The Fox Inn
We were sat at a round table by a bow window. Both my partner and I had the table digging into our legs throughout our Meale as the window sit was to high and the table to low. All of our starters were wonderful, but mum and I both picked Scollops for our main, they were over cooked and Luke warm. Mum left three of hers. My partner had ribeye steak, which is normally very tasty, but on this occasion it was not, although it had been cooked as requested. Unfortunately on my return home after eating the scallops I had s very upset stomach.
The welcome was warm and genuine as was the service - offering to move umbrellas around as it was a hot day.
Food was fabulous - the twice baked cheese soufflé living up to its reputation and the pea and mint soup was a real taste of the lovely summers day! My onion and thyme tart was a revelation and all four of us enjoyed our main courses - sadly none of us had room for dessert which was a shame as they all sounded delicious.
It was the first visit for all of us but we all agreed it definitely won’t be the last - our new favourite place!
Fabulous food and service when we visited for lunch and dinner last week. What a find!
Loved The Fox Inn, beautiful Sunday lunch and great service
Superb as always - we used to live in the area and whenever we visit we try and call in. Food , wine and service excellent
Great place to dine.We have been three times over last year when holidaying and will be going again,
Superb meal & absolutely excellent service. This place has always been good but it’s lately gotten even better with friendly, informed staff. 5 stars!!
We loved the Fox, the staff were very warm friendly and helpful.
My meal was slightly on the cold side when it arrived but the staff immediately sorted it out and returned a much hotter meal.
We loved the atmosphere and decor .
If we lived closer we would return, sadly we were only visiting the area.
All very fine. My potatoes were undercooked but the problem was quickly and quietly resolved. Everything else was first rate.
There is something very off putting about ordering something and it arriving at your table 90 seconds later. Two of us had fish and chips and as well as speed of delivery being a little disconcerting, the batter had the consistency of rubber. It looked like something that had been prepared several hours earlier and been reheated. I had broccoli and Stilton tart, and that was hot in a way that only something straight out of a microwave can be.
However the people working there are very polite and if that is what you are looking for this might be the right place for you.
Dear Guest, thank for your feedback. The timing of your meal was obviously too fast we all agree. I just want to explain that on Sunday (as I believe it was the day of your visit) we constantly have our delicious homemade tart in the oven and fish and chips being prepared. I can only guarantee that you meal you had was fresh and definitely not microwaved!... we all apologise for the impression we gave you, and hope you will visit us again to repair this memory. Best regards Thom and the team.
Kitchen service slow. Value for money poor.
Waiters were attentive, but food took absolutely ages to arrive (80 mins to main course). We had to gesture that we were prepared to leave unfed before the food arrived at our table
My £11 starter arrived cold but after the long wait I didn't mention it.
My partner's £26.50 lamb main was very mean in terms of quantity. 2 very small pieces of lamb.
Overall this restaurant is over-priced and slow with pretty average food. Hence our disappointment.
We’ve been to The Fox several times - last night the service and food was outstanding! Thank you :-)
I love the fox inn at lower Oddington. It’s my favourite English pub! Always great food and service. Can’t wait to return next year!
Such a wonderful find . We had the best food and the lovely Tom made us feel very welcome . We can’t wait to visit again .
The meal was excellent as was the service. It was a rather noisy due to large table but thoughtfully, we were asked if we wanted a quieter table. Also it is a busy pub as we well. The roast beef was excellent though a little expensive for a roast. However the overall experience was five star. Many thanks
This is a really great pub with good food, and friendly, charming service. Very relaxed. We go there a lot and always enjoy it. Thoroughly recommend.
The service and ambience did not reflect the price of lunch. Although we had a warm welcome, we found the service very slow and cumbersome - it wasn’t busy, so no idea why we were constantly ignored. We’d booked the lunch to celebrate our anniversary and hoped for a little bit of luxury. However, it felt nothing more than an average pub, albeit a very expensive one. Proof that we felt the staff weren’t that interested to serve us was the fact that they had no record of our orders in order for us to pay at the end of the meal.
I’m sorry to say we wouldn’t go again or recommend to others who want anything more than a drink and bite to eat in a pub.
Dear Guest, Thank you for reporting your experience. We would like to apologise cause you felt ignored as it is definitely not how we want look after our guest. As you have noticed yesterday lunch was sunny and we try our best to look after all customers inside the pub and in our lovely garden. We will take your comment as a lesson for the future and will take the right decisions to be more present especially in the garden. Regards. T
Very slow service. Booked for 7.30. NIn course arrived after 9.15 !
Really enjoyed the food especially the wild mushroom linguine
very good meal - food excellent and staff delightful
Great food and personalized service. Food was fresh and creatively prepared. Would recommend The Fox Inn for those wanting a full culinary experience.
Super cute pub where we had a delicious dinner! Tom couldn’t have been nicer. The atmosphere was warm and nice. We’d go back in a heartbeat!
Total yum. Food, drinks, service. Excellent.
What a gem! Incredible food, staff, rose by the carafe, atmosphere and we were completely spoilt for choice with the menu. I feel we need to return for the next month each day to sample all the food, it looked so amazing... only problem is we probably wouldn’t fit through the door!!!
Nice place but could do with a makeover and lacked atmosphere. Food was good but you could have better from Cotswold pubs if you are willing to spend a little more.
The Fox was, as ever, a delightful place for lunch.
The table was booked for 8pm The table was not ready until 8.20 and we were waiting for our starter at 9pm! The cheese souffle was excellent but the main courses were disappointing. The staff and the kitchen were over-stretched on the night but the staff were very friendly and likeable and the restaurant was buzzing. We would probably return, but not on a Saturday night in the holiday season.
Just about a yes. Good welcome but over crowded and under staffed. Long wait times and they got both our starters and mains wrong. Maybe not go on a Saturday night as they are not geared up to cope.
great welcome...superb service...staff brilliant...food delicious...we will definitely be back...a breadth of fresh air....thank you....
We sat down at 7.15 and were served our main course at 9.15. One dish did not include all the ingredients shown on the menu. The replacement was not much better. When we complained about the service the waiter apologised. He said that there were problems in the kitchen as the head chef had just been fired and the junior staff were struggling to cope. He offered us a free bottle of wine or port/liquers to compensate. In the end we agreed to pay approx 50 per cent of the bill.
Dear Geoffrey, Thank you for letting us know about your experience. We would like to apologise for the length of the service during your dinner. We have been busier than expected on this occasion and will take this event as a lesson, as we aim to offer a great moment each day at The Fox. Emmerson Skeete is in charge of the Fox’s kitchen, there are no changes in our team We would love to invite you and your friend for dinner to repair this memory, do not hesitate to contact me. Thom
It was a very good experience all round. It was noisy but I would expect a pub full of people having a good time to be a bit noisy so it wasn’t a problem for us at all. We had a very nice table in the window and will certainly visit again and bring family and friends.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch and were very well looked after. The food was very good, the beef was delicious. The size of the Yorkshire pudding was a bit over the top but did not affect the overall enjoyment of the meal. The choice of the beer was adequate but the hooky did show a bit of haze and there should have been a 3rd or 4th option.
Overall I would recommend the fox as somewhere to have a Sunday lunch, well done.
Excellent food served in an informal, quaint and comfortable country pub. A perfect place to while away the hours and enjoy restaurant quality food.
The Soufflé was fantastic! As always. Would have gone for the steak, but a bit on the pricy side when having a soufflé and a desert on top with wine. Found the table next door v loud. Could you please put us somewhere quieter next time? Really love the charm of the pub and will be back again. Our waiter was v enthusiastic and v attentive. Many thanks for an enjoyable evening!
The most enjoyable meal we had in over a week of dining in the Cotswolds.
Way, way ahead on quality & service. Wish we had booked earlier in our stay and would have dined there several times.
Lovely setting, nice staff and excellent food.
Went for a Sunday roast and wasn’t disappointed! The beef was perfect and the sides ample. Was well looked after by the servers!
Lovely Sunday lunch with the family
Lovely spot, food was great and service was super friendly. Great little courtyard too!
Nearly walked out initially: stood at the quiet bar for quite a while until our presence was finally acknowledged, whilst the sole member of staff chatted to a presumed regular drinker. Pointed us to a table, not given menus. Two other tables were already occupied by diners waiting to order. Eventually brought menus; a second member of staff appeared and took our order ahead of the other tables, apologising that he’d been taking nap. All other tables occupied later. Food very good, quantities modest. Wine rather overpriced (Picpoul de Pinet £28).
Have visited this pub intermittently over a 20-year period, during which it has changed hands several times. Originally excellent, but took a dive a few years back; food quality now restored, but we did not feel very welcome: all a bit cliquey. Wouldn’t rush to return.
Dear guest, Thank you for letting us know about your experience and your constructive feedback it will help us to improve collectively as it seems that our team work has failed during your visit. Best Regards Thom and the team
We had a lovely lunch although quite expensive for what we had....especially as it was just a lunch. It was very noisy with dogs barking. Don’t agree with dogs being aloud while eating! The service was very good and we were made very welcome. Will certainly go again, having said that as I said I do feel that something should be done about dogs while eating. I love dogs but do feel they shouldn’t be aloud while eating!
