The George Brasserie
There was such an air of indifference that I thought we were wearing the cloak of invisibility. Good to see a number of vegetarian options, but chicken dish was the winner and the salmon, over facing with two portions and a rich tomato based sauce. Telling me that rose champagne would be OK even though it was towards the end of the bottle because it is re gassed did not reassure me. Overall disappointing. We have eaten here on many occasions and frequent
Y had good experiences, but this evening fell short.
Love this place so much we eat here alot and would recomend this to anybody.
Excellent. Civilised environment, lovely service and great food. Thoroughly enjoyed
Excellent Sunday lunch with excellent service, would recommend
We've used the George a number of times as half way meet with friends. This was the first time service has been a little off the mark.
Small matters such as forgotten water order, gluten free pudding request came with gluten, delayed salad.
It just felt like there was a number of inexperienced staff, which was noticeable only in that we have had such good service previously.
A very pleasant lunch in good surroundings. Very pleasant and efficient staff. A good experience.
Lovely food, nice staff and good service - always enjoy going there
Unfortunately my sister who had asked for a chicken tikka masala was brought the vegetarian version. Having had several mouthfuls and realising the mistake she called over a member of staff who dealt with quickly and efficiently
As usual the Friendliness of the Staff was excellent. We received an excellent welcome on arrival and throughout the service could not be faulted. The food was it's usual high standard and the portion control was just right. This has become our favourite establishment for celebrations.
Love coming to The George....always a fab service, cheerful staff who were very attentive and nothing too much trouble. Good atmosphere on a warm evening. Food was pretty good too. Never been disappointed and will definately book again. Better than the Old Bridge in Huntingdon.
This is a pleasant gastro pub and hotel. We have been going a while and the food improves each time. The service is friendly and good. It lacks a bit of atmosphere
Almost empty on a Friday evening which may be due to the price. Food was good but not outstanding.
A nice venue but no ambience or atmosphere.
Perfect Sunday morning breakfast, wonderfully cooked food, very good service in a relaxed atmosphere. The granola, natural yogurt with pear and apple compote combination was superb. We'd like lessons from the chef in the art of making the perfect poached egg.
This place is really lovely the food is excellent and service is great.
As a birthday treat, we were very pleased as we had never been to The George before. The special 'birthday' plate after the meal gave great pleasure. Thank you for making this day special.
The George is a lovely venue and the food good (we ate there on a themed dining evening so the price was set). However, on this occasion we found the (drinks) service to be quite slow. We also wish the venue had a little more ambience....it seems to be lacking in atmosphere.....but the surroundings are pleasant and the staff friendly.
Sorry to see set menu has been abandoned for a lunchtime. A la carte menu rather heavy and expensive for a lunch. Was not offered ‘bar menu’ until queried change of menus.
Shame about all changes to menus have used as meeting place with friends for lunch for many years, now not quite what we are looking for.
Celebrated our wedding anniversary with lunch at the George and had a good time. Food was fine with a good choice and the service excellent.
We will always recommend our friends and relatives to go to the George at Buckden in fact we are having a family lunch this Sunday 19th May there for my husbands 80th birthday. Unfortunately I forgot to ask if they could do a cake but hey ho I am absolutely sure the meal will be fantastic.
Very friendly staff my American friends loved the food and the design of the Hotel.
Fabulous service, food and environment. Just lovely.
Great food and service. Presentation and quality superb,
Fully recommend a visit.
Very nice lunch especially the panna cotta with rhubarb which was one of the best puds I have had in a long time.
Although okay, the food was not exceptional or memorable. We have eaten here before a few years ago and still talk about the food we had at the time as it was amazing.
The service was great but probably wont go back because of the prices / plain food.
This is a lovely place to have a business lunch. Food is delicious and staff were friendly.
A very warm welcome and we were given a choice of tables. The special menu do fish and fizz was very good and complimentary bread and butter was included. We added in a pudding which was delicious. Excellent and friendly service.
Excellent All round great food wine.
Loved my Meatball Starter and my Wife's Goats cheese starter was spot on. We both had the Salmon for main and probably too much Spinach for our liking but everything was brilliantly cooked. The Poached pair to finish with was exceptional with a hint if cinnamon and cardamom in the poaching I think. First Class and will go back again
Lovely as always but I’m guessing you have some new chairs - unfortunately a little too low? Maybe rethink? X
Perfect venue for a family occasion. Can't fault it.
Very enjoyable lunch, very busy but staff served us quickly and efficiently. The food was very good too. We would definitely return.
An excellent evening out celebrating my Wife's birthday.
Lovely food, we always find the George a very friendly and calm place.
Wonderful setting with a menu to satisfy every pallete. Not too noisy and the staff were attentive and checked on everything throughout. Overall, a very good experience thank you.
Our meal was FAB-U-LOUS!!! A party of four all very impressed with our food compliments to the chef! Waiting staff were also very friendly and helpful we shall be back!
Food well presented and delicious
We had a great lunch from the prix fixe menu and excellent service. Looking forward to tryin dinner
Hadn’t been to the George in a long while but it didn’t disappoint.
Food was delicious, staff were superb, going again next month. Would highly recommend
Very good Sunday lunch with friends (fixed price menu). Service was prompt and friendly and not too noisy.
We enjoyed a very nice two course meal and a bottle of wine using their Feb Fridays dinner offer which was excellent value for money. The food was very good especially the lamb which was very tender and flavoursome. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. As there was only one other table occupied in the conservatory it did lack atmosphere compared to the main restaurant.
Phone to book aa table on Saturday 16th at 9am and told that nothing available for Sunday around 1:30-2pm. Said they could do a table for 2 bit nothing else. Went onto the George website, clicked on opentable and saw the multiple tables available for 4 people . Booked a table for 1:30 and had completed this by 9:08, yet 8 minutes earlier their were no spaces according to the person on the phone.
Had lunch on the Sunday and all ok but nobody senior to talk to. I called on the Monday and got lame excuses but no apology. They said that people must have cancelled between 9:00 and 9:08. if that was the case they must have had multiple cancellations all within 8 minutes.
totally unsatisfactory response
When you called there were no table's of 4 available. An online cancellation had taken place shortly after your call, our system show us this. This enabled you to book a table of 4 online. You spoke to a supervisor (senior staff) on the day when you handed in your voucher. You spoke with Amanda on the telephone yesterday and we have listened back to the call - she apologised twice! You were able to book a table and said to Amanda you enjoyed your lunch. No idea on the point of this review!
