No table at the inn.
Booked a table for last night on OT and it was confirmed. OK it was short notice but so are a lot of (my) bookings and it wasn't for the last "available" slot.
Took a taxi to The Fishes only to find it closed. Staff dressed as Santa's helpers did not acknowledge our presence merely gave us a look that said "you shouldn't be here".
It was just as well our cab hadn't turned round and we were able to get a ride into town or we would have been left freezing in their car park.
If they're going to close early could they please not take bookings.
Not happy and won't book again.
Good, friendly service, food and ambiance and they allow dogs on the bar! Sunday papers are a bonus.
Good menu with plenty of choice. Excellent service.
Great service! Delicious food, kindly and lovely people (staff) . Will come back again
Great food, service was to a high level, attentive but unobtrusive. A lovely place to eat
The new menu is excellent.
Excellent food and service - as always. Never fails to deliver
Lovely Sunday roast with just enough food to make me happy. Excellent service and wonderful setting.
Staff are lovely and the food is very tasty, overall a very good pub.
Excellent service from our bright young waiter. I had the fresh lobster which was delicious and my husband enjoyed the chicken and ham pie. We always enjoy this restaurant.
Was fairly busy, staff nice and friendly but service quite slow, food ok, perfectly acceptable but not ‘special occasion’ worthy
Very nice homemade treacle tart and I enjoyed the veggie platter also. The others also liked their meals.
Lovely lunch with a good menu and served attractively
Had an amazing time at The Fishes! Some friends visited from London and this was the perfect place to take them. Service was really good and the staff was very nice and helpful. Weather was great so we got a table at the balcony. The view over the garden is brilliant and afterwards we went for a stroll as the place was some nice footpaths. Definitely a place to go!
As a 'Peaches' pub the Fishes has always reliably provided excellent food and sparkling service. Not any more. The food was positively mediocre and the service, while efficient, lacked its usual sparkle. What a shame.
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and good food. My feedback was for them to have more detail on the menu to avoid surprise ingredients to the diner.
Nice restaurant with good menu variations and special "daily offers", high quality of food and kindly service, as well the Ambiente of the restaurant is very nice, it´s worthwhile to make a detour
Great quality food and and amazing service. Our Sunday roast was very filling and couldn’t fault anything.
Great spot for a relaxed lunch with friends. The food was good and arrived quickly and the service was grown up helpful rather than formulaic over polite - we really enjoyed it.
The service was really bad. We had to ask for someone to take our order; we were not offered the specials; we were not offered dessert. General lack of interest and apathy. Food mediocre and menu very unexciting. Really need to up their game. Very poor and will not return ever.
We visited for Sunday lunch. The food itself was ok. Average - nothing special. Asked for roast beef pink and it was well done. The veg with it and potatoes were cold (we also waited 2hrs from sitting down to receiving main meal!!!). The apple crumble was mushy rather than crispy and crumbly. Service was extremely slow...
We sat at one of the bar tables, unfortunately very noisy. Waitress was very busy so service was slow. Food was great. Will definitely go back and hopefully sit at a proper table next time!
Excellent food, service and location. Highly recommend for the value.
Thank you for the delicious lamb shank....Lovely friendly service too.
As always staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was great. Definitely recommend booking here as it gets busy. Great choice of food and it was delicious.
Went for Sunday lunch with family including two children. We were accommodated at a nice table and children catered for well. Even though their meals were generous, we only paid half price for them. The food was very good and service friendly and reasonably efficient considering the restaurant was very busy. We all enjoyed our lunch.
Always a good experience!
we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with friends. Great meal with outstanding service. Didn't mention our anniversary but when they discovered it, four glasses of bubbly appeared - lovely touch. I use the Fishes for business meetings/lunches and it's first rate in every respect.
Beautiful place great food and delightful service -must be really glorious outside too in Summer -coming back then, if not before, though not a local, but it is very close to Oxford you need a car or taxi but easy to find a parking space for weekday lunch though may be harder peak times of day in Summer,
great weekday menu deals too, made it exceptional value!
Atmospheric village pub, very cosy and lovely food. Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was in general very good, although a bit over-priced. Overall a lovely place in summer or winter!
Had to wait 20 minutes past booking time for our table to be ready (restaurant very busy with Christmas parties) but everything else was great. Friendly efficient staff and the excellent quality food was cooked to perfection. Set Christmas menu option reasonably priced with a good selection. Good range of drinks all fairly priced.
Good service. Young staff coped cheerfully in a very busy pub and restaurant. Made a happy family occasion. Highly recommended.
Excellent food, attentive service, felt valued, servings were generous. Time between courses felt perfect. I would recommend and will be going again.
Almost everything I wanted to order off the menu was not available including a salad and this on a Tuesday evening at 8pm. The waitress was embarrassed and did offer a free dessert. The food was poor and expensive for what it was and two pints of lemonade with a squirt of lime cordial was almost £9.00. This restaurant used to be good but I would not recommend it.
Always a pretty place and great service but this time they lacked some stuff on the menu and the sole was incredibly small, bony and dull.
Disappointing food experience. Soup special for the day tasted stale, the fish cake was dry and hard and better suited as a ball, the hamburger was OK except for an over-compacted patty. The skinny fries were the only memorable (side) dish.
Great food and good value fixed price menu at lunchtime. A beautiful setting with lots of outdoor seating,
The restaurant was very busy and the service was slow to start with. We actually had to go and get our own water even though we’d been told it was coming. The food certainly was very tasty, I had the salmon with chilli (Sunday special) while others went for the roast dinners. No complaints there at all. I had the cheesecake for dessert which had a lovely summer fruit topping, but the base was a bit hard to break.
The atmosphere was very good and it was nice that the children could wander outside and explore between courses.
Overall it was a pleasant dining experience and we shall be returning soon.
Will definitely be returning, lovely setting, friendly service.
Walked out after being patronised and feeling like we were in the way
The food (Sunday roast) was a bit cold, and we waited 1:30hrs for our food to arrive. Luckily we were not starving and children had iPads to entertain themselves.
