The Dorset Street Bar
The Dorset stands out as a true Brighton Classic pub; relaxed, welcoming and full of character. It is popular with a unique and friendly cross section of shoppers, local residents, theatre goers and day trippers. It's the perfect spot to watch the bustling Brighton life go by, whether it's in winter whilst sitting by the fire with a warming mulled cider or seated outside in the summer, enjoying a refreshing drink in the sun! We are open 7 days a week from 9am.
Fantastic place to eat with lovely good and very helpful staff.
Brighton was still bustling despite current situation . Visited with a friend for Sunday roast which was outstanding. Large portion beautifully cooked . Clean washrooms and dining area . Lovely smiley service can not wait to return .
Fabulous, we've been a few times and always love the atmosphere, food and service
Will definitely be back
We booked late, and though the venue was busy, they still managed to fit us in. The staff though really busy, were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Great team and great food. Will return. Thanks
I had a disappointing main meal as the choice of fish was not communicated and the choice of boiled potatoes with salad was changed to mash! The staff to be fair exchanged my meal without question and although the seafood platter arrived about 45mins later was plentiful the whitebait was very dry. A lovely venue, efficient and friendly staff which I have experienced several times and had a great time with really good food, this time was not up to par but it will not put me off visiting again.
I booked a table based on a positive past breakfast experience and on the menu that was on their website.
Our table was lovely and the restaurant was busy but not too loud and we were seated quickly.
Unfortunately the menu did not reflect what was on the website. My vegetarian friend asked to alter the vegetarian option (beetroot and mushroom risotto) as she did not like mushrooms- this was not an option. Instead they chose a starter with side order of veg.
My vegan friend could not eat the only vegan option so chose a portion of fries and mixed veg.
The waitress did not write our order down so we had mixed veg with butter for the vegan and no veg with the starter for the vegetarian.
I chose crab linguine which had so much fresh chilli in it, it overpowered what little crab there was in the dish.
Shame there was not more choice for vegetarians and vegans or at least the option to alter the dishes. We also felt that the waitress was not that keen on accommodating us when we asked.
A big disappointment-must try harder.
I had the moules marinieres which was delicious and my friends really enjoyed the crab linguine. Couldn't resist the chocolate fondant, which was everything it should be, fantastic! Quite noisy but to be expected anywhere central Saturday lunchtime. Service slow although lovely staff, they were just very busy which is a reflection of how popular this restaurant is - deservedly so IMO.
Lived in Brighton all my life can’t believe I waited until now to visit the Dorset it was fab
Cosy pub/restaurant with friendly staff, great atmosphere, not too noisy. Lovely roast up there with the best in Brighton!
We went in mid November to book a table for two for the Christmas meal. We were told we can’t do this we have to book online. So we do so online through the Christmas page where it says book now. No issues. When we went in to eat we were told no we havnt booked the Christmas meal and if we wanted to do this we would have had to pre order. No one contacted us to pre order. The guy that we spoke to when we tried to book didn’t mention this. Nor did the booking page. Having had another look online I can see there now is a page where you fill in your details and someone contacts you or you can call to make a booking. This is absurd that we couldn’t book in person but can do over the phone. Perhaps we tried to book too early and that’s why it just took you straight to the normal booking page but regardless this was an error made by you and no Accomodation for this was made. I find it hard to believe that you couldn’t have made an exception in this case. The regular menu was below par and I wouldn’t have chosen to eat there otherwise. The food was ok (scallops were very good) The mulled cider was nice if not a little too lemony. What made it even worse was that we had 4 different waiters asking us if everything was ok with the food. We wanted to be left alone to try salvage the rest of our evening and not bothered by multiple different people constantly. We were so disappointed as this was our only opportunity to have Christmas dinner together and we hadn’t eaten all day in excited preparation for our 3 course meal.
Our food order was placed at 1.15pm. We noticed people around us were getting served who had ordered after us and when we questioned this, we were told our order had not been put into the kitchen! We were told it wold be another 30 minutes but after 45 minutes nothing came and we decided to leave (hungry!). Whilst we accept mistakes can happen, the staff didn't seem that bothered and all we were brought was one small portion of bread between six to keep us going. An offer of a round of complimentary drinks and a couple of swift starters would have appeased us but this was not forthcoming. The waitresses were very nice but obviously not trained correctly. The manager told us "I'm good at this!" which made us smile because on this occasion, there was no evidence to support this claim! Other tables around us seemed to have the same problem. It's a nice pub but I suggest going elsewhere for Sunday Lunch!
Great food great atmosphere and reasonable prices. What's not to like?
Had a pre-theatre meal at a very busy time on Saturday. Good job we booked but I guess it might be a bit quieter at other times. Will definitely go again.
A great place for Sunday Roast! good atmosphere . The only negative comment is that the music was rather too loud so everyone was shouting to make themselves heard. The whole place was very busy and very loud. Once it calmed down a bit the music was turned down and the whole place calmed down though you could still hear the great choice of music . Much more enjoyable.
Excellent Roast!! Meat was cooked brilliantly! Good portion sizes! Our waitress Christine was loverly! Will 100% be returning!
We had a very good meal at the Dorset, good food(with good vegan options too), good service and pleasant atmosphere. It was lunchtime on a weekday, so quiet for conversation to catch up with friends.
I went for Sunday lunch with my mother. Nice atmosphere, well run, good staff. Food was all nicely done, I had pork belly which was particularly good.
Buenos platos y buena sidra Los camareros simpáticos aunque un poco lentos tal vez Un sitio muy chulo
Helpful staff and attentive, great food . Very busy as booked pre komedia show but they worked hard to get us out on time. Lively atmosphere and a great sociable venue . Would go again
Fabulous quality food
Definitely would recommend
The Dorset Street Bar is a busy, bustling, and noisy place. The service was good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. But, I’m at that age where I like the ambiance to be a bit quieter and more intimate, so I didn’t really enjoy myself very much. Again, the food was good, the place was lively, and service was friendly. If this appeals to you, it’s a great place.
