Friendly, great value venue - perfect for pre-theatre dining before moving upstairs to Theatre at the Gate. Recommended.
First time at The Gatehouse. We loved it. Wonderful atmosphere. Historic feeling setting. Interesting menu. Charming waitress and so patient with all our special requests. She was also very good and checking up on us to see if we needed anything. Would definitely return.
Fun night. Attentive staff
The starter was good, however the main course was really really disappointing. It was a very below average roast dinner, nothing really tasted of anything, there’s was nothing special about it. The beef was nicely cooked but somehow flavourless. It was a tiny bit better than a cheap carvery type roast dinner. The cod and chips were completely bland and again, flavourless.
Service was great but probably wouldn’t go back.
Second visit here, the first was brilliant both food and service.
Second time ok but was far busier so not as good..
Booked a table for 3 and asked for outside at point of reservation. On arrival we were told they didnt take reservations for outside. Yes there was space for us outside but we couldn’t sit at tables on left as they were reserved!
Food very generous and we ordered too much. Main courses were overcooked. Starters great. Good choice of different wines which we loved.
Quite pricy but would give it another go.
We got boxes FOC to take our unfinished food home which was well received.
Food was fine, house white very acceptable, service ok but took a little time to get bill.
more people should come, It is a great experience
We booked a table for Father's Day. The service we received was fantastic, really friendly staff, very efficient and professional. The food was excellent, as was the wine! Quite expensive overall, but worth it as we had a really good time. This is not our first visit and will not be the last!
Unusually poor service - lack of beer, slow to bring drinks despite not being busy. Not like we have been used to there. Really shoddy service
One of my favourite pubs in North London. Great friendly staff, amazing food & a fabulous beer garden. I’ve become a regular. Can’t fault anything. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ for everything
A really lovely place, really good food especially the chunky chips and lovely waitress service, engaging with the customers. All staff were very welcoming & friendly.
Nice enought venue - but very average food and patchy service. We went for a Sunday roast and it was very bland - and expensive when considering what you can get in far better restaurants for the same price.
We have been going to the Gatehouse for a number of years
But on this occasion the food was really bad
I can only imagine this due to a new chef
Very disappointed !
This is a lovely pub restaurant with particularly good roasts, including vegetarian. The staff are friendly; all in all made a lovely afternoon. Will be back
First visit in many years and pleased with the balance between pub and dining. Will have to come back to try the beer.
Friendly staff and we enjoyed the quiet, well behaved dog at the neighbouring table. This is definitely a dog friendly establishment.
Good range of dishes for a family birthday meal with options for most tastes, although they had sold out of steaks.
I would definitely recommend to a friend. However, the only thing that went wrong was that they had not received my online reservation. Fortunately there were tables available - but what if there had't been?
Best fish and chips ever BUT an inordinately long wait.
Always outstanding - best Sunday roast in Highgate - and I've had em all!
Great pub, dog friendly
Very good food. Large portions and the Sunday roast is hearty.
Lovely bear garden and the pub is very spacious. Good service.
The roast was gorgeous and the lemon meringue was on another level, it was great.
Lovely place to eat, great atmosphere, but sometimes the food is hit and miss... I had the roast chicken and it was quite tough and dry not really worth the £17.50
The staff were very friendly and made sure that our meal fitted in with our theatre plans.
Really delicious food. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves a traditional pub dinner.
Great Sunday roast. Take bus to Highgate Village.
I have been to the gate house to eat before but unfortunately second time round wasntbgood they forgot to put our order through to the kitchen, the kitchen couldn’t cope and our food which was ok was an hour late, we had to send the fish back because it’s wasnt cooked properl. The manager was excellent took the food off the bill and apologised the staff were very helpful and apologetic . It was a shame as I had taken my 82 year old mother for a treat.
Buzzy, popular place with interesting history - which can be read on the walls. Charming, but harassed staff - the food is not cheap and only adequate...
Good very good and service much better than last visit when so slow had to rush through food.
We went on a minday so it was nice snd guiet and cosy and ghe tapas were generous and delicious
Tried Sunday jazz nite for first time and it was good fun and the meal - we both had fish- was nicely cooked and presented and the service was good.
They persuaded me to come here for dinner instead of the usual Red Lion and sun. I wasnt disappointed. Level of food in the area must be very high. Thanks for a memorable dining experience!
Fabulous food and overall pretty good value for money, especially the lunch specials.. Loved eating in the sunny garden.
Second visit in the last 4 weeks. Once again, exceptional food, good service, although not as efficient as last time, but none the less, good.
Would visit again!
Booking was easy. Staff friendly. We sat in the garden room, which was lovely. I ordered the skate meal and it was delicious and my family ordered the paella, which I think was a little overpriced for what it was plus service charge of 12.5% was added to the bill whether you received good service or not. Overall a beautiful pub in a beautiful area, and I enjoyed reading about all the famous and infamous people featured in photos on the walls.
Myself and my family had a great Sunday lunch meal.. the area we sat did have a broken window blind so no natural light on our table 🤔..
the staff were all very attentive & polite ..
for sure I would recommend going there to friends..
Although not frequent visitors, we are always recognised and get a welcome. Service is with a smile and the food never disappoints. Excellent.
I booked The Gatehouse at the last minute as my husband, son an I were in the area and what a surprise!
I had the paella and I have to say that I haven't tasted such an authentic dish since I visited Spain many years ago! It was fantastic!
Our other dishes, a roast beef and pheasant breast were equally as good.
The addition of the jazz music was a bonus! I will return!
Best steak ever, great music, lovely staff, open fires, love it.
Cosy country pub in London! Delicious food, wine, great helpful staff
