The George Inn
Very nice food and staff can't fault it. Only problem was we booked through OpenTable it appears that we weren't booked! But we were accommodated
On the day that myself and a friend went to The George for lunch it was very busy. We had booked thankfully but rather than be shown to our table the man behind the bar pointed toward the restaurant and said we were in the corner. After sitting for 20minutes I caught the eye of a female serving staff who said she'd be with us in 2 minutes.......15 more minutes later I managed to get the attention of a lovely member of staff. She was less than impressed that we had not be asked if we wanted drinks by the man at the bar, who apparently had also failed to tell us when we arrived, that there was a 45 - 60 minute wait for food. True to her word our food was the next served so we waited for 45 minutes. The food was tasty but definitely not worth the wait. We had booked for 12.30 but were eating closer to 2pm. I expect The George would be ideal on quieter days but it appeared that they struggled to cater for large numbers. Very disappointed.
The lady that took our order asked us to pass the menus to her, she delivered the food to the same corner of the table which I did not think was good customer service. We were a family catching up over lunch and this made her look lazy as if she wanted us to do her job for her! I was not impressed with that staff member. The bar staff and other waiting staff were lovely! We will be back as it is in a prime location for our families to meet! Such a shame
Two of the mains were very good, but the pie and mash was dry as if kept too long under heat.
We had not visited The George for quite a number of years and found it very pleasant with lovely friendly staff which is a big plus. Food was excellent and we would throughly recommend a visit. We will definitely book again.
Was great service shown to lovely table but asked if we could eat outside as was a very hot evening it wasn't a problem. Food looked lush and tasty, great value for money. Very nice, helpful staff.
Very helpful and responsive staff, nice pub atmosphere with good food. Although there was a party in the conservatory room, the layout meant that the main pub restaurant did not feel noisy.
The George -FAB, however they don’t use opentable!
The dining experience was very good. We regularly meet for lunch here. My only adverse comment is about the booking process. Upon our arrival the staff at the George had no record if our booking. Fortunately there were tables available for us, although not the table we would normally have. Thus is not the first time that a booking I have made here using Open Table has not been recorded by the restaurant. There must be some breakdown in the communication between Open Table and the George which Zi suggest you investigate
Fabulous as always. Took a friend who had never been there before and she loved it. Said she had the best fish and chips she has ever had.
Comfortable, welcoming with a degee of olde worlde ambiance. Would happily use sgain
A warm welcome at the bar and good service there. A wait of approximately 40 minutes for a main course we found to be too long. Perhaps we should have been advised of this when we ordered. When it finally arrived, the food was delicious.
Great value traditional Sunday roast at our favourite local pub
The place was EMPTY. At just after 9pm the vacuum cleaner came out - staff started to go home and the back door was opened to allow rubbish to be taken out causing an enormous blast of cold air to sweep through the pub!
Food was OK but I HATE properties that start to clean up when there are customers dining- hotels do it at breakfast time!!
No wonder it was empty!
The George was an absolute delight to find particularly as I have coeliac disease and have to be very careful where I eat. The choice was fantastic and it was the first time in a long time that I felt on a par with my friends in terms of having options. Service was attentive and efficient and all the staff were very friendly.
Great food, staff very friendly and helpful.
I have a gluten intolerance and they had several options on the menu.
Good value for money
Will be going back with some friends for Sunday lunch
Always a great time here. Food lovely and superb staff. Thank you,
Went to the George for my wives birthday on 5th Febuary, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was piping hot, plentiful, and well presented. So good we plan to go back very soon.
Although it is not a particularly short distance outside Cambridge, it is well worth it.
Best Sunday Lunch I have had outside of the home environment.
We couldn’t fault our evening out at The George — as a table of 8 we received good service and delicious food, and we appreciated the low noise levels so we could hold easy conversations with each other. We would certainly be happy to come again.
Always a great time. Great food, great staff and great service. Thank you.
The visit to the George Inn was not as successful as previous visits. the food was a less quality standard than previous visits. the service was slower, from point of order to food on table was 40minutes, a long time compared to previous experience there.
Will be visiting with friends in February hoping that service and quality will have returned.
Food was ok-ish although my roast beef was raw. Regarding the service, it is the second time I am visiting this pub and my experience is identical to that of my first visit: Service is disorganized and VERY VERY SLOW!
Service and friendliness of staff was very good. Food was nice.
Works lunch, they mixed up the table booking but no problem and messed up drinks a couple of times.
Food was excellent, will definitely go back.
Would thoroughly recommend The George. Always great food and lots of choices (especially with regard to pies). We had a steak this time and have to say it was absolutely superb. Cooked just the way I asked for. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and they give great service.
Excellent menu choice and quality of food. Can recommend
Lovely fresh cooked food. Not a lot of choice but this can be a good thing. Great service too
Good evening and the food was good. Pleasant people and good atmosphere
Food was fair value although the starters were over priced. Staff processed you rather than serviced you at the table. It seemed down to inexperience amongst the staff that said food was served hot which is always good.
The calamari was a bit chewy and the portion of cod was so enormous I could not finish it. Smaller and more flavoursome would have been preferable.
My companions chose other dishes and were satisfied.
This is the 3rd time we have visited The George since its new ownership. The staff are so friendly and the food is exceptional. There is something for everyone. I did have my doubts about going back after a terrible experience with the landlady who previously was there. Now I would advise anyone in the area to pay them a visit they won't be disappointed.
most enjoyable sunday lunch even though ooen table didn’t book as requested but they fitted us in o.k
Stumbled across the George one Sunday on our way home from a weekend away. Couldn’t have chosen a nicer place for a Sunday lunch - staff friendly and efficient and food tasty. Thank you.
Great food and service. We had burgers and they were exceptional. Staff were friendly and service was fast.
Waiting staff didnt appear interested
Delivered food and walked away without asking if we needed any sauces or more drinks
Carpet is filthy
Toilets- poor- only 1 with toilet paper
Brought desert menus- but didnt tell us that one was not available
Absolutely fabulous Sunday roast. In fact the best we have had in Cambridge. Loads of beef and cooked exactly as we like it. Everything was freshly cooked rather than warmed up as you get in a lot of restaurants. Also had other meals there which have been fab too.
Sorry but disappointing. We arrived and they didn't know we had booked a table on line until he looked it up. Very young lady waited on us with no experience. (Not her fault obviously not been trained). Ordered wine and the bottle was just placed on table for us to open and pour. Had to request the correct glasses for red wine. One of our party had the fish which was excellent but the rest was ok. Salmon over cooked and dry.
We had a small issue with mouldy pitta on a starter but this was quickly resolved and the meal taken off the bill.
Food was excellent, best roast I had eaten out for a while, would strongly recommend.
