Had high expectations, thoroughly underwhelmed, service great, food not worth what was charged, cancelled 2nd booking.
It was a pity some know-all Londoners had to make their views known to the whole building, perhaps they need new hearing aids! If I had been a member of staff I would not have put up with them, so congratulations to all the staff for keeping their cool. Mr Hix , may be you should provide a punch bag outside for the staff to let out their frustration, I used to have a bin to go and kick. It was a lovely meal in pleasant place, after a difficult year. Congratulations to all.
Sunday lunch was excellent. The beef was as good as I’ve had anywhere and better than most. Definitely recommendable
The table was ready for the time booked. The greeting and escorting to the table was friendly and efficient especially the introduction to the restaurant waiters. A very varied menu and good food. The waiters for the evening, Freya and Tom were attentive and fun thus making the evening very enjoyable.
We had the best evening at the Fox. The food was excellent, I had scallops and they were incredibly fresh. The staff were so friendly and efficient and we enjoyed chatting to Mark. We sat in the garden room which had a very nice atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
We had been here before a few weeks ago, and loved it. This was equally great. My partner had the steak, which she said was definitely the best she'd ever eaten. I had chicken curry, which was delicious. Mark came to talk to us and even sent me his tandoori John Dory recipe.
Wonderful food, lovely location, enthusiastic and friendly service. (One star off for that as we had to ask twice for the water). But absolutely marvellous!
Wonderful staff - friendly , informative, met the owner which was great and the staff showed us around and had caught the vision for the restaurant. Food was tasty, simple - but for the price I would have expected something of a higher quality regarding more creative presentation, more imagination in the food itself and depth in flavours. I would go back to support the team's endeavours and really do hope that The Fox succeeds - but these are my honest comments having worked in the catering industry.
A good evening in the marquee - ex Army tent? - original menu with some surprising local food - Dorset snails! Quality good, quantity good
Excellent location, staff, food and ambiance. Birthday celebration that we will all remember for a long time
Service was friendly and positive and the food was fabulous. The descriptions were ordinary and not over the top so when the plates came out it was a wonderful surprise. Each course was delicious and special. Best of all was a surprise plate of chocolate shards on a decorated plate for my brother (I had taken him there as a belated birthday treat). It was good value, not cheap but less than expected.
Excellent use of local ingredients with a menu reflecting the season. Lovely local sparkling wine. Excellent service throughout.
Not enough seafood choices either fish fingers or turbot that is 30 pounds.
Some people are pescatarians
Friendly, happy place. Food from very good to excellent.
Wow what a marvelous expereince ! Despite a powercut the chef produced the most amazing food which was just amazing . The staff were all friendly and enthusiastic everyone wanting to making our visit a happy one . We cannot praise them enough for making our visit which was to celebrate our wedding anniversary a very happy and memorable occasion . Thank you
Despite a power cut the team were happy to accommodate us with a reduced menu at £15/head with whatever the chef could offer from a mainly cold selection. We were so glad we stayed, it was superb! We could not praise the staff enough, they really dug out in the face of adversity & the food was delicious. I would thoroughly recommend.
Great meal, great service, lovely afternoon sat in the garden by the stream.
Would highly recommend it.
Service was excellent, our waiter Finn was so friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. We didn’t fancy the picnic bench seating out the front (we were surprised a restaurant of this standard had uncomfortable picnic benches for dining) but the staff were very accommodating and moved us inside. Food was delicious, would definitely return and would recommend 👍
Wonderful to find such a high quality restaurant in the middle of Dorset.
Great understanding of Gluten Free options for anyone with Coeliac Disease
My second visit to the fabulous Fox - wonderful menus and food,
friendly, attentive and efficient staff.
I thought Finn and Kim were really superb - there, but never
I'll be back!!!
Excellent food, great location and helpful and enthusiastic young staff
Nice welcome from staff reassuringly wearing masks, respected our personal needs and we were placed in the marquee with open sides - so comfortable on a hot day. We all had the beef roast with vegetables on the side - all hot and delicious. Can’t praise the staff enough for their caring attitude.
A dinner with greatest friends - down from town. Brilliant meal in the tent, such a happy evening. Lovely staff, great wine and the food was fab. So lucky to be local. Magical.
Spiros, Freya, Felix et al thank you.
Outstanding food, really friendly staff, who had a passion for there work and they looked after us really well.
Classic Hix. Gorgeous ingredients, beautifully prepared, with a twist of innovation. Be hungry when you go -the food is hearty and rich even in the summer. Lovely setting in a tiny village where The Fox is the main (only) attraction. If the sun is shining, dine in the Garden Room or at an outside table next to the stream across the road. Lovely and attentive (but not too much so) staff. It’s a great destination but take your time - lots of winding country roads take longer than the Satnav tells you and the food deserves a leisurely approach. Not one to be hurried
Faultless service and wonderful food in a beautiful setting
Great service. Jay is always a great server and goes above and beyond, love having such a great local pub.
Wonderful starter (Marks 3), fish fingers needed more seasoning, lovely desserts.
Tasty food and a pleasant environment with family.
Magical setting, we all loved it so much we stayed for 4 hours. Thank you
The Fox Inn had it right when they decided to put up a rather lovely shelter with heaters in opposite their pub. The ambience was relaxed and both waiting staff were fantastic, thank you Felix and Poppy for going out of your way to be so attentive and accommodating, not to mention friendly and funny!
Fabulous food, relaxed atmosphere and always friendly engaging staff.
Looking forward to coming back soon.
Enjoyed my meal very much. The service was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning
Fabulous food and fantastic service from all the staff we encountered. In particular our waiter Joe. Highly recommend. We sat in the room off the bar which was cosy but look forward to the garden room on our next visit.
Good, locally sourced food. Beautiful location, relaxed atmosphere entirely in keeping with surroundings. Genuine and welcoming team. Can’t wait to fully experience the cosy bustle of this pub again when remaining restrictions are lifted.
Delicious food and friendly attentive service although there was a bit of a wait between our starter and main course.
We had a most enjoyable evening and hope to return soon
Great food and good service. The Turbot and the steaks were perfectly cooked. Some sauce with the fish would have improved the dish.
If we could give 6 stars we would.
Service excellent, friendly knowledgeable staff.
Every course we chose was delicious, cannot fault anything.
So much better than a recent visit to a chain named after a farmyard animal.
Very overpriced with odd decor in the pub. Staff were fantastic though
Service was excellent from start to finish. Food was outstanding. Ambiance was lovely. Marc Hix came and had a chat. We were a table of six, with overseas visitors and children, everyone was happy! Not cheap by any means but worth it. Restaurant food in a pub.
Wonderful turbot - just what expect from Mark Hix
