We opened in 1998 and our ethical business ideals remain the same today: we serve delicious organic food and drink carefully sourced from independent producers, while keeping our environmental impact and food miles super-low. In fact, over 90% of our fresh fruit and veg comes from organic farms in the South East of England and East Anglia. We change our menu daily according to what’s available – if something isn’t in season, you won’t find it on the menu.
The food was delicious, catered excellently to myself (being a vegan) and to my partner being a huge meat eater. Our waitress was also lovely, will definitely be coming back.
Lovely food and great service. Also, very happy with the choice on the wine list.
Nice local restaurant, had better meals there, this time it was just ok, but then it was quite late, place almost empty, and kitchen close to finishing.
Very lovely and accommodating staff. The food was tasty and the pub is relaxed and cosy.
Lovely food and service was friendly and helpful. I really liked the range of vegetarian options.
Very friendly service and cosy place. Good quite average even though dessert (hazelnut tart) was very good
Had a great Vegan sunday roast here. Would definately go back
love this place, and will keep coming back for all of those things - the wonderful organic food, the hearty vibe, and the lovely service
The food was excellent as well as the service. The place is an old haunt for me since the 2000s and it seems a bit neglected. The back room was a mess and could use some attention. It’s still a classic pub with great intentions; it’s distressing to see it looking a bit down at the heals.
I ordered a lentil coconut curry. It was delicious but a fair price would have been the half of the actual price, if you think that half of the plate is basmati rice. The dessert price is more balanced (winter crumble). Delicious too.
Very friendly and professional staff.
An intimate atmosphere, just a bit too dark and noisy.
Very nice waitress indeed. The noise level was OK but I would imagine it could be a bit noisy with a full house.
Incidentally we are long term Riverford customers.
I like to think by the way that I'm sufficiently literate not to need lessons in how to write a review. Your very nice pub you should remember, is in Islington not on the hill in Washington. You get me bruv?
A quiet Thursday on a wet night in January was the ideal time to visit. This gastro-pub has all the right ingredients for an enjoyable evening - great food, good beer and most importantly no background music. It means you can enjoy the food and drink while having an easy conversation without fighting the music.
Terrible meal I wouldn’t go back! I expected the Sunday roast to be much better!
I took my cousin from Australia here to give her a taste of London gastro pubs and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh, creative and delicious, and the pub itself is quite a find, with gorgeous period features as well as large glass doors and windows all around so you get natural light flowing through the space. Even more importantly it was quiet enough to hold a decent conversation without shouting which is also quite rare in London!
I have been a number of times and I always love the amazing food. My only little criticism would be a slightly longer dessert menu. The crumble and brownies excellent. Good choice of wine and beers. I last went on my birthday and it was a really lovely treat.
Lovely food and lovely atmosphere, was very impressed by the food and experience here
Friendly welcoming staff! Our table was reserved for other guest after our dinner booking, the waiting staff informed us and went that extra mile to reserve us another table once we'd finished so we didn't feel the need to rush our meal. She was extremely thoughtful!
The food is spectacular, service lovely and you feel at home and relaxed.
Exceptionally friendly staff on one of the busiest nights of the year. Free starter and drinks more than made up for a bit of delay on account of booking system errors. The pub is always overwhelmingly noisy (acoustic panels please!) but in the dining area it’s quiet enough for a good long conversation.
Great food in a lovely pub setting. Definitely worth finding - a real gem!
Restaurant area, food and service all very good. Not hurried by the staff but best to book a table as it can get crowded especially on a Friday night.
Delicious meal. Very tasty venison and accompaniments. Only slight criticism was the veg came out on the cool side, although they did reheat. The brownie was absolutely delicious and gooey. However, it did have a few smallish bits of crunchy, what we think was beetroot. Overall really good, just a bit more attention to detail would be nice.
Fabulous food with excellent vegetarian options and some vegan dishes too. Cosy restaurant area with a large open bar area, where food is also served. Reservations needed for the restaurant. Relaxed ambience.
Great pub but the restaurant lacks atmosphere. Food expensive for what it was.
great staff, and the food was amazing. we will be going back for sure.
Very disappointing. Pleasant, efficient staff but the food was mediocre at best. I had pig cheeks which should have been rich and flavoursome but instead was bland and unsatisfying. Overpriced and overrated.
The food was bland, the place was packed and incredibly noisy, and there was no service at all other than bringing plates to the table. Extremely overpriced.
Lovely quiet spot to meet up - the food was really tasty - I had the chicken with polenta and greens . The chicken was moist and tasty so was polenta and greens. Everything organic - this is my second visit and will be definitely coming again - would totally recommend it. Only small problem was the dessert (apple and apricot crumble) took a long time to come and my son was in a rush to get back to work but otherwise wonderful spot.
Not cheap but very amazing food, lovely service, and super nice location for a great pub !
Delicious food as always but super busy so took a while for the servers to spot us among the bigger tables
Obviously a very popular place so it's likely that we were unlucky with our experience: the staff were friendly but were very, very busy - the restaurant was full. We were shown to our table of 2 by a fireplace, which smelt of damp and mould and we subsequently felt a bit 'out of sight, out of mind'. We had to go and find someone to take our order and again to pay at the end. We ordered some olives as a starter, which didn't arrive. The mains (lamb sunday roasts) arrived without any delay however the lamb was quite rare, not what I'd expect from a roast. The veg was lovely but the portions were small for the price (one small potato per person). I had visited the Riverford Field Kitchen in Buckfasteligh and was very impressed so was hoping for something similar.
Excellent imaginative dishes made with named-source organic ingredients. We’ve been meaning to go there for a long time and shall certainly go again
Great place, the atmosphere is very lively and the service friendly and attentive, even though it was super busy. The food was great and catered really well for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Overall a great spot for dinner and a warm welcome.
Excellent here as always with tasty seasonal food, perfectly cooked.
Very limited menu... evermore so as 2 of 5 available mains were stricken off the menu leaving only vegetarian options.
The remaining dishes were unappetising and pushing high prices for what they were.
Staff seemed confused why we didn't want to stay to eat.
I’d recommend the pub but not the Sunday roast... very salty and dry chicken and the roast potatoes were also over cooked.
Excellent. Great evening. Very friendly staff & lovely food
This place is delightful. Excellent and imaginative organic produce, well cooked, with an attractive setting and friendly service. We went back the next night!
Our 2nd time at the Duke of Cambridge. Fast becoming our favourite bar/restaurant in London.
