Welcome to The Elephant Restaurant
The Elephant is a bright, informal restaurant which is situated near the beautiful Torbay harbour. It was the first restaurant in Torquay to be awarded a Michelin star which it maintains today. We aim to source all our ingredients locally and sustainably, many from our dedicated farm in Brixham.

Run by chef proprietor, Simon Hulstone and his wife Katy. Food is cooked by a talented team of chefs and served by friendly, professional team of staff.

Due to the style of cooking we cannot produce dairy free menus & therefore cannot provide vegan options.

A deposit is required to make reservations on special days of the year, on our special events, or for tables of 6 or more. This is paid over the phone by calling 01803 200044.

Children's menu is only available at lunch for ages 10 and under.

Tasting menu only available in the evening unless requested via phone in advance.

    Second time at this amazing restaurant, a sublime experience, the staff is amazingly kind and makes you feel like in a family place, everyone talks and intaqracts with you and makes you feel ccompletely relaxed and easy. We were celebrating a birthdayqand the staff had prepared a very kind birthday card gfor me, the food was just like having ambrosia for the Gods I am incredibly pleased with my experience and certainly will be back as many times as possible

    Crab and scallop starters then monkfish and lamb mains both superb. Brilliant white wine recommended (beret noir), great service, friendly, casual atmosphere with tables well spaced.

    Overall food was good though we didn’t think that some flavours mixed well together like fresh scallops served with spicy rice which overpowered the sweetness of the scallops. We felt that the chef was trying too hard for the sake of creativity. Service was mediocre - half of the staff were polite but we didn’t feel welcoming (other than one lady delivering food to us - she was genuinely smiley and engaging from start to finish). Restaurant decor was nice and classy. On a whole, it’s a pleasant dinner.

    Staff member was warm and welcoming on our arrival. All staff were professional and friendly without being overbearing or intrusive. There was a choice of à la carte, lunch menu or tasting menu, all of which were competitively priced. We opted for the tasting menu, which was absolutely delicious.; we could not fault anything; even the octopus, which my husband was a bit apprehensive about! The wine list was very good. All in all, a lovely afternoon spent in a great restaurant with fantastic food and drinks.

    Amazing food, both flavour combinations of each dish and variety of ingredients used. The service was excellent, couldn’t fault it at all. The only minor downside was that the chairs were not particularly comfortable was a 2 hour + meal.

    Superb food, beautifully presented, very attentive service & appreciated the birthday card & message written on dessert plate! Only thing we could criticise was the noise level of very loud speaking group on the next table to ours, but unfortunately you can't do much about that ! Lovely to see the same friendly staff there who always make us feel very welcome & special.
