Eating at the Gage was a pleasant experience. The food is tasty, especially the corn bisque and the roasted chicken with carrots the server nice and prompt and the ambiance informal and easy going. We wanted to share dishes and asked to cut them in half and give them to us in two plates. They said it could not be done. The burrata on toast was good but the fried vegetables on it had too much oil for my taste. The affogato coffee was great for dessert.

As always great food and service. Seating at far back room reduces noise. This time we were in the semi-enclosed room nearest the bar — too noisy. Restaurant has elevator down to rest rooms and doors have contact plates to open and close doors — very helpful and appreciated. !

Our experience at The Gage was just okay. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was good, and the décor was interesting, although it felt somewhat lacking in diversity, especially for a restaurant that describes its menu as American cuisine. We dined around 5:30 p.m., and the restaurant was filling up quickly. Every seat at the bar appeared to be occupied, and we were seated in a room toward the back of the restaurant. We skipped appetizers and ordered our entrées. My wife ordered the Cheeseburger Royale, while I ordered the Steak au Poivre, an 18-ounce wet-aged ribeye with beef tallow frites and sauce au poivre, cooked medium. What stood out most was the timing. Our meals arrived roughly 15 minutes after we placed the order. While fast service is normally a positive, an 18-ounce ribeye being prepared, cooked to medium, plated, and delivered that quickly made me question whether portions of the meal may have been prepared in advance. To be fair, the steak was cooked to the correct temperature. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor, and the sauce poured over it did little to improve it. For a steak at this price point, I expected considerably more in terms of seasoning, flavor, and the overall quality of the dish. And to add insult to injury, we were seated at a wobbly table. I had to ask for it to be fixed, and staff added wedges underneath it. Unfortunately, only moments later, the table was wobbling again. It may seem like a small detail, but at a restaurant with this price point, something as basic as having a stable table should not be an issue. The service and atmosphere were both enjoyable, but the food and some of the basic details of the dining experience did not match the price. Considering what we paid, the meal felt underwhelming and left us feeling that the experience did not provide the value we expected.
