The Eight Bells
Book a table for dinner, eat at the bar or pull the curtains to the Drawing Room, our intimate private dining room that’s perfect for smaller gatherings, dinner parties and informal business meetings.
We each had a lovely Sunday roast dinner. It is a lovey place in a beautiful location. The building itself is stunning. The staff were very attentive and gave us plenty of time between courses. Overall a lovely place to eat.
Yes the food was great .
Could do with more vegetarian food on the menu.
First time visit but will certainly not be the last! Beautiful surroundings and superb food. Thoroughly enjoyed.
This was the first time that I'd been to The Eight Bells having driven past it so many times. It did not disappoint with a great feeling to the dining room. The food was outstanding and the service was very attentive.
We had booked for lunch for 4 and ended eating in the bar, in comfortable armchairs.
The welcome was good and the food was very good, from starters through to main course and desserts.
The only blot was a cheeseboard and dessert, which we ordered were left in the kitchen with no one bringing them out until we chased for them.
Really lovely dining experience. Super historic room, attractive decor, delicious food well presented and served. Accompanied by tasty wines and good ambience. We will be back.
Refreshingly creative and delicious dishes, served with a high level of attentiveness to the diner
Happy relaxed evening. Food good and service friendly
Quintessential English pub in a fabulous small market town, Saffron Walden. Hospitable. Very good food.
Was a friends Birthday, I couldn't fault it and shall certainly come back.
We had a brilliant Sunday lunch in The Eight Bells. It's in a lovely old barn, the food was excellent (we had roast beef, which was perfectly cooked medium and tender), and the service was friendly and professional. We were actually surprised how good it was and we're recommending it to all our friends.
Lovely restaurant, always made to fell very welcome, beautiful food.

A good menu. Food did not disappoint. Good service. We will certainly be going back.
Very nice lunch - only issue was roast potatoes were under done in my opinion.
Great food and value for money with attentive, friendly staff. A relaxing Sunday!
The company was excellent A***
Would 100% go again!
Delicious freshly cooked food, helpful and friendly staff in a great, warm and inviting atmosphere.
We had a family Sunday lunch to celebrate my daughter's 28th birthday. It was not our first visit to The Eight Bells - we came because we knew we'd enjoy it and we did.
The menu has something to suit us all. Service is speedy and polite. Food excellent. We like the atmosphere and appreciate that we can hear each other talk!
We had a lovely evening and the food was fantastic. Recommend the Steak or the Duck!
Good evening with friends
Excellent Food, good service lovely ambience, well recommended!
We ate in the restaurant at the back of the pub. Lovely and warm, great ambience. Very tasty food. Will definitely be going back.
Varied menu catering for all tastes, good size portions, welcoming staff knowledgeable on wine front, and decent priced wines. We enjoyed a lovely evening
Top quality Sunday lunch. Roast lamb with all the trimmings was excellent. Friendly, welcoming staff. Highly recommended.
Great food, great service. Lovely atmosphere. Will be returning.
Lovely evening spent with friends at the 8 Bells. Service was brilliant and staff very friendly, nothing too much trouble. Food was delicious and the setting is really comfortable. Would highly recommend to any one staying in that area.
We loved 8Bells. The venue was gorgeous and the food amazing. I would definitely recommend it
Had a LOVELY roast dinner, one of the best I've had! 2 courses for £19.50 on a Sunday was great value. The music was a little loud but we were with quiet company so may have been us. Staff were friendly and service was good. The restaurant was fully booked so we had a table in the bar which was still a nice setting. We will be back soon and have already raved about our lunch to friends. Thanks!
Booked online - arrived to find they had no knowledge of booking, was very good at finding us a table. Nice setting, could hear ourselves talking. Food was mediocre .
Lovely meal in a lovely pub. Very friendly and helpful staff.
This was my second visit to this venue and again, it didn’t disappoint. Excellent food, service and surroundings. Worth the drive 😃
Great service and lovely, tasty food. This was my first visit but won't be my last.
Yet another fantastic meal never been disappointed. Great service. Friendly atmosphere.
Food is always fresh and tasty. I’ve tried a few dishes and the fish is always cooked to perfection.
Lovely setting with oak beams
Lovely meal, beautiful food. Fantastic and personal service.
Starters are overpriced for what you get but the rest is worth the money.
Very good welcome and very tasty food delivered quickly as I had spoken to Laura to explain that we needed to leave for a performance promptly at 7pm.
I should mention that the speakers which we were next to were quite loud as we just wanted to chat. However, I didn’t mention this at the time so you didn’t have chance to fix it.
We had a great supper all in all!
Having picked the Eight Bells as a halfway house for the four guests were absolutely delighted with the whole experience and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our excellent lunches. The service was friendly without being intrusive and the setting within the 16th Century restaurant are was a delight. Wine choice was equally appropriate and made by our waiter who may well have been the boss! We will make sure that we return to the Eight Bells in future.
Enjoyed sitting in the garden under large brolly shade with a couple of friends for lunch and a good few hours of chatting! We met early so started with pots of tea, followed by ceasar salad lunch & cool long drinks. There isn't table service in the garden as such but this suited us perfectly & we could have had a table inside if we had wanted. Perfect all round for long afternoon outside in open air. Food yummy.
Well worth the drive from Loughton in Essex , braving all the traffic and large roundabouts - would thoroughly recommend a visit to this iconic building in a delightful village - saffron walden - keep doing what you are all doing - it works - thanks A Hyland and company
