Good food, good service, pity about the Covid 19 putting people off.
Our favourite place for Sunday lunch - great quality and perfectly cooked.
First trip to the George and we had great service under the Covid 19 restrictions. We had the chicken burger and hunters chicken pie, and the food was well cooked and presented. We finished with the brownie pudding which was perfect. We will not hesitate to go back when we can. Very impressed!
Best lamb shank I’ve ever eaten, it was that good! Everything was spot on!
Just out of lockdown so very quiet, only one other table taken. Sad. Staff were amazing in every way! We will return!
Fantastic Sunday roast, good selection of beers.
Service was second to none, informative of the menu, attentive whilst serving all the tables.
Always great service , food always hot and plenty thank you
Fantastic food! We took our friends to the George for a meal & they were really impressed. Another positive was that the gluten free options were plentiful! Quick service & the staff were really friendly.
Fish pie didn’t contain much, if any ,fish and was full of mussels. This was pointed out to the waiter who said he’d tell the chef! Didn’t seem to realise this was a complaint despite all the mussels being left.
Sausage and mash nice but not very generous portion of mash.
The food at the George is always lovely and the service is fabulous. I would highly recommend it.
Excellent Sunday Roast. Will definitely visit again soon.
Absolutely ridiculous, we booked a table about an hour before going to the venue. When we arrived the staff were a little bemused, we were seated at a table but a few minutes later we are informed that there was no food left. No wonder the woman was bemused at out turning up, she seemed unaware that we had even booked a table. This may well be a flaw in the booking system, so it’s worth calling in future to book a table and find out if there’s any food available.
We went to the George for Sunday lunch for the third time in recent months. The food was excellent. My chicken was succulent, my Mum’s beef was cooked perfect juicy and pink in the middle and the variety and taste of the veg is awesome. My only compliant is that they give you too much!! The service was also top drawer, and the ambience in the old part is great. There quite a lot of coffin-dodgers, but I prefer that to screaming kids any day of the week.
Very quiet on a Saturday at lunch time. Food menu was different to the one on the website which was a shame as it sounded a bit special but was actually very average. Food not very warm and didn't feel particularly made fresh. Not awful but could be a whole lot better. Wet paint on doors and cubicle walls in the ladies toilets with no warning. Service was quick and friendly.
Well run, service top drawer. As for the food, well, mine was 5-star, hers 3-star, and, yes, I had both. When they do a good steak, I think she could be tempted back...
Despite being late because of road closures the waitress was understanding and we weren’t hurried to order and there was no pressure to choose quickly from the varied menu.
Roast was amazing one of the best I have had ! Only criticism I would have liked it a bit hotter but was 😋 delicious
We had seen The George on TV (Hotel Inspector) and were curious to see how it was doing. We were both pleasantly surprised and had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and lots of it and service was very friendly and efficient. It has the feel of a proper old pub and we have no complaints.
Great service and made to feel welcome. The three of us had a Sunday lunch that tasted very good but the plate of vegetables was only enough for two people. The sweet was a bit disappointing as the chocolate mousse was not mousse but dry sponge and the Eton Mess a bit small.
The George was really busy, the staff were run off their feet so could have done with help from the manager. Other than that the staff were very good and charming, the food was delicious and big portions. The outside area is in need of attention but again that is down to the management.
This was our first visit and we were bitterly disappointed that there wasn’t one starter or main that was simple, good food. Everything was fussy and complicated. No comfort food to choose from.
The George is a lovely pub and hotel in Henfield we have been going there for many years. About ten years ago we had a couple of bad experiences with waiting times and poor food. About a year ago we were in the area on the Sunday and went for lunch the food was superb and one of the best roast dinners I have ever had they have a fantastic chef we have been back several times and have never been disappointed. There was a lovely lady serving us from Hungary and we said how great the food was and she was so pleased as her husband is the wonderful chef. Great Sunday roast I haven’t been in the week but i expect it is as good highly recommend.
The food was delicious , however I would have preferred to have had the gravy served separately and not to have it poured over everything on the plate. Also, I loved all of the vegetables but maybe serve an additional portion for a party of 3. Otherwise very good.
