Tuna Fillet Steak
Fish & Chips
Fantastic place, comfortable, friendly and food was amazing.
Lovely food and friendly staff definitely recommend
Whilst this has all the markings of a food experience, it somewhat loses out on the lack of direction when dining upstairs. Its a nightmare to go to and from the toilet down an extremely narrow passage where staff are forced to wait with burning hot food for you to pass.
The food itself was fair, the steak on the stone is a nice idea which allows you to cook your meat to your required liking, The chips however were not really on par as they seemed mildly under done, this was evident in their lack of crispy coating and pale complexion.
The seating area in which our table was had the benefit of open windows but even still we were baking hot. The service was excellent and really did make us feel well tended to. Hosting a nice selection of Craft ales (local to Derby) was a nice touch.
I would say in all this place would be more suited to a drinking establishment that offered snacks as opposed to an eatery that would charge £50 for chateaubriand, as the accompanying dishes just fall short of the beautiful cuts of meat available.
The starters were average, we all had steak which in all fairness was really good. The down side was the fact we waited around 45 minutes for the starter and probably the same for the main. The waitress was good and polite but the speed of service was really poor. No discount was offered and I felt the overall experience wasn’t great.
Underwhelmed and overpriced. The waitress we had was lovely. However, we waited so long for the food that I ended up not being hungry anymore, the vegetables that came with the catch of the day (swordfish) seemed undercooked and they were cold, was brought out a mushroom as a side instead of the mushroom sauce I had requested. Wine was good! My partners steak started off brilliantly, however ended up leaving quite a bit as there was a huge string of fat, not something I would expect for such an expensive steak, however he still enjoyed what he did eat. The Halloumi fries seemed stale and I’ve had much better from cheaper restaurants. The experience was enjoyable due to good wine and good music, however I would not return.
The food was incredible and we both really enjoyed it. The first time we went was in August. And my y loves steak so we had to come back for his birthday ☺️
The only down side was to see that the prices of the food had gone up so much! In the space of a month the Fillet steak had gone up £7!
Fantastic steak and fantastic service would definitely recommend
Love this place! Food is incredible and staff are very friendly
The wait for our starters was ridiculous. The food did not fit it’s description either my partner and I ordered sticky chilli prawns which came out as limp prawns in a very watery slightly spicy chilli stew…
The mains were chucked together, the chips had clearly been sat there too long and the waitress didn’t even know what came with the foods on the menu. Overall not worth it
Very slow service for food. Table booked for 7 and main meal came out at 9pm, waited 20 mins did a drink, the staff were very friendly but the food wasn’t as brilliant as it’s been previously. It appeared there was not enough staff.
Great food, expensive but worse it!
Both our steaks very fatty, never asked if everything was ok. Not enough room to cook the raw mushroom as well, did not stay hot enough to cook everything.
Lovely, took a while for starters though. But apart from that was good
Very nice :)
Only criticism not much choice of beers
Dreadful steak, difficult to cut never mind chew.
Did not appreciate young waiter telling me it was because I'd chosen ribeye.
Some staff obviously sorry that we had a poor experience but then had to argue to get an acceptable reduction on the bill. Still paid more than it was worth.
Not good at all.
Blacksmiths Yard and the Forge are in a really lovely place in Derby. Food and customer service were great
Fantastic food, in perfect surroundings. We went on a Sunday afternoon with only one waitress working, the food was worth the wait. Starter for 1 was enough for 2 and as for the onion rings! Wow.
Great steak in vibrant atmosphere, dessert good too. Wines reasonably priced.
Absolutely amazing food. The staff were so lovely and made it a more enjoyable evening for us however the drinks orders were very slow to arrive, at one point we waited over 20 minutes for a cocktail however it was a Saturday night and they were fully booked so it’s not as long as it could have been.
Steak was good but had better, salad was satisfactory. Chips were really good. We also had a dessert of apple pie with ice cream and it was awful, tasted very powdery , tasted as it wasn't fully defrosted. Food was delivered before our drinks but we waited for dessert nearly half an hour and had to chase it up couple of times. Won't be going back for sure.
Fantastic food lovely staff and superb atmosphere
We go at least once a month and this time
We was sat upstairs the service was really good girls always asking if we was ok and really helpful
After a friend recommend we thought we would try it out
It was such a great experience
staff were lovely and friendly food was amazing loved that you cook your steak yourself just to how you like it was over all great quality and a lovley visit
Terrible slow service. Had to get our own drinks from the bar. Steaks finally came after 1 hour 45 minutes. One totally inedible, 2 really salty & 1 was ok. Men’s loos disgusting & overflowing. Unsafe entrance te the bar several people fell including my husband. Food left on the floor, grind slipped on it whilst manager was filling in first accident report form. Absolute disaster.
Very disappointed, very long wait between finishing starter & main, over 1 hour. Asked 3 times when food was arriving was told “just coming” then was told “just started it”. Asked for a drink to accompany our meal waited over 30 mins for a glass of wine so no drink with meal my partner waited until her drink arrived in the mean time her meal went cold. Waitresses was very apologetic they seem to be being let down by kitchen & bar staff. This is very unfortunate because they get the complaints from unhappy customers like myself. The major plus was I can not compliment the food enough very tasty stakes. Unfortunately the experience as a whole was not good & left my partner feeling she had had a poor birthday night out. If the service can improve I’d recommend this restaurant. Thank you also for the honesty of your waitress on returning the phone we left behind.
Very noisy environment- crispy prawns good - steak / chateaubriand should melt in your mouth but didn’t- although 16ozs was enough for 2 to share
We absolutely love the forge BUT was this time did not seem as nice as all the other times. I like my steak quite rare & by the time it got to the table it was cooking very fast. When I started cutting it was already cooked through so I was slightly disappointed as I had to take it straight off the black rock. Looking around at other tables, another couple next to us had to ask for a spare plate because there’s was the same. Onion rings was not as nice as last time either. Last time they was herby & crispy. This time just plane & quite soggy. Bit disappointed but still love the food.
By far the best steak I’ve had in very long time 10/10 🥩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
After many many visits here it's so difficult to find fault cos there is none! Excellent food and service - just fabulous 😍
Extraordinary good night we will be back when we are in the city next
I didn't think I liked steak before ! 😊
Thanks. I'll be back.
Visited the forge Sunday lunchtime . We had booked an inside table but was lovely weather so sat out . We had steak on the stone with extra sauce and onion rings . It was absolutely gorgeous. Couldn’t fault a thing. . The service was good both at the table and bar and the staff are all really nice and friendly . Will definitely be back and definitely do recommend .
We booked a meal for 2 for our anniversary (advised on booking it was for a anniversary)
We got seated next to a table of 6 who were very very loud. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all so I don’t see why groups and couples we’re seated together
We arrived at 8pm for our booked time and it was 8.25pm before someone came to take our first drinks order.
2 other tables near us complained of the food and drink wait time.
Ordered a 2nd drink that never even arrived with us
Food was ok but I’m afraid we won’t be returning
Chips were very dry - tasted like they had been sat there for hours and reheated, sauces were forgotten, no tomato or mushroom was provided for one of the steaks. Cooking your own steak is just a gimmick not worth paying for, completely overpriced, will not visit again.
This was my 4th visit to the Forge. The 3 previous have been sort of ok the food is good but the service can be hit and miss . The 4th visit the service was shocking our booking was for 7.00pm we ordered starters which came very quick, around 7.20pm but our mains came at 8.45 which is not acceptable this was our last and final time here .
Menu’s and decor seemed pretty dirty. Food was terrible. Camembert was overdone meaning the garlic in it had become bitter. Vegetarian pie was dry and unseasoned and over done. I know it’s a steak restaurant but would expect there to be a decent veggie option and the sides to be good quality given that the steak was being cooked by us. Chips were soggy and greasy as were the onion rings. Peppercorn sauce was nice though! Service was fairly poor.
Really nice as always.
Could do with butter to cook the steak in because the steak just sticks to the rock and gives you that burnt taste and makes the hole restaurant smoky.
Apart from that great experience for a once in a while treat
Delicious food. Great place. Good staff .lovely place to eat & drink, the food is really amazing, and you must try the onion rings. We will be going again. Thank you.
