Excellent service and food , will definitely be visiting again
Beautiful surroundings. Service was attentive, a little too quick on occasions, when plates were removed while I was eating my last mouthful. Food was excellent and well presented.
Open table mess up on my reservation even though I had a confirmation. The restaurant made it right, even thought it was open Tables fault. Wonderful atmosphere and service was right on.
An early evening outing.. It was the pre-theatre menu that had attracted us to the Rubens… ‘a bargain’. Unfortunately we arrived too late and A’la Carte it was !! There was obviously more choice on the full menu but the dishes we chose were the same as those on the theatre menu. We both opted for the whole plaice and the sticky toffee pudding with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The service was faultless, well spaced tables with very comfortable seating. The crudities with garlic dip and the selection of breads served whilst we waited for the main course were very good. The portions sizes were more than adequate, perhaps they might have been smaller on the pre-theatre offering. We’ll have to return at some point to find out.
Service was ok. Food was good, but not anything special. Waited forever for the check!
Lovely attentive courteous staff, delicious food. We were looked after very well
Convenient for pre/post theatre. Nice fancy interiors, nice food at reasonable price on set menu although not wow. Would recommend.
Reservation war nicht im System
Niemand nimmt einem die Jacke ab
Die Karte ist klein und stimmt nicht überein mit OT
Dann aber netter Service
Great as always!
We had a super 3-course pre-theatre meal here. The staff were very attentive and the different types of bread given to us before the starter arrived were absolutely delicious. We ran out of time to have the hot sticky toffee pudding and so were offered alternative cold desserts which we actually preferred!
Thank you to the staff for being so accommodating. The bottles of wine are rather on the pricey side. On the plus side, this was my Mum's favourite part of the evening.
Excellent service, perfectly cooked steaks! We had a wonderful time. Thank you.
The most delicious meal, everything was perfect from the wine to the steak.......amazin!
My ratings here reflect the service and attitude of the staff. I arrived at the hotel to find the restaurant was closed, despite me having a booking thru OpenTable which was confirmed by text the day before. Despite this confusion the staff were courteous throughout and were gracious enough to give myself and my guests complimentary drinks while worked out our other options.
I will return to see if the food matches the service!
The service was discreet but very attentive and the overall quality and choice of menu was extremely good.
A delightful venue for lunch.
The meal was wonderful. The staff at the restaurant and hotel were very helpful and made our Christmas treat very very special.
Christmas decorations were the best in town.
Beautifully decorated for this time of year. Fabulous food, wonderful service, highly recommend
My husband I brought our girls, 10 and 14, to The English Grill while on vacation in London. We wanted a very nice restaurant before heading to the theater. We were not disappointed. The food was very good. The servers were attentive, although I would expect them to be, as we were some of the only customers dining that early. The ambiance and decor were stunning. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who want a classy atmosphere and dining experience.
Stunning, attentive service. Great food. Steak was superb, everything else very good. Martini served ice cold exactly as requested (olive, wet, Tanqueray 10). Effortless relaxed dining experience. Thank you.
WAY overpriced for one. And the food was mediocre at best...that’s likely being a bit generous.
My husband and I dined from the Pre-theatre menu - Two courses for £30 pp or Three courses for £35 pp. A choice of three different starters, mains and desserts is offered. Their bread basket is one of the best I've had, plenty of different breads, 2 different butters and a haddock pate. The bread basket was left on the table so we could help ourselves and we polished off the lot. I opted for the plaice main course which, with hindsight, I wish I hadn't as it was served whole so as a consequence had plenty of bones, my mistake, not theirs. Service was very friendly and attentive. We were too full to eat dessert (shouldn't have had all the bread)! An enjoyable meal but I wish that we had had more time but had to leave after an hour as we had tickets to Hamilton which is close by.
Wonderful meal and service. Was a treat! Would love to return again.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable.
Wanted something different for a date and chose this venue; well hidden but worth seeking out. The staff were excellent and attentive, the food was nom and the wine selection was wide but the waiter was on hand to advise. Will return.
The only reason I don't give this restaurant a higher rating is that it was pretty quiet at pre-theatre supper time (maybe a dozen diners?)
The set menu represented fabulous value, particular mention of the liver with Waldorf salad starter and the (gluten free) crispbread.
I will return because the overall offering was impressive.
One point I would like to make to the restaurant, the wine list was solid but, being called The English Grill, it would be marvellous to offer English wine.
Easily the best dining experience we had while in London. First class; excellent service, excellent food. Made you feel like you were the only one dining in the restaurant, despite many other tables. Absolutely perfect experience.
Great restaurant, highly recommend!
The service was some of the best ever how ever the steak was large but I think could maybe have been a little more tasty and the three times fried chips a little crispier and fluffier In the middle. It was very pricey but this would not deter as the service and the atmosphere were some of the best I have ever experienced. Will definitely be back
This was our second time at the English Grill. The service was professional and attentive, and the quality of the food was excellent. At £160 for two the bill was high, but then I had the most expensive item on the menu, the Aubrey Adams tomahawk steak, which was flavoursome, large and cooked to perfection.
We were in London for only three days and this was probably our best meal. Our waiter, Marcus, was amazing! He was so courteous and helpful and definitely enhanced our dining experience. My husband had the Kobe beef, my daughter had the chicken pot pie and I had the lamb—all were delicious and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend!
Went here for my partner's birthday before going to the theatre. Very traditional English setting - you feel special as soon as you arrive. The service was excellent and the food was superb with a great choice of wines. It really was the perfect start to our evening.
Celebratory meal for my sons 30th. The menu was extensive and the food we chose was cooked to perfection. The service was first class too.
The english grill is a bit on the posh side,. We arrived in our everyday close. However even though the waiters waited in jacket and tie, they did everything to make us feel welcome, and ignored our poor choice of close. The meat selection is really good, and they have a daily carvery cut, which was belly of pig with crackling. We also had fish of the day (tuna) and a NY strip loin. Sides were extra, but really good (spuds in goose fat), English greens, and a sauce of your choice. Wine: very good pinot. Desert: Creme Brulee which lacked the vanilla, but was otherwise good. All in alle a very good place although on the expensive side. It lacks a relaxing atmosphere, but I guess its a part of the concept, since its in at Hotel.
