Although the food was good (with the exception of the potatoes which had obviously be reheated and therefore tasted rather strange), there was nothing special about any of the courses. I was expecting a cleverer use of the ingredients and it was hard to taste any passion in the The chef’s cooking. The staff were friendly enough but again there was no real attention to detail and we had to get our own coats from the clock room as the waitress had forgotten. As for the decor, the whole place felt a bit like being in a Witherspoons, with no clear design focus or particular interest in creating a warm, interesting or asthetically pleasing environment.
All in all our experience was underwhelming!
As a foodie, I was left bitterly disappointed by my experience here. The food, whilst you may say is Michelin star, it certainly is not. The fillet steak was lacking seasoning and flavor, whilst the Dauphinoise were bland. The service was absolutely shocking for an establishment of this type, we were instantly judged upon arrival for bringing our 1 year old son and not once during our meal did anyone ask if our food was OK, or top up my glass, or pour the wine single handed from the bottom, as you would expect. To add to matters, our starters were not cleared away before we got our mains and sat there for the duration of our meal cluttering the table. When i went to pay the bill, there was an infuriating 10% service charge on top. Clearly we had not had the service we would have expected, yet i was expected to pay for it. We also made the effort to dress for the occasion whilst we needn't have bothered as it seemed they are willing to let in any detritus off the street, even though they have a business casual dress code. I will not recommend this establishment to anyone, there are far better brasseries & gastro pubs out there for half the price.
Most enjoyable meal with excellent and welcoming service. Would definitely recommend for that something different in Torquay.
Food was above average however a side dish of new potatoes was served as Dauphinois. Our main courses were on the table so we eat part without the side dish. On arrival the potatoes were just warm and the herb butter they were served in remained solid. When we pointed this out we received apologies and were not charged for them.
We were also asked within 5 mins of receiving the menus if we were ready to order.
Staff were nice, food was good but was it worth £125.00 for 3 courses two people with wine, not sure really.
A lovely evening meal. The filet of beef entree was as good as anything I've ever tasted.
Brilliant as always took my mum her first time she wanted her dessert 5 times over it was so good! Service and food was fabulous.
Everything was entirely up to the previous experience that we had enjoyed, with excellent service and a good choice of menu.
This was a lovely dining experience but, although the set lunch was very reasonable, with the add ons, such as the vegetables, it made it quite an expensive lunchtime experience.
Took my daughter for her birthday, whilst the food was beautiful I don't think you should have to pay extra for vegtables and potatoes at these prices!
This was our first visit and definitely one to repeat! The quality of the food and its preparation were, for me, the real standouts and logical enough given its Michelin star. The staff were all attentive and friendly and the environment was perfect for an intimate tête-à-tête given its subtle décor and music. The price point was also quite appropriate. So, highly recommended for a special evening when you want to appreciate your guest as much as your meal!
Great place to celebrate any special occasion. The staff were great and the food was fantastic
Lived up to expectations, lovely atmosphere and happy to recommend for a special occasion and celebration . Can't wait to go again , when I'm flushed.
Superb service and exceptional food, as always. We visited for lunch just before Christmas and were not disappointed.
Superb food beautifully cooked and presented. Good service and atmosphere.
As usual we had a super time at the Elephant, We had the lunchtime set menu which was excellent. Roasted carrot soup with Brixham crab and coconut and curry foam was a delight to look at and fabulous to eat. Good food, good wine, good service. Can't beat it.
