The George Brasserie
first time we had been there and was very good all round.
would go back
We enjoyed a one-off meal for two with overnight stay on a Friday evening, and were delighted to find, unexpectedly, that there was a special Friday night dinner for two offer of £45 for two courses from the A la Carte menu and a bottle of house wine - and we added some extras of course. This made for an exceptional good value experience, with good food and wine.
We dined at the Sunday evening dinner and wine for two offer. I had roast sirloin my wife had the roast chicken, both were very good. It was extremely good value. I would recommend it.
We booked for my birthday, and whilst food was lovely expected a lot more from the George.
Service wasn’t great, didn’t check back on our meals until they took our plates. The place is looking tired and the surroundings, service and ambience didn’t seem worth the prices they were charging.
Overall experience was a bit flat and I wouldn’t rush back
Everything was perfect as usual. Christmas lunch booked.
Great environment and friendly staff. Good service and tasty food.
As fairly frequent visitors we had our usual very pleasant, civilised time, thanks to your excellent staff.
We were 2 couples and thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The George Buckden, we ate a excellent meal and then relaxed over coffee in the armchairs - well done and thankyou.
Great food as always
Very pleasant nicely situated Hotel/Restaurant, comfortable and with good food and service.
Lovely food reasonably priced super location.
We always enjoy the food at The George and lunch on Sunday was no exception. The only criticism was and this is personal taste, the raspberry cream on the lemon tart was too dominating & didn’t allow the lemon flavour to come through. Plain cream next time please.
The 2 for £49 offer does not specify a £3 supplement for the steak nor does it state this on the menu! The house white was awful.
Another fantastic meal at the George, this was their Australian theme night. But whether a themed diner or their a-la-carte menu the food and service is always great.
Had to wait a long time for any service and for anyone to come and take our lunch order.
I eventually had to go up to the bar and order lunch.
As this was a business lunch I could have done without the hassle of going to the bar to order lunch and leave my client on their own.
When it came to paying the bill the same thing.
I could not get anyone’s attention so again had to walk up to the bar to pay the bill leaving my client on their own again.
The saving grace was the food was very good.
Food under seasoned and quite "ordinary"
Two previous visits had been much better so a disappointing experience
There was such an air of indifference that I thought we were wearing the cloak of invisibility. Good to see a number of vegetarian options, but chicken dish was the winner and the salmon, over facing with two portions and a rich tomato based sauce. Telling me that rose champagne would be OK even though it was towards the end of the bottle because it is re gassed did not reassure me. Overall disappointing. We have eaten here on many occasions and frequent
Y had good experiences, but this evening fell short.
Love this place so much we eat here alot and would recomend this to anybody.
Excellent. Civilised environment, lovely service and great food. Thoroughly enjoyed
Excellent Sunday lunch with excellent service, would recommend
We've used the George a number of times as half way meet with friends. This was the first time service has been a little off the mark.
Small matters such as forgotten water order, gluten free pudding request came with gluten, delayed salad.
It just felt like there was a number of inexperienced staff, which was noticeable only in that we have had such good service previously.
Really beautiful restaurant and building. Very impressive service and high quality dining. A pure delight and a wonderful discovery. Had a lovely meal and a great way to celebrate my husband’s Birthday! We will be returning again soon. Highly recommend!
A very pleasant lunch in good surroundings. Very pleasant and efficient staff. A good experience.
Lovely food, nice staff and good service - always enjoy going there
Unfortunately my sister who had asked for a chicken tikka masala was brought the vegetarian version. Having had several mouthfuls and realising the mistake she called over a member of staff who dealt with quickly and efficiently
As usual the Friendliness of the Staff was excellent. We received an excellent welcome on arrival and throughout the service could not be faulted. The food was it's usual high standard and the portion control was just right. This has become our favourite establishment for celebrations.
Love coming to The George....always a fab service, cheerful staff who were very attentive and nothing too much trouble. Good atmosphere on a warm evening. Food was pretty good too. Never been disappointed and will definately book again. Better than the Old Bridge in Huntingdon.
This is a pleasant gastro pub and hotel. We have been going a while and the food improves each time. The service is friendly and good. It lacks a bit of atmosphere
Almost empty on a Friday evening which may be due to the price. Food was good but not outstanding.
A nice venue but no ambience or atmosphere.
Perfect Sunday morning breakfast, wonderfully cooked food, very good service in a relaxed atmosphere. The granola, natural yogurt with pear and apple compote combination was superb. We'd like lessons from the chef in the art of making the perfect poached egg.
This place is really lovely the food is excellent and service is great.
As a birthday treat, we were very pleased as we had never been to The George before. The special 'birthday' plate after the meal gave great pleasure. Thank you for making this day special.
The George is a lovely venue and the food good (we ate there on a themed dining evening so the price was set). However, on this occasion we found the (drinks) service to be quite slow. We also wish the venue had a little more ambience....it seems to be lacking in atmosphere.....but the surroundings are pleasant and the staff friendly.
Sorry to see set menu has been abandoned for a lunchtime. A la carte menu rather heavy and expensive for a lunch. Was not offered ‘bar menu’ until queried change of menus.
Shame about all changes to menus have used as meeting place with friends for lunch for many years, now not quite what we are looking for.
Celebrated our wedding anniversary with lunch at the George and had a good time. Food was fine with a good choice and the service excellent.
We will always recommend our friends and relatives to go to the George at Buckden in fact we are having a family lunch this Sunday 19th May there for my husbands 80th birthday. Unfortunately I forgot to ask if they could do a cake but hey ho I am absolutely sure the meal will be fantastic.
Very friendly staff my American friends loved the food and the design of the Hotel.
Fabulous service, food and environment. Just lovely.
Great food and service. Presentation and quality superb,
Fully recommend a visit.
Very nice lunch especially the panna cotta with rhubarb which was one of the best puds I have had in a long time.
