I was glad i had booked an early table as there was plenty of parking but we only had the table for two hours...we had a coffee next door..to continue our catch up.
Staff were helpful and attentive. The roast was lovely we were not overfaced and the elderly nember of the group was given childs portion so very helpful.
Time of year for wasps and windows were open due to heat...unavoidable.
Definitely will return....
Love this place! I was gutted I had no change to leave a tip! Definitely come back
Our first visit, and we were not disappointed. Excellent service and food, which was competitively priced.
A child having a tantrum did decide to lie on the floor beside my chair for a while, but not the fault of the restaurant! I blame the parents!
We always enjoy eating at the Fox! The food is always very good and the staff are always friendly!
A really nice local pub serving attractive, good quality meals at a reasonable price. Could do with a more diverse dessert menu. Staff friendly and accommodating.
Lovely food, managed to pick a daye when there was a village fete so very busy
First rideout with my old man on his new Triumph. Great spot, never disappoints. Ploughmans could have done with an apple and pickle...but other than that, all good.
Brilliant food and lovely staff! Would definitely go again and bring more friends with me! SO cute
Meal overall was good except for the cold creme brûlée, the dish was hot but the contents cold ... this didn’t spoil the visit though.
We meet our friends here regularly for lunch- hour travel each, well worth it
Second time at the Fox Inn this place is always great the service is great the foiod is great it’s all great
The location is lovely and will be back
Please give the Fox a try
You won’t be disappointed
Great service, I took my 86 yo Mum, they really looked after her and made her feel very special. The food was excellent and there is a great range of beers. Very highly recommended.
Second visit to this pretty picturesque place. Lovely food, great service. Very friendly staff including the landlord and the locals. Will defo be returning very soon!!
Excellent service and very helpful with Gluten free menu
We had a lovely and relaxing day sitting outside on a bright day watching the two busloads of morris dancers on tour as part of Thaxted Morris Weekend. Sat out there for five hours popping inside for drink, pots of tea, and lunch which was served outside. Ran a tab placing our card behind the bar. Made very welcome by the management. Relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed view across village, reading and generally relaxing after a stressful time at work. Made return visit to pub especially knowing food really good and atmosphere so relaxing.
Fabulous setting in Finchingfield just by the bridge. Very good pub food with friendly staff and a good range of beers. The service was excellent and the Sunday roast outstanding.
We got together with friends we had not seen for over 40 years and we could not have picked a better location and the food was great also being a reunion we wanted to take our time and catch up with the latest news which we were allowed to do, we were not rushed at all. We had a fantastic day and the staff were brilliant.
A nice warm and friendly place, the staff were very attentive and pleasent. The food was delicious and great service. Would defiantly recommend, and go back there again. Thank you.
A lovely setting on a sunny day, sat outside and then inside for excellent food. Friendly service. Thanks.
Second visit and both times food was amazing. This time visited on sunny bank holiday Sunday and service was very slow but staff pre-warned and kept us updated.
This pub is set in idyllic country village with village green opposite, on a beautiful sunny day it is hard to beat the whole package.
Great food but the service was quite slow. The pub was very busy due to the glorious sunshine and it’s amazing location. The food was worth the wait, we will definitely be back but at a quieter time.
Very disappointed with the service, long waits for everything. drinks order wrong and despite many reminders it took a lifetime to get everything we ordered. water was eventually delivered, again after many reminders, however the glasses may have been dishwasher clean, not one of them looked clean enough to drink from. We all had the Roast beef except one who had an undercooked burger. beef wasn't great and the roast potatoes were definitely not cooked on Sunday and certainly not crispy. Veg was good though! I am sure it is not always like this and they were busy, but use note pads or something so you don't keep forgetting everything. Not enough staff is my guess for last Sunday but really that shouldn't mean poor service.
The Fox is set in the middle of the very picturesque village of Finchingfield.
Its an olde worlde pub which serves a very good value Sunday Lunch.
Sat lunch for 6- took > 2 hours for basic food. Salads were nice, burgers very overdone, nice staff but presumably v small kitchen as over an hour for a starter. Maybe midweek quieter.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch and the service was excellent. Only criticism was the menu courses were priced with a set cost which was fair for some items but a bit pricey for others i.e. full Roast Beef dinner at £13.95 good value but the veggie option of Butternut and Spinach Pine Nut Loaf at the same price not such good value in my opinion. However, still a good meal at a sensible price with happy smiling staff, we will definitely be going back.
This was our first visit to the Fox Inn and must say that we have found a little gem. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. We will definitely be returning
We visit here quite regularly and are never disappointed with the food, service or ambience. It is a lovely picturesque setting and you are always made to feel welcome.
Just moved into the area and had a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Fox with friends and family. Super food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere- as a bonus, they welcome dogs so we’ll be back with our four legged friend soon!
We had a lovely Mother’s Day lunch at The Fox. Plentiful portions and lovely service.
We booked as the pub looked amazing and we often dine in village pubs. The pub itself is in beautiful settings and is lovely inside and out. The staff were nice and did check on us. However I don’t like to make a fuss, the started mushrooms on toast was only luke warm not even hot. The burger was extremely dry and so was the chips. My husband also didn’t like the chips. The dessert bread and butter pudding was lovely and also hot. We wouldn’t return again though.
Excellent food, imaginative veggie options, pretty setting, welcoming decor and outstanding service.
Great food, lovely cosy inside and fantastic scenery. Were happy to accommodate my veganism (I gave a little notice via email which I always do anyway) and service was great even though they seemed quite busy and popular for Sunday lunch. Will definitely go back.
“A VERY INDIFFERENT WAITRESS!!!!”. –AVOID ‘HELEN’.
When we went here for Sunday lunch, we were quickly seated. We were then approached by one of the three mature women, who were taking the drink and food orders. We were approached by one of these women, who we learnt was called Helen. She was INDIFFERENT and MISERABLE during our whole visit --- Not ONE smile..
We ordered the fish dish – [plaice & chips] and roast beef. The fish was ok, but the roast beef was not of good quality. [The beef is as tasteless as it looks in the photo.] When asked, I reported this to another much more cheerful waitress – ‘Jack’. She then offered us a complementary soft drink.
We would consider going here again if we were being served be Jack, but avoid if we are to be served by ‘Helen’, who is NOT an asset to this business.
I would have rated this Pub three out of five if we had been served from the start by ‘Jack’.
Good food and relaxing atmosphere excellence service
Food was lovely, acceptable prices, service was not great, slow and missed drink orders
Lovely traditional pub with friendly staff and great food. Six of us went for Sunday lunch, we all had very tasty starters (can particularly recommend the home made duck spring roll), followed by traditional roasts and a couple of fish and chips. There were loads of freshly cooked veggies and plenty of eat, all hot and delicious. The staff were really nice and had a chat without being intrusive. Will definitely go again when in the area.
Comfy old pub. Excellent food and very pleasant service. Great gin and tonic too. Will be back
Brilliant Service, food was top notch. Little pricy on the starters, but overall be good.
A charming, cosy pub with superb food and excellent service in a picturesque village location - perfect for a leisurely #Sunday lunch.
This visit was a little disappointing compared to previous ones.
Both the starter and main course choices were unavailable - somewhat surprising as it was a Friday lunchtime. The second choices, however, were tasty and well presented.
The service was also slow.
All that having been said it is still a venue to which I should return.
