The Fleece Inn
Wonderful food, beer and service in great surroundings. A delightful time had by all of us.
Everyone must try the Fleece at least once in their lifetime. Such an interesting history, coupled with an original interior, excellent beer and food and well trained staff. It must rank in the top five pubs in the country.
This is a wonderful place. In terms of the building and furniture it's like stepping back in time. The
menu reflects the times with Vegan and Gluten Free available. The food is delicious and attractively presented. The staff are friendly and helpful. What more could anyone want. I have already recommended
The Fleece in to people and will definitely go there again.
We dined on a busy Saturday night when they had a function on as well. So really delighted to report that the service was quicker than we would ever had expected. All staff were helpful and smiley. Food was delicious and helpings generous.
An all round good experience
A secluded, ancient hostelry, that we were drawn to as we are NationalTrust members. Arriving for lunch, there were roaring log fires to add to the warm welcome from the team. We shared an oozing, baked Camembert and a local steak and ale pie. All delicious and well presented, a small reservation was there was a lot of salt on the potato fries. This will not stop us returning!
Enjoyed it just had to go to bar for top up drinks as we were dry lol
This was the second time I took my friends/family to The Fleece. My first experience back in May was exceptional. However, my most recent one this week was a little disappointing.
We arrived for our booked table at 1.30pm only to be told that there were people still dining and that we would have to wait until they had finished. They finally left 20 minutes later. There were other, unreserved tables available but we were not re-directed to one.
Our meal was okay although my partner stated that his sirloin steak was rather mediocre. The rest of us had steak and ale pie, which was delicious. I would have preferred some alternative veg, though, as I hate mushy peas. There was no mash either which was disappointing.
The service was from the barman was very good but the waitress seemed to have difficulty understanding some of the English language and wasn't all that helpful or accommodating. In addition, we felt hurried to eat our meal as they stop serving food at 2.30pm. We were left thinking we had to vacate the pup by 3pm as nobody told us whether or not we could stay and relax afterwards. The website indicated that the pup was open all day from 11am to 11pm.
All a bit different to my first experience, where both the service and the food was outstanding.
I wouldn't hesitate to visit again as I love the rustic charm of this historic pub, but my partner and friends were less impressed, sadly.
It was a very busy lunch time compared with my previous visit which meant that car park space also posed a problem.
A memorable meal- th efood was utterly delicious and lots f choice. Reasonably priced, lovely staff. The Inn itself is a haven of wood fire oak beam antiquity- wanted to stay forever ; but would be size of house with the fantastic menus. Thoroughly enjoyable
Lovely food, quirky building and very friendly staff.
I am so sorry to have to give you a low rating but am a firm believer in being honest to enable you to have the opportunity if you wish to make some changes . The service and staff was excellent staff, were very friendly and efficient.
However, whilst the steak and Ale pie was lovely the chips and peas weren’t as good.
I ordered the roast beef dinner and it was served on a cold plate. The beef wasn’t tender, the roast potatoes seemed like they were frozen before they were cooked ? and the vegetables were so hard I had difficulty cutting through them with my knife.
I booked the table for me, my husband and two friends because the pub itself is beautiful and full of character. However, I’m very sorry to have to tell you we all felt very disappointed with our meals.
A really interesting place to visit. Owned by the National Trust. Have to say not the most comfortable place to sit as they have used original chairs/tables but does add to the history of the building.
We were there for the Nigel night with over 400 other Nigel's. Given that we had booked a table and the food and service was superb. Great night thank you.
Attended on their Nigel Night when there were probably nigh on 1,000 people there. The service was excellent, the food superb with great portion size and the atmosphere was really friendly. The landlord took the bother to come around to the tables to introduce himself and check that we were enjoying the experience. Although a fair distance to travel we consider it well worthwhile going back and I recommend it to all.
This is a lovely old place with so much character. Food is wonderful and the staff are so friendly, would recommend a visit, but book a table as it’s very popular
We had a lovely time at 'Nigel Night' and although we live 45 mins away will return, hopefully the weather will be better then so we can appreciate our surroundings...
Even with the unprecedented Nigel Night event taking place, the food was amazing, presented well and served piping hot. The Onion Rings were outstanding and the best I have ever tasted. The Tomato Soup was homemade and really tasty. Once you see and taste the pies you can understand why they are award winning. We will definitely be returning again.
Visited the fleece as part of nigels night, but booked a table prior to the nights events . The pub is a fantastic historic building with its low ceilings and creaky floors, it all helps creates a fantastic ambience. The staff are very friendly and very welcoming and we found the food to be of a very good quality. We would not hesitate to recommend the fleece to others ...go on give it a go .
Great place. Very well preserved character pub. Well done to all the team.
Quaint pub with good dining options
Had a happy and friendly evening with friends staff and locals
Wonderful place great food great staff
Beautiful setting, excellent food. A memorable Sunday lunch for all the good reasons. Staff were friendly and allowed us to explore the ground and the barn. Thank you.
beers selection is good menu a little limited but ok. service good and atmosphere good. would have liked to go into the the garden area at rear but surface of entrance is difficult with wheel chair, not impossible but difficult. food very good.
Lovely evening with good friend. Table a bit wobbly lol
Good wholesome food in a superb environment. I come here whenever I can (over 600 mile round trip!)
Locally sourced veg so well cooked and now a good range of beers to add.
Great food and drink in a beautiful medieval pub; what could be better
Friendly team, accordions playing in the background, excellent food (with veggie and gluten free options), and the inimitable pub in itself. Love it.
Excellent service from the staff friendly and efficient. Food of high Guaita and generous portions. Proper traditional pub food with a twist.
The Fleece is quirky pub with few straight lines but all the more attractive for all that. The food was excellent, in particular the pie was award winning. The staff were very friendly. We'll definitely go back.
Well where do i start.... We booked a table of 8 4 adults and 4 children. Food was very average. The one son is a vegetarian and we phoned to ask if the Worcs sauce contained anything and was assured it didn't contain any meat or fish extracts. However on the evening we questioned this again to be told it did contain fish extracts.
I can go on about minor incidents which can be seen to be well that's our view but my main concern was the following:
One of the members of staff was rude, forgetful, not walking in a straight line and quite threatening when she just stood against our table and just stared for about 5 seconds before talking. We then became quite aware of this as we had 4 youngsters with us and it became clearly evident that this member of staff was on some of drug!! I made a comment saying its busy in here tonight to which the reply was' It's always f....ing busy in here'.
I must say i'm not one for putting posts on social media etc but this is a disgrace when the landlords of this lovely pub must be aware of!!!!! I welcome your feedback!
Dear Mark, thank you for taking the time to write and we are most concerned to hear of your experience, which obviously fell short of our usual standards. We will contact you directly to discuss further, Thanks again for your feedback, Nigel Smith, Landlord
A delightful place and excellent food. Highly recommended.
We love The Fleece for a quiet drink and a family meal. It may be a little uncomfortable for some, maybe elderly people with some mobility difficulties but this is only due to the traditional nature of the interior.
The food is consistently good, pies especially, staff very friendly and the ales are never off form and rotated regularly.
Attentive staff, food served fast but obviously also very fresh. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a great country pub with traditional food and drink
Was a great experience with 5 stars food! highly recommended.
Stunning place with tons of character and history. Friendly staff and locals and great service. Add to all of this the fact the food is delicious and ale is wonderful and you have the total package. Brilliant!
Unique historic pub that’s well worth the trip. We’ll be going back
Th Fleece Inn is in a very attractive village and the inn itself is charmingly old, with a large garden. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was Ok but not as special as we had hoped.
The first poor experience we've ever had at the Fleece. We weren't told what wasn't available when we ordered then the roast dinner was very ordinary. Delicious meat but the rest was poor. Very sad veg, potatoes and yorkies. The vegan pie was also well below the usual standard. Got a discount on the bill but still left very disappointed.
Lovely meal, friendly staff very enjoyable will be going back soon.
Lovely service, great beers and delicious Sunday roast
Amazing old place, bursting with history and tradition, lovely staff and excellent food, love the place
