We chose the venue based in the menu shown on opentable. However on arrival it was clear the menu bore no resemblance and there was no vegan menu. They blamed opentable for not keeping the menu up to date. We left without ordering. The restaurant was empty - staff were apologetic.

Such nice food we got a few starters to share between us and the dirty fries, the popcorn squid was insane too. Cannot wait to come for a meal on the main bit

Very limited menu and awful service. OK as a bar but not as a place to eat.

Service has gone downhill it’s a shame, for three of us to eat the bill was incorrect and no one wanted to take responsibility so we ended up paying more

Our annual Christmas get together! Service was fabulous, the bottomless fizz was free flowing. The only down side was a few of the food options had run out so we had to have alternatives, but the alternatives were still nice so it’s wasn’t a big deal.

This never happened as we were informed on arrival that they had run out of food and were therefore closing and that they had repeatedly tried to contact us. On checking they had rung at mid-day (once) to say last serving was at 7.30 and therefore they could not do 8 pm. Since our reservation was confirmed and a reminder sent to us on the day before we were not very happy!

We were a party of seven celebrating a special event. We knew Deakins was under new ownership and had heard good things, so we decided to give it a try. At the first order of drinks, we should have taken it as a sign...There were two incorrect drinks. We had about 3-4 rounds throughout the evening and every single round, there was at least one that had to be sent back because it was incorrect. When the starters arrived - things definitely looked up! They were all correct and all delicious! But then came the problem...the person we were celebrating ordered a steak cooked Medium. When she cut into it, it was pouring blood and bright read inside. She didn't want to complain, but the rest of the table insisted she send it back. She did. It came back again a few minutes later and was still bright red inside. It got sent back again. - bottom line, it was sent back 3 times and they continued to fire the same piece of meat. By the 4th time, everyone else at the table had finished eating and the steak came back tough & completely well done inside - I am sure the chef was frustrated at that point - so he just cooked it until it was rubber. We requested to see the manager. We were told the 'Manager was too busy to come by, but authorized a 30% discount on the steak'. That was unacceptable and at this point, our celebration had been taken over by a disgust for the poor service and lack of care by the manager. Now, I will say, our poor server was lovely and friendly throughout and we really felt sorry for her since it wasn't her fault. A manager finally camy by our table - after numerous requests. He then threw the server under the bus by denying that he had sent her out with a paltry discount as a service recovery. We were not impressed whatsoever by him or his lack of care to his staff & customers. He did eventually remove the steak from the bill. Unfortunately, at this point, the entire experience was overshadowed with a sour note by his lack of care.

Food was great, excellent Sunday Roast. Service was unfortunately a bit sketchy - we waited for our plates for far too long after our food had arrived, and our sauces arrived when we’d almost finished eating. The quality of the produce and food however overshadowed the general shortcomings of the front-of-house. This is clearly a kitchen that knows their stuff, and we’ll go again. Not quite as good as Deeson’s, which is opposite, but a very good addition to town.

Been open for only 2 weeks but staff clearly aren’t learning fast. They just put the bottles of water and wine on the table, don’t even open them never mind pour them. They also do not inform customers of what’s unavailable before ordering. Calamari over cooked, parsnip soup too spicy, no bread with terrine, burger bap “feels” stale on outside both times I’ve had it - but it isn’t stale. Burger meat and garnish is delicious however, as are the chips. Everything very clean. Not sure what door to go in and out, seems they swap between the one opposite Deesons and the one opposite Chocolate Cafe. Extremely surprised to see 10% service added to bill automatically even for tables of 2. It’s apparently a “Pub and Kitchen” in Canterbury. Even pubs in London don’t typically add a service charge for small parties. Great location and hopefully they will improve over time.
