Amazing experience and gorgeous steaks that you can cook yourself
Amazing yet again, last supper for a while due to covid but still the best steakhouse in derby by far.
We've eaten here loads of times as we love the food and experience but was quite disappointed with our recent visit. There was a table by the bar which sounded like it was staff, none socially distanced and only only 2 girls wearing a mask. We was a few tables down and they were loud and constantly swearing. This is disappointing as we had our 2 year olr daughter with us.
The girl came to take our order, although she was lovely we asked for no mushrooms or tomatoes. Both of our meals came with mushrooms and tomatoes! Our little girl asked for nuggets and beans, she got served nuggets and salad. What 2yr old eats salad?! We took our mushrooms and tomatoes off the plate not a problem but questioned our daughters food. The girl just said 'oh no i did take down beans sorry' and walked off. Oh so you're not going to get them then? Never did get the beans and to top it off you dont do Ketchup so my daughter had dry nuggets on their own for tea. Will stick to mc donalds next time
Was looking forward to the forge for a long time, massively dissapointed, rib eye steak was full of gristle, was told might not be able to have onion rings as the kitchen was running short, but we got 2 portions, again dissapointing, soggy, undercooked,,
chips were barely warm when they came out and a bit soggy,so by the time the steak was cooked chips were cold, informed the the server of the problems and all we got was I'll tell the kitchen !!!!,no offer of replacements or anything, all in £77.80 for 2 meals and we felt it wasn't worth half the amount,so won't be coming again
Beat Steak house in the East Midlands, really friendly staff. Well worth the visit
No other steaks compare and you can cook on the rock to your taste.
The concept of finishing your own steak (and mushroom etc.) was a little jarring to start with, but the overall experience was lovely, if a bit expensive. The food was very high quality.
The service was extremely high quality, from happy, dedicated staff.
As always the steak 🥩 was amazing, the staff friendly
The food was lovely and the staff were nice. Unfortunately no tomato ketchup which is odd, apparently lots of people ask for it. Surely it would make sense to stock it? The only other issue were the serving plates were small so my partner lost a few chips when trying to cut his onion rings. You dont get many chips so this was quite annoying. Besides that, the food was beautiful.
this was our 2nd time food was so lovely disappointed about not doing the pizzas anymore our daughter was so looking forward to it.
We arrived at the forge at 8:15 and was seated pretty much straight away. Unfortunately after waiting for half an hour our starter arrived but we hadn’t received any cutlery so was eaten with hands. Around half 9 our main meal arrived, I ordered the pie which was severely burnt and was returned.
Our meal at the Forge was excellent, the place was spacious enough, very clean and well set up. We felt very safe. The food was amazing, the portions were ample. We will definitely done here again.
Amazing food as always, King fillet is best I've ever tasted.
Very good quality steak, I had the sirloin. Really good chips, would recommend the port & Stilton sauce. Excellent evening
Absolutely amazing food, the portions were enormous!! Really good value for money and we will definitely be returning.
Only issue we found was that some customers were very drunk and loud, shouting and swearing but staff did try to keep them quiet. I would probably not go on a Saturday night if you are looking for something more relaxing.
It was very busy slow to deliver food but ambiance enabled a lovely evening so wait wasn’t a problem, food well worth the wait!
Totally overpriced for what it was. Felt dirty. Didn't mind cooking our own steak on the hot Rock but no where to put it once it was cooked. If you left it on the rock it'd be well done by the time you finish eating it, had to pile it on top of the chips! No atmosphere, cheesy 80s music, loads of students sat near us drinking while we were trying to have a nice birthday meal. Should separate people drinking and people dining. Not value for money at all!!! And they'd ran out of ketchup, not essential for me but in a steak place surely should be stocked up!
Excellent, food and service couldnt fault it at all. Felt very safe and had a really nice evening
Great food and friendly staff. Good food and drinks choice. Clean resturant.
There were two other tables besides ours yesterday
The service was absolutely dire
We stood at the entrance for ten minutes whilst the bar staff chatted between themselves
They got our drinks wrong
It took forever for our order to be taken
Dreadful
Out of all the cocktails on the menu they only had 2 available due to not having ingredients to make them on a Friday evening! This is mostly what we went for! No ketchup. This is the second time I have been and there was issues with having ingredients in stock the first time. I understand with the current situation delivery’s have issues but twice now I’ve been and although it’s not a massive issue because the food certainly makes up for it! 10 out of 10 on food and the friendly staff although service is a little slow!
Hour and a half wait between starters going back and the 4 x steaks coming out...its seared and you cook it yourself so why it took this long I'll never know. It came out at 9:20pm and we had been there since 7:30pm. Had to rush our food to be out for 10pm and no time for dessert if we had wanted it. restaurant wasn't busy so couldn't understand the delay and no communication from the waitresses. Sauce and cutlery thrown on the table. Overall £113 for 4 people should of been about half the price. Poor service and poor experience.
Ordered a steak which you cook yourself, took over an hour for our food to come out, (don’t wait that long when the place cooks your steak) the chips was still raw an not very nice. We asked 3 different members of staff where our food was and none of them came back to inform us of any complications, which we found out in the end there was with our order. Manager came over to speak to us, an offered 10% off the bill and a round of drinks but to be honest not sure it was enough to encourage us to return. The price you pay for your food you expect it to be really nice, an it just wasn’t very nice at all. Not the best of review’s an I’m sure it’ll be quite different to other’s but unfortunately this was our experience.
It’s quite simple, if you love steak then this restaurant is the only place to go. I recommend the Chateaubriand 16oz. I sat upstairs for the meal which was quiet and decided on the way out to sit outside and sample the desserts. Fabulous venue.
We Celebrated my husband's Birthday with our children. And had a lovely time. Good value for money as it basically worked out about £27 pp for meals and drinks and a bottle of wine. The staff were lovely and it was good as you can cook the steak to how you like it. Will definitely go back there again.
Amazing steak as always, srachia wings are better than they usually are, amazing.
Service was slow and felt chaotic, drinks took a while to reach our table, staff were friendly and welcoming but I felt they were rushed due to the current COVID restrictions on time. The food was nice and I’d say the pricing was fair. I would dine again after the COVID restrictions have been lifted. Overall a good experience
Food was absolutely amazing best steak we have ever had! Our waiter was really nice and apologetic over the wait but the service was slow in general. Will definitely return as food is fantastic and worth the price.
Fantastic food and service would highly recommend. 🙂
7.30 booking Saturday night. It was very busy, placed food order (mains only) at 8.00ish, food arrived 9.10. We had to rush to eat it, no time for desserts as we had to be out for 10.00pm. Some people who had earlier bookings walked out as they hadn't had any food. Something was very wrong in the kitchen they were massively behind. The food was nice when we did get it however it wasn't a relaxed meal due to the early closing. I would like to think it was a one off but I don't know if I would go again
We had to wait 1 hr 20 mins after our starters for the main course we said we were going to leave as it was a long time we got asked to stay and they’d give us some discount, the food was amazing but service was very slow.
Food was lovely but we waited a long time to be served for our food and drink
How was it? It wasn’t!
We were hugely disappointed.
We ordered 4 sirloin stakes for after our starters. Waited 2 hours and were told NO sirloin left.
Negotiated an agreed no charge with the manager.
We left.
Went to pizza express as we needed something to eat at this point. Lovely hot food quickly.
It was meant to be a special night out too. Shame on you The Forge.’
Took my boyfriend for a birthday meal on a Friday night, had the choice to sit inside or outside, was still rather busy and hot inside so decided to mix it up and sit outside.
He had some top tier ribeye steak, I had the bog standard steak. Both come out like a spectacular firework display, amazing portion sizes that get you sitting upright as soon as you see the waitress carrying the food. All the staff were super friendly, and made us feel so welcome even with all the Covid-restrictions in place, massively grateful for a wonderful evening, and the perfect food (even the salad was peng).
Finally I’ll add about the atmosphere :) sitting outside, which was a relatively still octobery night, the mood is set with decorative gaslight burners, string lights across the yard area and a cracking playlist of reggae and old school bangers. The music was quiet enough to have meaningful conversations. but loud enough you can enjoy humming to “It must be love” with a mouth full of piping hot medium-rare steak in your trap.
So. To conclude. 10/10 worth every penny, and dispite it turning to colder months, when you’d rather snuggle up and not go out, get yasen’ down the forge for a beautiful experience with incredible food 🔥👌
Fantastic food with friendly staff will definitely visit again.
Excellent quality food and service was great very friendly staff and pleasant
The chicken wings starter still had feathers on which was a major put off. My little one was also sad at the fact there was no steak on the kids menu
The service was very slow! However I enjoyed the experience of the steak cooking on the hot stone it was something different
Was very impressed with the forge, the food was lovely, very well presented. The staff were very friendly. Will definitely recommend and will be back again. Thank you
We dined here on Saturday night for my husbands birthday. The food was delicious, staff were attentive and friendly. Can't wait to go back.
