Good food with friendly, efficient service in a well situated town centre pub.
Pre-booked for dinner. Quite a delay to have our order taken, for which they apologised. Opted to go straight for a main as dessert choices looked good.
We then waited, and waited, and waited....queried with staff when our food would arrive...waited some more.... Eventually got our food over an hour after we were seated, only to find that the overcooked fish was sitting on (hiding!) burnt chips. We did complain and that meal was taken off the bill but that doesn't resolve the fact that service was appallingly slow and the food poorly cooked.
No time for dessert (had theatre tickets) so asked for the bill, then waited, and waited.... eventually took it to the bar to pay
Main meal portions are on the small side so then sat through the theatre show we'd booked still feeling rather peckish
Absolutely would not recommend or return to The Fox
Enjoyable overall, service a bit slow but they were busy.
Fantastic service the food was blooming delicious thank you x
Service at The Fox was very friendly. They had run out of some dishes from the menu on the Saturday we visited and so choices were limited, particularly for desserts. Food was enjoyed by all although my vegetable moussaka could have done with more flavour. Prices were good.
We had the 20oz ribeye steak for 2 people and it was absolutely lovely, cooked as we like it, no issues. Staff helpful, cheerful and polite
Great stuff our third visit in a week and we’ll come back to stay over next time! Great staff, amazing food, lovely atmosphere and clean loos 👍🏼
Steak was poor and for £20 for a rump steak it should be a good bit of meat and well cooked.
£10 was knocked off bill, the whole amount should have been taken off.
Wouldn’t go back and definitely could not recommend to anyone based on that experience.
Everything was right, the service, the food (outstanding) the ambience, the loos.. I’ve now started drinking Gin thanks to the knowledge of our waitress who recommended with confidence! We’re about to book back in for two consecutive nights meals before New Year and cannot wait!
A really good evening at The Fox, even though they had pre-cooked Christmas parties to serve. Every effort was made to serve us with efficiency and courtesy. The food was very good and the atmosphere busy and celebratory. We will definitely return. Thanks.
Met friends “half way” for lunch, The Fox was ideal. Friendly staff, good food, did not feel rushed at all. Thank you
My husband and I meet at the Fox on a blind date last year and returned to celebrate 52 weeks later. We had 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco which was very sweet of staff.
The portions were huge and the food tasty
A mini break stay over with dinner bed and breakfast. Lovely cosy pub with dining area set slightly apart which gives you best of both worlds. Must say the service was excellent from arrival and everything was well maintained and kept v clean too. Good choice for dinner and an excellent breakfast too
Eat here whilst on a family visit to chipping Norton. It was Friday night so must of us tucked into some very reasonably priced Fish Chips & Mushy peas whilst other chose from the main menu. All the food was well cooked and plentiful. The waiter who served us drinks was a little distracted and didn’t seem to understand that if you have a 2 year old it may be better for him to drink out of something other than a bottle. The day was saved though by a waitress who came up with a coffee cup with a lid. Otherwise the service was excellent and the food good value.
Lovely food very friendly staff and a warm welcome
Service was very slow, waited over 2 hrs for main meals. Food quality was not reflective of the price.
Manager at least discounted the bill
Small dining area. Some of the seats are high up and others usual height. Staff friendly. Service was ok. We had a drink and a main course only and from seating to finishing our meal was an hour. Food was very nice and hot.
Great Sausages and mash, and they do good Guinness what more could a man want
Loved The Fox! We were on holiday in the area, booked for an evening meal and had a lovely time. Great, friendly service. Good food.
Great tasting pub food and excellent service. Planning to go back this evening!
Service was terrible. Waited 40 minutes for a starter. One main came out and then waited a few minutes for the next only for it to be forgotten. Food itself was very tasty.
Fantastic Meal and staff very friendly helpful and fully accommodating of needs. Will visit again soon.
Our booking was on the same night as the Chipping Norton Fair so understandably the Pub was very busy upon arrival. As a consequence, I think the waitress forgot our order as it was at least a 30 minute wait for our fish and chips. Luckily when I prompted her, the kitchen bell rang for service, so all ended well.
Great selection of ales and very nice portions of food served.
Staff was amazing and friendly we loved this place
Staff were friendly but service was slow. We waited almost 30 mins for our food. We both chose the Sunday roast beef but it was barely cooked, being completely pink and bloody with no browning around the edges. The rest of the food was delicious but barely warm. We were given a partial refund but it spoiled our wedding anniversary celebration.
The food was very well presented and delicious with a good choice on the menu.
Sadly they seemed short staffed and so the service was a little slow....it was a good thing that the food was definitely worth the wait !
However the waitress acknowledged our wait and was very apologetic and seemed most sincere.
I would definitely recommend eating here.
We enjoyed our evening and the food was lovely.
Service was very fast , friendly and efficient especially our waiter who was Portuguese. We would definitely recommend The Fox.
We went for a meal on a Monday evening which is 'pie and a pint' night. The pies were lovely just the right size with fresh vegetables and a choice of potatoes just right. Several of our party had different things and everyone enjoyed their meal.
Great steak, great atmosphere with great service to match!
Welcoming, great food, good price. Attentive staff but not overwhelming. What a lovely place for a good meal out. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic find - beautiful pub, lovely team who knew their stuff (both food and drink) and looked after us fantastically. Food was all lovely and menu great (try the snack starters!)
Nice location, staff provided excellent service and the food was great, would recommend a visit
Enjoyable meal in a nice family pub vibe. BBQ sauce on the brisket was actually quite spicy!
Lovely location with good rooms. Staff were friendly and food and drinks top drawer.
We went to the fox for fathers day with out toddler and dog they were very accommodating for sitting us in a dog friendly area and very quickly had brought over a high chair and colouring for my son. The service was wonderful very friendly especially for our friendly spaniel who enjoyed a few biscuits and water brought by the staff. The food was delicious my son had the fish goujons and I've never seen such scrummy batter before! The advantage of having their own parking and town centre location was great. We shall definitely visit again, thanks for making our visit so relaxing team Fox!
We were staying locally but chose to eat out in Chipping Norton. My youngest daughter found The Fox after trawling the internet for somewhere close by that would cater to her (somewhat selective) tastes. The Fox delivered and we had a very enjoyable meal. We had booked a table for 7.30 but happened to be ready earlier and they were very happy to accommodate us an hour before our booked time.
Lovely plate full of food. I went for the bangers and mash - my all time favourite comfort meal and the local bangers came with creamy mash and some perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables and red onion gravy. Would recommend.
Food good, waiting staff did seem very busy perhaps more staff needed on a busy Friday.
While there was plenty of food, especially with the starter, the quality left a great deal to be desired. Service, while friendly was disorganised and unprofessional.
Food (for two) ordered at 7.30pm food served at 8.50!! Waiters apologetic however disgusted to wait so long without any justification.
The only waitress was clearly struggling to cope with the busy evening. We arrived for 7.30 for Pie Night, but by 8 pies had sold out.
After waiting nearly 45mins for much anticipated pies we were disappointed with the tiny portion size, but thought at least that meant room for a pud... again a good half hour wait for pre made desserts which at £7.50 each were again tiny and shocking for the price. Unfortunately we won't be returning anytime soon :(
