About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
Set in the picturesque village of Abbots Ripton with access to beautiful walks on the local estate, The Elm has everything you want from your perfect countryside pub; A glorious garden, a roaring fire, comfortable rooms, delicious food and a wide selection of drinks.

The Grade II-listed building was built, as an open hall, in the late 15th Century to offer hospitality to the drovers bringing cattle down from Scotland (along the Bullock Road) to the market at St.Ives. It was later altered with the insertion of a brick chimney in the early 17th century. The Fellowes family, that own and run the pub, came to the area around the same time the pub got its chimney...

We very much enjoyed our meal at the Elm. Food was well cooked and we enjoyed both courses. There was a good selection of wines too.

Had a very enjoyable burger with my friend. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. They’re off to a very good start, and I wish them every success in what is a very difficult industry.

All round excellent. Amole parking. Met with a cheery, welcoming smile. Menu covered all bases. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Had Pie of the Day & Sausages, both served with fresh vegetables. Definitely highly recommended and great to have this restaurant close to home.

Excellent vegetables and roasties to die for with the Sunday lunch. Not keen on the Yorkshire pudding though but the meat was top quality. Superb service but poor choice of ales compared to the past.

Food was tasty which is the most important element. Service was slowish and ordered second drinks never arrived, For the princes being charged I would have expected a bit more effort. We thought it was ok but we won’t be rushing back.

The staff were very lovely, along with good service at all times. The Sunday beef lunch was good but the Yorkshire puddings needed to improve, it was like eating thin cardboard. In my opinion, it wasn’t a pudding! We asked for more gravy and got the smallest jug ever! The desserts were very good. Would we return? Yes, we would as the atmosphere in the pub was very welcoming.
