The Footman - Mayfair
Great pub, friendly staff and nice food the Footman is a great choice.
The food was good but overpriced.
Despite a dining room upstairs we were seated in the pub bar with two small round tables and sitting on stools.
Not exactly what we were after.
But all being said the food was good quality and very tasty but I suspect there is better available from other venues which offer far more comfortable environments.
Alphie was amazing. Really helpful in suggesting food and beverages. Thanks Alphie!
The food was excellent, but seating and service were confusing. Noone was at the second floor restaurant when I arrived, and after waiting a few minutes I had to go ask the bartender what was up. He was able to find the wait staff and get me seated and from then on everything went smoothly.
Great London Pub in Mayfair area. Very friendly staff, excellent service and food.
Everything was perfect. Great pub 😊
Very convenient and good food. Restaurant was quite quiet but only one waitress still managed well.
Very ordinary food. Poor presentation. Next time I’ll go to a regular pub instead.
Hi there and thank you for the review. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with us however you haven't given us any inclination as to why you have reviewed us the way you have. We take feedback very seriously in our quest to continuously improve so if you wish to discuss your visit further please do get in touch. Best regards, Chris Willsmer General Manager
Food was very good and our meals were served quickly, which was great as we were on a lunch break with limited time. Beers looked interesting but it was a school day, so lime & sodas all round! Friendly staff. Only downside was the noise from roadworks outside but the staff did their best to keep doors closed.
Great food good service .........................................................................
Excellent staff especially from the Spanish waitress whose name unfortunately I did not get
I meta friend for lunch in this Mayfair pub having checked out the menu online. The staff were welcoming and highly attentive. The steak and mushroom pie with mash was delicious. We even managed the chocolate pot with blood orange sorbet for dessert.
Good food and wine, good service, reasonable price, despite being in Mayfair, low noise level because we were at the first floor (down on the ground floor, was the usual noise of a British Pub!!) Nothing really to complain about.
Good traditional pub food, quality and atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side but worth it
Service was a bit lacking - quite a curt attitude and when our waitress served our drinks she was on the phone and just slammed the drinks down! Food arrived quickly though and was of good quality but the service has definitely gone down hill since it first opened. It used to feel like a local pub but now a faceless London pub approach
Hi there, many thanks for the review and the feedback. We certainly never expect to offer curt attitude & service so I apologise if you found this on your visit. Again we also encourage our staff to engage and converse with our guests as we look to maintain the high standards that The Footman should always offer. I hope you'll return, when i would be delighted to show you that myself and our team are passionate and driven to provide excellent service at all times. Kind regards, Chris Willsmer
Thursday night at 7pm, they were four-deep to the outside beer counter, with a roped line to go in the pub. We bypassed the crowd, and went directly upstairs for our reservation. Very beautiful, traditional dining room - cocktails arrived, and we enjoyed looking at the various dinner options. The chef did not disappoint. We were very pleased with the meal - better than many, even in Mayfair. We will return.
Amazing food, but if the restaurant upstairs is closed they sit you downstairs amongst the drinkers and the noise can detract from your meal.
The food was of excellent quality here, as was the service. However, portions tended to be on the small side, and although those of our party who ordered fish as a main had ample vegetables with it, those who chose a meat option were disappointed to find a mere garnish on top - the menu was distinctly misleading!
It was not always easy to conduct our own conversation, as there were two large tables in the room occupied by very noisy men (perhaps "hedge fund" Xmas lunches?). Indeed, our two ladies appeared to be practically the only ones of their own gender in the building. Is THE FOOTMAN mainly a "laddish" destination?
If I booked here again, I would certainly enquire whether large male parties were likely to occupy the same room!
bread didnt come with the soup, veg didnt come with the mains
They ran out of all roast dishes after 15 mins of our arrival, and we had made a reservation so it was not a surprise last minute reservation.
Visited for the 2nd time in December 2018. Booked a table, solely for their fantastic fish'n'chips. Didn't know that we booked for the upstairs restaurant part, and they did not have fish'n'chips on the menu. No problem; they fixed us up with the traditional pub grub and a pint of bitter for dad.
Friday at 6 pm is noisy on ground floor, but 1st floor had a calm atmosphere.
Extremely friendly and pleasant waitress and the best Fish'n'chips we've tasted. I'm sure the a la carte menu dishes ar pleasant too! Promise to check them out the next time around!
Hi there and thanks so much for the kind review! We pride ourselves on our fish & chips which like all our menu comes in fresh every day so i'm really glad you enjoyed. We also change the rest of our menu with the seasons so be sure to try us again soon! Best, Chris
Sunday lunch for 4 people - best menu and value that I found for the area in my online search. We had the place to ourselves to begin with which was great as my Mother hates loud restaurants and when two other tables joined it was still fine until one gentleman kept playing loud videos on his phone - seriously?! It was towards the end of our meal so we didn't say anything but was very annoying. There was a cosy fire lit.
The starters were great (especially the braised pork with crackling, fried quails egg & celeriac puree), main of roast beef was ok, chicken was a bit pink, table next to us had to send theirs back. Puddings took quite a while to arrive and when it did my ice cream was nearly all melted on the plate.
I don't think the waitress had much experience but she was very nice. She tried to take away our starter plates when my Mother was still eating so I had to ask her to wait. I had to ask for horseradish (strange as normally comes with roast beef) which took about 10 min to arrive.
It was average so probably wouldn't go there again but it has the potential to be very good.
Hi there and many thanks for the review. It's great to hear that you chose to come to The Footman although i am sorry that your experience weren't befitting of our usual high standards. We have changed some of the ways we serve our roast dinners and train our newer members of staff in an aim to offer a more consistent approach. If you ever do decide to return please let me know so i can look after your table and show you the high standard that The Footman usually operates at. Best, Chris
Lovely venue and beautiful restaurant area. Service was absolutely first rate, with a knowledgable and friendly team. Sunday roast was tasty and looked amazing on the plate, just needed to be a bit warmer.
Beef Wellington was delicious and our waiter was friendly and attentive.
Very fun place. Very lively.
I booked The Footman for my husband and I as we were staying in London for the weekend celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Reviews looked great, and we were not disappointed. The service was great, the food delicious. Sadly the one negative which was no fault of the venue at all, was a rather noisy undisciplined child. Still this did not spoil our lovely lunch, we will return another day, and would highly recommend.
I have had nice lunches there many times. Last week was first time for dinner, which is upstairs. Screaming kids and loud, profane patrons were not what I expected, but it is what we got. Soup was good, but main course was almost not edible. It was dover sole, and it was swimming in butter. Server barely knew English, and we had to send two martinis back because she didn't understand what we were saying.
Great pub with a great menu. Been before and I'll go again.
Waiting staff a little rude when we arrived - not the warmest of welcomes considering the poor weather outside.
Ok but vegan options non existent. Should do better! All other food looked good and beers were tasty. Good service.
Good location. Service was good. Polite and unintrusive. Good value.
This was a lunch with work colleagues, with extremely limited vegan choices and even when the choice was made, it was cancelled because cheese had been put with the food!! The food was a little more than mediocre.
Lovely food and very comfortable and civilised
Very personal and warm service.
The food was nice but the service was really slow. The atmosphere upstairs is not great either. I recommend it as a pub for the downstairs area but not as a dining venue.
The Footman was a great find tucked away on this back street. After an exhausting sightseeing day and lots of walking, it was a joy to find such a great restaurant right down the street from our hotel!
The service and food were very good. I'd return again in the future for sure.
The ground floor is a pub, and there is a restaurant on the first floor, serving traditional English cuisine. It has a variety of inexpensive, yet very good wines. Every thing is satisfactory.
Everything was done in a friendly yet professional manner. The food was excellent and the ambiance of the restaurant was great. An enjoyable evening.
