Nice to see fresh ingredients being used e.g cherry tomatoes on the pizza, nice crisp salad with the bread and olives
Booked a table for 5 and was shown to a tiny table for 4. Whilst we were eating the restaurant started to pack up and got out a huge and rather noisy floor cleaner and started to clean around us, it was so noisy we couldn’t hear ourselves talking.
Mt first poor meal at the Ocean.
Light lunch of Jacket Potato with Prawns. The Potato was lovely, but the Prawns were inedible. It was as if they had been cooked with the Potato, therefore cooked twice! Very chewy and tasteless.
However the experience has not put me off going to the Engine Room, although I do tend to frequent the Deck more. I just shan't have Jacket Potato with Prawns again.
Service was fine but the food order came out wrong and also cost of food was rather high / costly
Christmas 'All Jazzed Up' event, held in the upstairs function suite, not the Engine Room.
Given the current issues around Covid, the seating arrangement was very poor.
Ok, there aren't government requirements if force about not mixing, but the virus is still around, so surely best practice would be to maintain distance between strangers? The layout was large tables with mixed households. The table (of 10) that we were allocated to was right in a corner with no apparent ventilation. A corner of no air movement for C19 to hang around in.
We had a look at the set up from the door, and decided not to take the risk and to turn around and go home. Such a shame because we were really looking forward to seeing the band.
Come on LED - do the right thing and set a good example.
Good evening, Thank you for your "anonymous" review of our free event. As you will see from other reviews your interpretation of the event is not quite accurate. We moved the event to our Ocean Suite as this is a much bigger venue than the engine room. The engine room has a capacity of 120 and the Ocean Suite 300. This is far better than the COVID secure guidance. Secondly, throughout the event, in the Ocean Suite we are able to create a constant airflow; Using our balconies.
Food was good, but I came mainly for the jazz concert, which was excellent. The event was moved upstairs to The Suite, which had a lovely atmosphere and plenty of room on the dance floor. The music was 'energetic', but that was the point. When there is no music, the background noise level is acceptable.
We attended Jazz Night in the Banqueting Suite, which was excellent. It is even better upstairs as there is plenty of room for seating and dancing. Look forward to getting back to regular jazz nights.

Eaten here lots of time before, but this occasion wasn't as good.
Poor quality cut of steak, and a Kids birthday party happening on a Friday night on a table right behind us.
Will give it a while before we eat here again.

We always eat here when we visit exmouth & it never disappoints!
Really bad timing on meals, daughters food arrived about 15 minutes after ours and I had to collect it from the food service area as there were no staff available. Food was good and they did let me swap the chips out for a salad, which I really appreciated.
Our sons birthday on Friday was made extra special by the attentive and really friendly staff at the Engine Room. The food was great for the kids and the staff adapted very well to 8 ever changing minds about flavours of Ice cream!! Thank you and we will be back.
Very good setting with good service. The food was very enjoyable and good value. Staff were very courteous and helpful. There was a slight error in the order but was dealt with speedily and very apologetically and did not detract from the overall dining experience. .

Very slow service despite having 5 members of staff loitering around. We were sitting just next to the hatch from the kitchen and food was left waiting there for nearly 10 minutes regularly. We spotted our food and actually went over and collected it ourselves!
We waited half an hour for deserts despite having very obviously finished and stacked our plates. Staff were working past regularly and one lady was sweeping the floor right next to our table.
Was a shame because the kids got super bored waiting and we probably won’t return for this reason.
Been here before. Service was very good but food was average to say the least. Nothing wrong with it but as it's a slightly pricier and nice restaurant expected better. Burger was slightly overdone and waffles a bit too dry. All nicely presented but lacked to taste i have come to expect for Ocean.
I usually go to The Deck, but couldn't book a table, so settled for The Engine Room. I needn't have been concerned the Engine Room is equally as good, and I didn't have to climb the stairs, or use the lift!! Good value for money.

Food was poor, ordered from app. Asked to change chips for fries told there would be an extra £1.20 cosy plus we'd lose the 5% discount for using the app!!!
Burger had to be sent back as it was burnt.
It was just an overall poor visit sadly not the 1st time but definitely the last.
Hi Ian, The discount of 5% is only given on the web ordering so we are unsure what happened here, there isn't an option to change the chips to fries on the new web ordering platform perhaps that is what made you so frustrated. We do agree Ocean may not be the place for you and hopefully you will find somewhere you like more.
