening in SF. Find a seat by a heater, if you can.
It was great!
Great Valentines date here. We got a great table with the view of the Bay and a great server! The oysters were super fresh and yummy, and the truffle fries with the homemade sauces were to die for! Very fresh and fluffy. Also tried the ahi tacos which were okay and the flat bread with hummus was okay as well. Deviled eggs were good as well. I got to the espresso martini for the first time and i enjoyed it! Will def be back and thank u Dorian for such a great outing!!
The waiter was nice and you could tell he was working hard; however, it looked like he had too many tables to take care of for just himself and was overwhelmed. He would forget things, take a long time to come back, and charged us the wrong amount after we looked at the bill and gave out credit card.
The food quality was very disappointing. For the cost, it was definitely not worth it. The breakfast burrito was cold and the rice was undercooked. It’s called the “Billionaire’s Bacon Breakfast Burrito” and had only a few 1x1cm pieces of bacon throughout the whole burrito. The potatoes it came with were also bland and burned, not crispy, just burned. The crab cake Benedict came with only 1 crab cake and 1 egg, over 2 pieces of very stale, chewy toast. Beneath the Benedict was pieces of grape fruit and a random mix of raw herbs like mint, cilantro, basil, etc. The Benedict should of came with more for it’s cost. The overall flavor of the Benedict was good, but the quality and amount was poor.
I would not come back here for brunch again. Their drinks are good though.
We were seated at a far table away from everyone else by the mail box. It was as nice as where the other couples were being seated. The food was good though
It was great
Not a fan of this place. The waiter seemed to forget about us and my table waited for 45 min before we got our food. I remember even asking where our food was when they “checked in” with us to see if we needed anything... no just our main entree would be great. My steak frites was a plate of fries with just a small piece of meat. Basically a dinner of fries. The deviled eggs was just one half of the egg for $2.50. Not even the other half of the egg! I don’t understand how this place is highly rated...
Food was OK, but for the price I expected more. The service was good and the vibe was good.
Dope neighborhood joint w GREAT drinks, including frośe for those warmer days.
Excellent food, drink and an awesome view down Filmore exposing the Bay.
Great brunch! Loved the crabcake Benedict. Honestly I only knew the Dorian for drinks so I was really impressed by the food too. I can’t believe I’d never eaten here before. Can’t wait to come back once dining reopens!
Great ambiance, excellent drinks. Wonderful food. Their parklets are amazing. Would dine again!
Very covid safe! Cute set up and delicious food 😊
The bathroom doesn't have any paper towels to open the door. Not cool during covid!! Please fix that. We requested a table with a heater and were moved. Tipped the host $10 for the accommodation :-)
Great food & service !
First time to the Dorian and everything was amazing! We had seating outdoors so of course there’s the street noise but otherwise, it was great. Heaters were on and it was comfortable.
Food and drinks are amazing! I would like to return and hopefully be able to try everything on the menu.
After booking on OT a week in advanced I even called the restaurant to confirm that my reservation was specifically for INDOOR dining and they replied yes. But lo and behold they played me and ended up sitting outdoors on the sidewalk. On top of that I asked for a medium cooked filet mignon and got rare 😡
We made dinner reservations for Halloween night at The Dorian in San Francisco. The restaurant is located on the Marina's commercial strip on Chestnut Street. On this particular night all the restaurants in this area were hopping and busy! When I booked a time slot at Open Table it gave an option for their standard of only Outdoor Seating but they had limited capacity for indoor dining so we requested it and was accommodated immediately. We were given the only seats facing the huge bar so traffic was busy... it's okay, we didn't mind.
The menu for this particular Restaurant Week appealed to me. $40/ea for an appetizer, entree and a dessert. Hubby and I chose the following:
Appetizer: Dorian Caesar Salad (me), Beet Tartare
Entrée: Prime Rib each for the both of us
Dessert: Chocolate Decadence (me), Coconut Gelato with toppings
Our dinner was delicious and very filling... that prime rib was huge and cooked to perfection! Service was great. We were tended by two wait staff and between the two of them we were served nicely.
All Covid-19 safety precautions and guidelines were in place. Menus were scanned by a QR Code thru smart phones for a contactless experience. Masks must be worn and only taken off while eating/drinking. Social distancing maintained in common areas with extra spaces between tables.
Dress code is casual but on Halloween night many folks (mostly the younger crowd) were out in costumes and the scenery was active, live and full of people. Great music playing in the background. They served American pub fare and did I mention they had a huge bar!
Parking can be challenging around Chestnut and Lombard Streets but there is a paid garage at Pierce Street (between Chestnut and Lombard). Muni 30 bus line travels directly through Chestnut, but it can be extremely crowded and slow... I recommend taking an Uber or a taxi to make your arrival a little less hassle.
very short wine list. Food awful. Tables located dense.
The flavors were great and the best part of the meal by far. Our prime rib steaks were cold twice so I think I won't be getting that again. The desserts were a little too rich also. Service wasn't great. When our steaks came out cold the first time, we didn't see our server for about 10 minutes. She also didn't know really anything about the wines she had. Could name varietals but nothing else. For the price, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant since there are many better ones in the area.
Outdoor dining area is a little cramped, but this is a cute date night spot. My fiancé had to send his burger back because it was extremely soggy, and they comped it for us. Service has always been stellar.
Lovely place with delicious drinks, food, and service.
