we enjoyed a delightful lunch prior to our visit to Waddeston Manor Xmas fair. The service, food, ambience and surroundings were lovely. We will definitely return for another visit.

Oh dear, such a disappointment. We traditionally visit The Five Arrows with friends for a pre-Christmas lunch. This may have to be our last visit.
We were seated at our chosen table, only to subsequently find that the table had been set on top of food residue from a previous meal. We pointed this out to the waitress, who rather than check and clean the whole table just applied furniture polish (!) to one small area where the serviette had 'glued' itself to the food residue. We then had to ask twice for a replacement serviette!
We requested the Xmas set lunch menu. The advertised mushroom soup had been replaced with a thin, lukewarm and tasteless alternative. The traditional turkey main course was very poor, with what appeared to be semi-processed circular cuts of meat, very dry and lacking flavour. The vegetables and sauce were minimal and the roast potatoes must have been cooked the previous day as they were almost impossible to cut with a knife. The apple and raspberry crumble dessert (with custard) was however very nice.
The wine was also excellent, but you would expect that from a Rothschild vineyard! Service was slow. The restaurant was not full, so one wonders whether there was an undisclosed kitchen problem which was causing the poor food quality.

Had to wait a very long time despite pre-booking. Seemed to have too little staff for the amount of people they had in their restaurant. Sandwiches for afternoon tea quite disappointing, cakes were nice.

They kept us waiting for over half an hour to be seated. The service then proceeded very slowly. The food courses eventually arrived quite quickly after one another but the quality was poor compared with previous years. The coffee took an age and we got fed up of waiting to pay and went to the bar to pay.
Far too few staff although the ones there tried very hard.

Arranged birthday lunch prior to a visit to Waddesdon Manor. Ate in the bar, although tables were available in the restaurant. Service a bit slow at first but improved quickly (particularly after recieving surprise complimentary prosecco from the restaurant manager! A lovely gesture) . Our second time there and it didnt disappoint.

I had the pork and chorizo pie which was tasteless and made me quite ill actually. The meal was hot and beautifully presented, the staff were friendly but it was difficult to get anyones attention. The décor was smart and chairs were comfortable. They still haven't got it quite right in there, not sure why??

We had the Christmas menu for lunch and were terribly disappointed. The turkey was tasteless and tasted like turkey roll. The roast potatoes were rockhard and inedible, the same with the sprouts. The crumble for dessert had rockhard lumpy bits in it and again inedible. This menu was not cheap and very poorly cooked. We will not be returning.

My wife and her daughter meet occasionally at the FIVE ARROWS as it is halfway between where they both live.
It has changed hands since their last visit and the menu also has changed and sadly there is no longer a lunchtime menu. The service was first class but the food was very very disappointing. My wife had the Kedgeree which for £8.00 she didn't feel was good value for money, in fact it was very dry but the poached egg was nice and runny. For mains she had the oven baked cod, when it arrived it looked very anaemic (the cod had no colour at all, it looked almost raw) and there was a smell of ammonia. After tasting she felt from the texture and look that it was under cooked and asked for it to go under the grill for a few more minutes. Sadly it didn't improve.
They probably won't meet there for lunch again....

A perfect breakfast ruined by poor service. I booked the table for 10am for myself and friends visiting Waddesdon Manor Christmas Fair which opened at 11am. The booking was taken for 10am but unbeknown by me they finished breakfast at 10. The food was of a very high standard but staff failed to inform us of the buffet table and then started to clear things away before we could use it. When asked they brought back some bread, butter and preserves for toast but after waiting for ages realised the toaster had been turned off! Cooked breakfast was very nice but very expensive for what it was. The bill included service charge which we felt they did not earn. When asking for the bill I was abruptly told to ‘wait here’ instead of them coming to the table. Lovely place, disappointing service so I would neither return or recommend.

On a very cold late November afternoon my husband and I plus our cocker spaniel had the most wonderful meal of fish and chips sat in the cosy bar with a log fire to warm us. The fish was sublime- this was no ordinary fish and chips. Fabulous portions and lovely staff. We will return.

Disappointing! A lovely venue and setting in the picturesque village of Waddesdon and next door to the beautiful Waddesdon Manor. Having not visited the restaurant for some time, I thought it would be an ideal venue to celebrate my husband's birthday. However, we found the walk from the car park badly lit and poorly signposted, the service less than perfect ( we hung up our own coats and no-one opened the door or said goodbye when we left!) and the food selection limited and quality only average. I think my score of '3' fairly generous.

We wanted to try the afternoon tea with the idea of booking in the new year for a party. First it was impossible to get through by phone and then I booked online saying I wanted to talk to someone but no one showed up. The service was terrible. We arrived yet it took a while for someone to a least acknowledge us even though staff were around. We ordered then when the afternoon tea arrived we had to ask for plates. The food was ok but I have had far better. Not once did the staff come over to us and ask if everything was ok or if we wanted more tea. We also waited ages when we finished for the staff to remove our plates. No one came over. We got tired of waiting and we had to find someone to ask for the bill. As we paid no one asked if we enjoyed the tea and they were abrupt when I questioned the service charge. Will not be returning. Very disappointed

First time eating here, having been recommended to try it, when I had a poor (but expensive) steak elsewhere.
Wow, I wasn’t disappointed- the steak was one of the best I recall having, with a lovely glass of Rioja Crianza.
Service was spot on, with all the staff being very warm and welcoming.
Highly recommend- will be returning!

The food was good, not great. My carrots were burnt and the roast patatos had been cooked a while ago and kept warm so they were chewy. The service was PAINFULLY slow; one hour before our mains arrived! The fish was well cooked and the deserts delicious they just obviously couldn't cope with a fully packed dining room...

VERY slow service and I felt I had to do all the work with the waitress so seemed to make every suggestion/comment I made difficult.
The salmon sandwiches were a JOKE - One inch thick slices of tough rye bread for what was supposed to be a genteel teat time sandwich. Nothing had been done to make them attractive or tasty. I had to dismantle them in order to eat them and then smother them with black pepper.
For such a place with such high pretensions it was beyond belief. Maybe the manager could call me. He can find my number from my booking.
