The Gate Marylebone
Exceptionally creative and tasty food. The Aubergine Schnitzel was exceptional.
Food was deliciously fresh, took a while to get to the table but we thought it was because the food was not pre-prepared, including the gorgeous honey and thyme sponge pudding - not a microwave in sight! Flavours were great and portion sizes very generous. We ordered 2 sides between 3 of us and couldn't finish them.
Service was pleasant enough - I tend to mark hard here - it was the note of insincerity that jarred with me.
Will definitely be back to try all the things I wanted to order.
Good vegetarian food. Soup was just okay. Tortilla and pad Thai everyone loved
Had a great anniversary at The Gate Marylebone on Christmas Eve. A fantastic meal with great wine and service to match. A special shout out to our waiter in particular who made our anniversary very memorable.
food was nice when we eventually got it, the food was luke warm and our sides came out half way into eating our mains when they should be brought out together. they forgot to bring our wine out, one waiter did apologise and said 2 glasses were on the house but the wine he served us was disgusting and when we told the manager we didnt want to pay the discretionary 12.5% service charge he asked why but didnt apologise, just shrugged and held his hands open and said ok
Poor. Everything is pre-prepared and was given the wrong menu. Small portions.
really good vegetarian and vegan restaurant. Inventive dishes. Did we miss the meat? Not at all!
Excellent vegan food.
I made a late booking via Open Table, about two hours before. When we got to the restaurant we were told that our booking did not exist. I understand these things happen but the staff seemed unwilling to help. We were eventually seated and handed some menus. It took a while to have our orders taken but a lady eventually came to serve us. Ten minutes after she took our order, she came back in a fluster and very abruptly told us she would need us to repeat our order again. Not a word of apology and you could almost hear her eyes roll despite it not being our mistake. The food was alright though the rotolo was very cold inside (like it had been taken out of the fridge—not sure if it was meant to be this way) but we could not be bothered sending it back at this point. It wasn’t a horrible experience but I’m certainly not in a hurry to return.
Food is always delicious and creative and staff well intentioned (if a little slow at times).
Food is fresh but the salad we ordered lacked seasoning and flavor. My friends like the aubergine miso but there aren't many options that are not tofu based.
Food was fantastic but the service was a little slow and my reservation wasn’t sent through so were sat down in the basement.
To be honest,i was disappointed. The gate in Hammersmith was always indeed of my favourite restaurants in London even though i am not a vegetarian ( although i have not visited for several years as i moved away) so i was looking forward to the one in Marylebone. I thought the menu was very non inventive and standard, good quality but nothing special. Service was sporadic and a bit chaotic.
Lovely evening. Great menu, polite staff, excellent wine and atmosphere.
Anniversary dinner, didn’t have a table ready, ordered bread and olives but starters came first. Asked for olives and bread afterwards as olives came after starters, was questioned why I asked for a bottle instead of a glass of wine. Is hat because I’m wearing Alexander McQueen suit and have tattoos and I’m an influencer?
The main course and desert were excellent but the first course let the whole meal down. The crispy marinated tofu tasted neither crispy nor marinated and instead had the consistency and taste of a potato croquette. Sadly disappointing.
Love the food at The Gate - always so delicious and well presented.
Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff too.
Lovely vegetarian food that a meat eater would enjoy
Food very average. Service slow
50 minutes to get 2 bowls of children’s pasta and 2 main for adults!!!
My daughter is vegan so she was very happy with the food. My only criticism is that £60 for a two-course lunch for two with one drink seems a little steep.
Great place - friendly service, lovely food. I also much preferred this venue to The Gate in Angel which I have found to be rather unfriendly whenever I’ve been and now avoid. I would recommend and go back to The Gate Marylebone anytime!
The most delicious vegan desserts. Brilliant menu with lots of gluten free options aswell.
This will be my new regular restaurant to take my friends to.
Disapointed that they only offer a set menue for lunch. With 6 of us it lacked variety, otherwise, a wonderful experience.
As ever, The Gate offers an inventive menu which is beautifully presented. It is also surprisingly filling.
Innovative tasty dishes and attractive comfortable restaurant
Excellent food but disappointing service (30 min wait for main course & no checking as to whether we would like to order further drinks).
I was looking for a Vegan restaurant that looked like a regular (non wooden bench/hippy) place with great food and a bar, for a birthday treat for a family member. This was perfect. It has a lovely ambiance. One of my carnivorous group at the first mouthful of the Miso Glazed Aubergine looked up and said "wow! this is really nice"..and he wasn't wrong. The Red Thai Curry was gorgeous too. We were too full to sample the dessert menu. Will have to be next time. It's a really great place. I highly recommend.
Both me and my girlfriend has several digestion problems throughout the night. It is extremely likely that our malaise was caused by the food at the restaurant.
I've been a Gate fan for 25 years [ over its 3 locations and even the Belsize Park one that closed ] its always been in my view the best restaurant in London, I've spent birthdays, weddings and many other occasions there, we visited last Saturday and i have to say it was very poor, first of all the menu which is small no problem there but with two Thai dishes and two raw salads [ it was 2 degrees outside and why two Thai dishes ] i ended up with the Mexican option not something i would of picked but with the knowledge that these guys work magic in the taste dept. well they certainly didn't this time first dish in 25 years that was just ok my partner said the same about her dish i have to say the starter we shared was the same just lacked taste ...over the years The Gate has always amazed me taste wise and service wise ...we spent £55 hard earned money on a average meal. we left very deflated
Yummy & Delicious - well worth a visit. The accoustics were a little clattery for me, but otherwise very good.
The Gate is a nice restaurant with a vegetarian vibe. Very nice service, food is fine.
Nice place and food but service could definitely be improved.
Wonderful veggie and vegan food (the vegan cappuccino cheesecake is the best dessert I’ve EVER tasted!), we enjoyed the curry and aubergine dishes too - the lentil and vegetable soup was a little disappointing (thinner consistency than expected and a bit bland) and the mains portions are modest but a great ambience, friendly staff and would definitely recommend and return 💚🌱
Nice neighbourhood and ambience
Tasty food although service was terrible. Waited nearly an hour for our food without anyone offering us a drink or acknowledging us. Then they added a service charge.
As a non-veggie, I was impressed by the standards of starters and puddings at this leading non-meat restaurant. My main course, though, was really quite unappealing - a bit like a parody meat-eater's view of what veggie fare is like. And was a little surprised by how high the bill was!
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavour of the dishes at the Gate. The mushroom risotto was perfectly cooked and rich in flavour.
This is a fantastic restaurant that I would recommend to all regardless of whether you are vegetarian or not.
This is an excellent vegetarian (and vegan) establishment which we have used quite often since this branch of the chain opened. This was a lunch for 3 on a Monday, with not very many other customers. It is often much busier in the evening. We have got to know the menu quite well, but there were several interesting seasonal specials on offer to add variety.
Really great food however consistently poor inexperienced service with unacceptable food pacing.
