The Fleece Witney
We also have a private dining room for meetings or parties & 10 comfortable en suite bedrooms.
Really enjoyed the evening. Buzzy pub with tasty and simple food, good drinks and very good service. Boxes ticked!
Mussels and chips were ok, not the best I have had and not the worse.
They even gave us extra yorkshire pud and potatoes! Definitely recommend!
Whilst the service was a little slow, the food was awesome.... the pan fried cod with puy lentils and salsa verde was outstanding. This is a regular, friendly place for Saturday lunch and will continue to recommend it to friends.
A very good place to enjoy a celebratory meal with someone special.
An excellent lunchtime meal. The service was good, very friendly and efficient. My husband ordered the slow cooked lamb shank with mash and kale, he said it was delicious. I ordered the vegetarian option, being a vegetarian myself, and was slightly disappointed by the dish, except for the polenta chips which were superb. This dish was sweet potato lasagne, but was a mixture of sloppy chopped tomatos, could not taste the sweet potato. As more and more of the public are choosing to be vegetarians/vegan, the menu choice is very narrow for us. Overall a pleasant experience and will be visiting again.
Regular eating house for reliable food service and value
Great food and venue. Incompetent service and mucky environment.
Sadly found this visit to Fleece disappointing. Food not of standard to match price and music uncomfortably loud. have
However staff lovely
Very slow service. Steak had to be sent back, very chewy and the replacement wasn’t any better. Ordered dessert but got so fed up waiting for it that we left.
Lovely yummy Sunday lunch with all the trimmings, loved the extra touch of being offered extra roast potatoes, Yorkshire and gravy. Look forward to our next visit.
Food always good but service can be very slow so not a place for a quick lunch
Lovely relaxing sunday lunch with family.... a roast lunch all round including a veggie option which was a little unusual but delicious. We were offered additional Yorkshire puddings and gravy which was very thoughtful. Lovely lunch - we go regularly.
A lovely meal with a thriving atmosphere. Just a little confusion with starters and mains which was sorted.
Excelllent Mothering Sunday roast lunch with friendly prompt service
Our waiter, Mike, was terrific and very knowledgable of the menu. He made honest, genuine suggestions when we asked questions about our menu choices. The main course was delicious, but I was a little disappointed with my dessert. The winter fruit accompaniment was excellent, but I found the pavlova itself, very dry and powdery. It would not, however, prevent me from dining again at the Fleece.
Service was very slow and when we finally got offered dessert there was very little choice left which the waitress failed to mention when leaving us the dessert menu to choose from
This restaurant has a great atmosphere which is evident as soon as you walk through the door. Staff were attentive, efficient and helpful. A really good menu with a special board too. Two of our group shared a platter for starters which looked and apparently tasted delicious - they weren't sharing it with anyone else ! The mains were delivered to the table hot as they should be and were delicious.Only one desert - sticky toffee pudding which went down well an I had the smidgeon of cheese that was the perfect end to a thoroughly good meal. I would highly recommend The Fleece
Meet up with a friend after Christmas. Lovely lunch. Decent service and a lovely place to meet. Would recommend
Always a lovely atmosphere and very good food with a varied menu to choose from as well as a great specials board. Friendly staff and in a relaxing space. If we're having a quiet celebration with just a few of us it tends to be our restaurant of choice. They have good offers throughout the year if you sign up to their emails too.
We regularly plan a Saturday shopping followed by a nice relaxing lunch afterwards in Witney.... we love going to the Fleece as the menu is always seasonal and high quality and there's usually something interesting on the specials board. My husband had lamb and I had a fish board. The boards have changed somewhat since I last had one so not what I was expecting so I can only say it was more like 4 tapas dishes - nice but I wouldn't order one again. Excellent waitress and good ambience as always.
Once again very good food, and service, however we were located in the bar area which was very noisy, quite disappointing.
Great location and the staff are all very friendly and attentive. The food and the quality of drinks available at the bar were superb. Highly recommended.
Scallops were over cooked , and as for my main , I had bellypork and it was vile . They didn’t charge for the main .
We decided at the last minute to pop over for Sunday lunch. The menu gave a good selection of options - the meat was delicious and came with huge Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy. It was delightful with the only critiscism (if I have to find one!) being the size of the sides being quite small. Will definitely go back.
Great meal & drink
We haven't been to the Fleece for a while and decided to drop in on Saturday. It seems like in the past year, the staff have changed alot (not one person there we recognised) and the place seemed a little empty and a little flat on the ambience front. The food was lovely - my husband had the beef and I had the mac&cheese starter portion which was plenty big enough for a light lunch. Nice, nothing to fault just a little lifeless....
Excellent friendly service and good food. Even brought around extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings in case anyone wanted more
Four of us had Burgers, the toasted buns on all of them were very burnt.
The overall quality of the food was poor, at a premium price.
Good service for Sunday lunch. Early 12 booking was good as large party arrived later and made conversation very difficult.
Good ok, but not up to normal exceptional standard. Beef was tough. Range of starters getting limited.
We are regulars at the Fleece but we were very disappointed on 26th August. The service was haphazard. We ordered a rocket & parmesan salad but a peculiar mixture of green leaves, raw carrot chunks and peas was 'dumped' on the table without explanation. When I questioned, I was told the chef had run out of rocket but would go out and get some. Also that they had run out of triple cooked chips.
We did receive a deduction from the bill but no real apologies.
I completed a feedback card but have heard nothing from the Fleece.
Perhaps they don't value their regular customers?
Nice and easy, no pressure to rush which is exactly what you want when you are having a friends catch up.
There is a good choice of food and the staff are friendly. Happy Hour is great too.
Fabulous, the food, staff and ambience are great, love it here. Highly recommended
Both food and service excellent. The fixed price lunch menu is very good value and we enjoyed a delicious meal.
Met at The Fleece for Sunday lunch. Table booked for 12.15 which is ideal before it gets too busy. Excellent Sunday lunch and service.
We enjoyed our lunch and the food and service was good. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant area which is comfortably furnished. Only criticism was that the white wine we ordered was not chilled enough.
Uncrowded, good service and enjoyable food. Just what was needed.
