The Duck & Willow
The duck and willow is a local pub and restaurant for us .
Great food and service, friendly staff what more could you need .
Compared to previous visits it seems portion sizes are diminished while prices are high for what is basically upmarket pub grub.
I think £25 for nondescript Prosecco it decidedly toppy as well !!!
You end up with a bill hardly any cheaper than The Ivy and really isn't in the same ball park.
Generally we enjoyed our meal. My son had the burger on the children’s menu but couldn’t eat it due to a burnt flavour. We didn’t say anything at the time as my son can be fussy, however my husband said afterwards that it was a little burnt. I enjoyed my gammon, the pineapple chutney was lovely and not something I’ve had before.
My husband and I had a delicious meal there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the pleasure to try out their new menu.
As usual fantastic atmosphere, welcoming bar staff and great steak! Would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
This was our fourth visit to the Duck and Willow and the food has always been exceptional. It was particularly noisy on this occasion as we were seated near three larger tables with children so it was not quite the cosy dining experience we have enjoyed on previous occasions. My only criticism is that the menus on the website are not kept up to date with the current menu on offer. My partner had set his heart on having the lamb that was listed on the website but this was not on the menu on offer on the night.
Great food great service highly recommend ,already booked to go back
The food was very nice, great service. Small but very good choice of food. Thought kids ate free in the holidays but all food on the bill (should have questioned).
Was being served by someone on a trial shift, so we made allowances for the delays. Manager did keep us up to date which was appreciated. Sticky toffee pudding needs to have honeyed oats on the menu as for a few moments I was panicking it was nuts.
Overall the food was amazing. The lamb was fantastic, would highly recommend it.
Amazing food, one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. The cocktails were excellent & the staff very friendly
This was my second visit. I had the hake the first visit and chose it again as I enjoyed it so much but was disappeared as the fish did not taste so fresh and the meal in general was not such a high quality as the first time. My husband had the lamb burger which he enjoyed.
Fantastic Sunday roast. Cant wait to pogo back. Service was a bit sllow would be my only moan?
Fantastic food. Best Sunday roast I’ve had for a long time!
Found Pate starter was bland - surprised to have cooked salmon and not fresh in other - my lamb main was great and partner had duck but found the taste of duck overpowered by bean/veg addition - desert was great. Had to change chair as seat fallen through. Also changed seats as noise level at back of pub loud due to 2 large groups. Service great and acted on requests quickly and will be back Hope feed back helps - first time visitor
I would recommend to a friend - the only negative was that we ordered the bread and olive dish as a starter, we got three pieces of bread - the next table (also two people) got four pieces of bread and cocktail sticks with which to pick up the olives - consistency is key
Amazing food. Lovely venue. Delightful staff. Free parking.
I shall definitely book again.
Ate with friends mid week.
Very noisy, sound echoed on bare boards and rather stark interior.
Limited vegetarian choice for me as I don’t eat mushrooms.
Quite basic fare eg burgers, gammon and chips etc.
My dessert was poached pear in a very gooey red gludge. Much too sweet and ruined the pear.
To be fair the other 3 diners were happy with their meals.
This was described as a gourmet pub, in my humble opinion it’s not.
The waitresses were very pleasant but not especially attentive.
All in all, would not return.
Sticky floors, dirty bathrooms and grease dripping out of my sandwich, I really felt sick after eating it im not sure why. The food looked lovely but didnt taste good. Its not that clean in the main restaurant either and the staff arent very friendly. The atmosphere was dead, wont return.
Sunday roast only available up to 5 but on web site says available to 6
Very hot in room
Won’t rush back
Sunday lunch time was busy with young families so quite noisy and difficult to hear conversations at own table as wear hearing aids. Sunday roast delicious and plenty of it, though roast beef could have been more tender. Went the next day for lunch. Ploughman’s was amazing. Loved the pineapple chutney. Thank you
The Duck and Willow has a good variety of food available. The staff are polite and friendly, The food once ordered was prompt, and excellent quality.
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a good pub meal 😊
Lovely food. Sat outside and had great service. Hottest day of the year thus far and kept nice and cool in the lovely beer garden - also survived the brief shower under a lovely large umbrella.
We had Sunday lunch and a couple of bar meals. The food was lovely, and the service was great. It was just really pricey hence the 4 stars not 5. We will come back on the very odd occasion but certainly not regularly.
Lovely food and service. We all had a brilliant night x
Normally a huge hit however the service wasn’t as good this time round, slow with refilling drinks, not bringing out cutlery with our main courses, not decorating the table with all the balloons etc despite dropping these off hours before our booking having already agreed with the staff and they were more than happy to do it however they ‘forgot’ 🤔 normally happy to pay over the odds for food and drink in here due to the service however the little things were missed on this occasion
2 diners: had mushroom gnocchi and prawn/salmon cocktail for starters, both excellent, light dishes with plenty of flavours. Both had rib eye steaks for main course - very tender with amazing grill flavour. Rather too many chunky chips to finish, but otherwise the balance of the plate was great.
Efficient and friendly service in a cosy, lively, modern pub setting.
The food, service and atmosphere were all great. The only complaint I have is that I had my elbows on the table all evening as I was taking to my friend opposite me and I ended up with the skin rubbed off both elbows! They are quite sore and I will end up with 2 scabs! There must have been a rough surface on the table for that to have happened so next time I will keep my elbows off the table or wear long sleeves! Apart from that was a lovely evening :)
Overall experience was adequate, with the food being reasonably good, though not overly special. Service was not absolute however, with one of the staff members not making us feel welcome at all; attitude was not expected for the role she currently resides as. A simple smile and a warmer welcome would be an improvement.
We came here for my Mum's 60th, and had a wonderful time. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. The pub was quite busy, but the atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be going back and cannot recommend it highly enough
Food delicious, good service, wine very expensive. Would have liked to have been given the option to buy a bottle of wine to be cost effective, as had we have realised the cost, we would have done so.
Quality food at a reasonable price, nice surroundings and friendly staff.
Wetherspoons it ain't !!!
Was expecting a lot more when we attended the Duck & Willow - service very slow. Food ok but meat stringy and fatty. Had to ask for the carrots which was supposed to be included with the meal and were given 3 carrots for 4 people. Very overpriced for what you get. Not sure would return.
It was the first time me and my wife tried this place and we could not fault it. The food was the best I’ve had in a long time, the service was spot on and the overall look and feel about the place was perfect. We will be back for sure.
Love coming here for food and drinks! All the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the roast beef is amazing!!
I don’t know why but it took ages for our food to come. We must have waited a good 45 minutes for our starters and it was nothing complicated. The restaurant wasn’t even full. It was tasty but I thought a little overpriced for what you got. Good quality wine though and in that respect you get what you pay for.
Yes would definitely recommend to a friend. We already know a lot of people who go to the Duck and Willow. We are lucky to be able to walk there so we can both enjoy a nice bottle of wine or a good beer. The menu is excellent, great choice !
Brilliant food and so welcoming to dogs! Service on Friday 28 June was not as good as it has been in the past. It was slow and unfriendly which is unusual. Excellent steak though and generally (on other times we have visited) a really lovely experience.
1st time ive eaten here and chose pre prom breakfast with my son we both lovely food we both very much enjoyed it. Will be returning to try sunday lunch in a few weeks and very much looking forward to it.
Delicious roast, friendly service!
First visit, friendly staff, nice choice of menu. I had asparagus with poached egg starter, could have done with some bread to mop up egg/sauce, shame to waste it! Acoustics made it very noisy at times. But overall enjoyed my dinner & hope to return some time.
Totally amazing service. Food was good and we really enjoyed it. Not cheap but we will definitely go back.
