Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

A lovely experience. We dined over the lunch period and the menu was extensive and good value for money. The staff were super attentive and very accommodating with our dog who accompanied us. They gave us the best table available to allow Chester to get down on his mat next to the table while we dined. As it was a birthday occasion we actually ran over the 3.00 closure , but we weren’t hurried out ; the manager was very friendly and courteous and told us to take our time while he tied round . A very pleasant birthday lunch. We would definitely recommend this restaurant not only for the food but also for the lovely attention to detail and outstanding customer care .

Very nice food at an average price and good portion sizes, staff very attentive and wait time for food acceptable. Good selection of beers and wines at average prices. Restaurant was busy with quite high noise levels which did detract from the atmosphere and occasion.

Booked for 4 o'clock didn't get it till 4.25 order taken in doorway Overdone Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes needed a chizzle Meat delicious veg good was OK but won't rush back

Dear Lesley, Firstly i'd like to apologise for the wait time you & your family had to encounter, mainly due to how busy we were prior to your booking. We are working hard on this so there isn't a repeat occurrence. Regarding your yorkshire pudding & roast potato issue- i have spoken to the chefs on duty with your feedback, and can only further apologise on this front. Overpriced with very small portions. Starters are a joke at £10 each. £5.25 for a pint of beer and £4.50 for a latte. Tables for 2 are very small, making for an uncomfortable evening.

wonderful family occasion celebrating an 80th birthday. Unfortunately some of the family weren't able to be there (living abroad). We had a lovely quiet corner and everyone enjoyed their meal including vegans and vegetarians and us "normal" people! We've been before and will be back.
