The Ferry Inn
A 17th Century former smugglers haunt-- this is a pretty little pub in a lovely marshland setting with tables and benches on the front terrace and in the back alongside the riverbank.
Inside it's very easygoing and chatty. The main bar has hop-draped painted beams, a green dado, and stools against the bar where they serve a beer called Oxney Ale specially brewed for the pub by Westerham Brewery.
To the right is a cosy eating area with wheelback chairs-- ideal for a banquette with friends around a few long tables.
Went for a Sunday roast and it was great. My Dad enjoyed the beer.
As always friendly welcome great ambience and good food
We were surprised that none of the serving staff were not wearing masks and that at one point, the bar was very crowded, which in other pubs we have been to this is strictly monitored. No apparent control of social distancing.
Rather alarming and surprising, especially as there is a resurgence of the virus. However, our lunch was good and service was prompt.
Lovely friendly pub that serves good quality food.
Really lovely setting great overall experience ... thank you Ferry!
Lovely pub with excellent food. Only two serving staff on for a very busy shift but they coped well and served with a smile. Will be returning for an evening meal during our stay.
Exceptional food, very well flavoured and friendly reception
Well organised Covid precautions. Sat in garden with excellent social distancing. Great food. Good service. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
I love the Ferry Inn
Old world charm with good food.
We sat outside on a beautiful sunny afternoon and could have stayed all day
Lovely Inn and would recommend it. However the food was not as good as our last visit when it was outstanding.
Great pub. Lovely location. Great good. Friendly staff.
Good food, helpful staff. Would definitely return.
Sadly, very disappointed with the quality of the food and the price attached to it. First time visit after many years and sadly won't be returning unless a new chef appears. The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. To be specific. The scallops were cooked in what I consider to be old oil making them look dark and speckled. Whilst presentation intention was evident, the execution again just let the whole dish down and lacked flavour. The sole fillets were presented on a bed of vegetables, one being a large, char grilled but uncooked mushroom. We sat outside in the rear garden. The smell of the drains hit you as you enter the garden which his vile.
We booked a table for lunch at very short notice, just before commencing our 20 minutes journey there. Perhaps consequently we had a bit of a wait for our order to be taken, then a wait for the food etc.etc. Friday lunchtime proved to be quite popular but we had chosen to eat inside which was well spaced. It was, however, worth the wait and was delicious. Three of us chose fish and chips and the other had the seafood tagliatelle - all well cooked and nicely presented. No greasy batter on the fish, which I hate. We were well plied with drinks while we waited and they had a good selection of zero beer for the drivers and a good French savignon blanc. For dessert, which three of us could manage, there was sorbet, rum and raisin ice cream and lemon posset, all great. Our friends had never eaten at The Ferry Inn before and said they loved it.
Very limited vegetarian options on the day where the online menu stated much more. My partners lamb dish was overly fatty with minimal meat too.
Nice pub in superb setting. Lady on the bar was pretty cold, but staff in restaurant area super friendly. Food good if not amazing. Overall a nice family dinner out.
Good food and atmosphere. Pleasant staff, will be visiting again.
Overall a good meal and service - Covid protocol a bit lacking - no one way entry/exit or hand gel procedure on entry - generally distancing inside pub was non existent
Great meal especially outstanding burger. Dog friendly !
Had the seafood tagliatelle which was excellent and my wife had the chicken kebab which she also enjoyed. Service was good and the staff friendly.
Not the cheapest of the biggest menu but the food was lovely and local produce was a bonus. It was a great place to eat our first meal out since lockdown
Brilliant food, super fresh and creative gastro pub menu with plenty of choice, served hot and fresh by very friendly and unpretentious team. Super bottle of Sancerre too at great price. Excellent value all round so we would recommend to everyone and thanks to the team for a brilliant evening.
Friendly service — beautiful location. My dish of scallops never disappoints.
Lovely food although it was very noisy in the restaurant
Great food and service on what was obviously a busy night.
Once the team had got over the mad rush, they were very friendly.
Enjoyed meeting Poppy too, who took everything in her stride and was the coolest .
The scallops and devilled kidneys were mouth watering and the Guinea Fowl was delicious, ribeye steak melted in your mouth! Recommended but book to avoid disappointment (lots of customers turned away backside fully booked for lunch). Can wait to return!
Great meal as always - Staff very helpful, thank you, we'll be back!
Great location, venue and ambience. Food slightly better than average, but unfortunately the staff on the day lacked any real passion and attentiveness, which let down the experience on a whole.
This is a great location and the service was excellent. We were very impressed.
The food was very good and lots of it. The waitress was very helpful, but it was a little confusing about social distancing. It is personal opinion, but I think more should be put in place or a discussion had on entering.
My only critism would be that we sat in the back garden and although spacious. The tables and chairs needed a clean and perhaps a candle etc. I know it is very dry at the moment, but it was not very welcoming. The general space and view of the field was great.
What a lovely spot and proud to have The Ferry as my new local pub. Beer and fishnchips and steaks were excellent. Thanks for taking the minor feedback on the lemon sole...great service.
was understandably very busy as it was a "eat out to help out" evening and gorgeous weather... unfortunately we were sat inside and were the only table in an empty room, so the ambience was a bit desperate, but as my friend and I were there for a catch up, it didn't bother us. we both had halloumi burger and sweet potato fries followed by ice cream and it was delicious... really good food! and excellent value in the scheme...have booked again with the family, and will hopefully get an outside table next time.
Beautiful location, great staff, nothing is too much trouble, well worth a visit.
Excellent pub with great food. The pub was very busy, with all tables full outside. The lovely waitress was friendly, informative and helpful. The two men in our party ordered an alcohol free beer each, when she came with it she said she’d poured them half a bottle each as she only had one cold one at the time, and when the other was cold she bought it for them to share.
The food was delicious, couldn’t fault it.
Excellent food, welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff. We visited twice during our holiday and were delighted with our meals. Highly recommended - advise booking ahead as it’s very popular with locals and visitors.
We had a lovely meal sitting in the front garden area. The service was great and the staff all very nice.
We will be returning soon.
I will go again....good food in pleasurable surroundings
Excellent service and food. Good and varied menu. We are going back
The Ferry is far from being a cheap venue, but with £20 off (the government's scheme) we enjoyed a nice meal at an acceptable price.
Fantastic pub great food
