Lovely setting, with a great atmosphere - dog and child friendly. Food was OK, both the plant based and meat burger were a bit dry but we loved the camembert starter. I would definitely go back and try more from the menu. I've had a roast there before and that was lovely.
Together with friends we use this pub regularly and are never disappointed.
When we booked our lunch with friends, we asked for a table in the garden. Assuming that the pub team had had 15 months or so to get the garden up to scratch and looking worthy of being a National Trust property and having a recommendation from Alastair Sawdays, we were quite shocked to find a tatty garden with old and grubby gazebos providing shade and old fashioned garden furniture providing the seating.
The food wasn’t bad but wouldn’t bother to revisit.
The setting is very pretty and the pub has been very clever creating novel ways to seat people apart from other groups i.e. Little secluded arrangements inside horse boxes. The food was pleasing but not outstanding, although we only ate starters and pudding. The staff were very friendly and made us a salad although it wasn’t on the menu.
Absolutely beautiful food , great portion and well served , will be going back here again soon . Highly recommend
Great lunch with the family on the occasion of my mother-in-law’s birthday. Main courses good, as usual. However, let down by the desserts. Two of us had the chocolate cremeaux, but the rhubarb and ginger crumble advertised on the menu was absent; also, the strawberry parfait was served on a piece of slate, which was impractical as the compote ran-off and stained my wife’s dress!
Service good, but didn’t feel our complaints about the deserts were listened to.
Irrespective of the issues we had, we will be back (and would recommend to others)!
Delicious and well presented Sunday lunch with friends. Beautiful surroundings with lots of shaded dining areas. Staff very good and working hard in the heat. Would definitely recommend a visit.
The steak pie is absolutely amazing, the best I’ve ever had!
Having seen good reviews online of The Fleece for gluten-free food I was looking forward to dining there whilst on holiday. Being a coeliac it is a joy to see a menu that has numerous dishes to choose from. My husband and I both chose roasts and I informed the waiting staff that I was coeliac so needed gluten free. The meals arrived and I was reassured that the Yorkshire pudding was missing as I knew it wasn’t gluten free. My husbands meal had an item
missing and the waitress fetched it for him. A little way into my meal I found i lump of stuffing which rang alarm bells as it is usually not gluten free. When checking with the kitchen I was told that they were sorry but it shouldn’t have been on my meal. As I had not eaten anywhere near there a replacement plate arrived. This time the cauliflower cheese was missing too, on checking I was told that had gluten in it. I had already eaten some from my original plate. At this point a member of staff came over and apologised to both myself for and my husband for the error. Our meals were left untouched and the bill was cancelled.
Being coeliac is not a lifestyle choice it is an autoimmune condition which means that when you eat even a small amount of gluten your body starts attacking itself and you become unwell quite quickly. If you do eat here and are gf please double check your food and don’t be reassured by the previous reviews. The member of staff did say they would talk to the kitchen.
Excellent as always. I have been many times and never disappointed.
Had light lunch with friends - two different sharing boards, but full menu available. Excellent food which came promptly, and good service. Very hot and sunny, so were under the canvas shelter - not as nice as in the open air in the orchard. Recommended
Food amazing. The staff were fantastic. The pub is brilliant and the beer garden is fabulous. Took family that have never been before and they loved it.
Very enjoyable meal, food very good and staff very accommodating
Great food, lovely place. Service just a bit slow and couldn't get a bill for love or money!!
Always a pleasure to stay and eat at the Fleece, probably one of the best little pubs in England
Great meals as usual. Chocolate creameaux dessert was delicious :)
The staff were friendly, the outdoor seating was really lovely, and the food was good. Overall a really good place to spend a Friday night.
Nice to dine outside in the orchard, would sit there post covid.
Ideal place to catch up with friends for lunch. Plenty of outside seating with undercover options. Friendly service and delicious food. Drinks a little pricy, however wouldn’t stop me visiting again.
Great place to eat whether inside or out in the garden where there are interesting table options! Beatiful setting - a real pleasure.
A beautiful old pub where we sat in a horse box! Local silver band practising in the orchard and folk musicians playing in a tent.
Excellent pie and chips!
Outstanding al fresco dining experience located in picturesque village
This is a great little pub - definitely recommended. The food was a bit pricey but was really tasty and well presented. One thing though - why do restaurants insist on serving salads in soup bowls? A plate would make much more sense.
Nice place and lovely food. Cost was what you would expect.
Beautiful pub lovely to see the Morris dancers. But. The food was poor value for money and the food didnt fit the description on the menu. If I order fried chicken breast I don't expect it covered in onions and gravy.! Portion size was too small. My partners mashed potato was so small he almost missed it. We were disappointed as we had come on recommendation.
However the desserts were nice but small and my chips were lovely.
Food was amazing and good selection of local beers. Unfortunately service was slow and we were forgotten a few times, having to chase for our meals and drinks. We also requested a table outside when we booked but we’re seated inside where there was no atmosphere
Excellent food at reasonable prices. Staff helpful.
Fantastic pub! We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and come here regularly to eat. Great choice of food and drinks. Brilliant staff and the most lovely setting. Go and treat yourself to a proper pub lunch/dinnerz
Excellent service and well priced food. Good and drink delivered very quickly
Had a great meal Saturday evening. (4 of us). We all chose the Cotswold pies and we couldn’t have hoped for more delicious pies- packed full of meat. The starters were also good- beetroot mushrooms & poached egg on toast.
Obviously the setting is exceptionally pretty - lovely garden, orchard - the horse boxes with seating and heaters are also a great idea if the weathers being unpredictable. Will definitely be going back to the Fleece soon.
Good service and lovely garden as usual. The meat, however, in the steak and ale pie was tough and overcooked. It seemed to have been casseroled and then cooked again in the pie.
Poor especially as three of the party had this dish. The pizza was reasonable.
All the food looked great.
The pies delicious and the wood fired pizzas were also excellent .
This pub is quirky with a great ambience well worth visiting.
Great- and unexpectedly wonderful discovery of good place for gluten free sticky toffee pudding !
Beautiful pub, with amazing surroundings. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, the chicken and ham pies were incredible! Will definitely visit again. Thank you.
Fabbbbb uuuu lous!! The perfect quintessential English evening pub meal.
A classic car outside, a small wedding reception, a brass band playing in the garden, perfect real ale and award winning pies.........what else could you ask for??!!!
We WILL be back!
Lovely old pub, with rustic interior and great out door space. Very good food selection, catering for a variety of dietary requirements. Friendly service. Would recommend
So much trouble has been taken to comply with Covid restrictions without spoiling the ambience of this lovely place.
Really lovely meal, very good value. Pleased that we booked ahead .
Good food let down by poor service. Pub was not busy but waited 45 mins for food. Mains not cleared for 45 mins after we had finished. We had to find a member of staff to order more drinks and dessert, Disappointing as we were there for a birthday celebration. Draught beer was also flat. The used to be a great pub was has happened here?
This is a fabulous venue to eat in but you need to book early to get a place inside. There were a choice of outside including converted horse boxes which we had have chosen had we known! We’ve been coming here for years when we visit the area. Great atmospheric pub!!
