The Golden Retriever
Perfect and very good service
Fab value for money great fizz Friday £35 for Moët great pub food and service
One of the loveliest Sunday roasts we've had, all four of us really enjoyed our meals. Staff were warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble.
Great atmosphere. Extensive menu and good to catch up with friends.
Family Sunday roast for 7. A little slow service for food and drinks but friendly waiter made up for it and meal worth the wait.
It was a very busy Sunday lunchtime. We had a nice table for two near the fireplace (as requested). The service was excellent given it was so busy. The only drawback was that the food was disappointingly just warm rather then hot.
The ambiance was spoilt because it was so busy and we could hardly carry on a conversation. We have made a booking for Boxing Day evening at 7.30 when I guess it will be similarly busy. Is there a quiet area you can recommend ? I am thinking whether we should go to the Warren House instead and which is closer to where we live. Your advice would be welcomed.
The lunch was very good , service excellent, choice of tables,
The only down side was the Ladies toilets are in need of repair,
cistern broken, door lock broken, floors dirty, hand dryer not working, the carpets in the entrance to the toilets are very dirty and greasy and upstairs not good for those with mobility problems, there is a down stairs loo but locked and key needed but unable to get attention of bar staff as very busy.
This toilet situation is a shame because everything else was so good, toilets do in my book, denote the hidden standards of the restaurant so hope they are given some attention.
Sorry, my review is in dutch. Een fijne plek om heerlijk te eten. Reserveren is aan te raden, want het kan druk zijn. Het eten was gewoon goed. De bediening was vlot en attent.
Really good food and service
Excellent service, food and good value. Only negative is more chicken on menu would have been good.
The pizza was great and good value for money. We will definitely be back
Very busy, lovely atmosphere, food good but service a little slow
Food was lovely even though it was a set menu for Mother’s Day
A very enjoyable experience. Will probably avoid Sunday in future as it was just so crowded and therefore noisy. An indication of how popular it is important guess!
Food was very good as was the service but didn't like where our table was. Much prefer sitting to the right side of the pub and in future if no tables available that side would give it a miss.
Nice evening out with my parents. Shared the duo of cheese with my mum to start, with my other half and dad having the pate. No complaints both very nice. Was a good wait time between courses, didn’t feel too rushed or too long a wait. Mains arrived, wagu burger, rib eye steak and lamb shank were all very good. My mum wasn’t happy with her meal but all credit to the restaurant , it was taken away and replaced with an alternative of her choice, and she really enjoyed the replacement. Overall good value, good service and good atmosphere.
Meet and greet in the pub was good reservation was as requested and straight to seating area
waiter waited until we had settled the approached was friendly and advised us what specials were
excellent food for both of us and a very pleasant time had
would recommend to others
Great food, great ambience. Awesome.
Can get very busy so booking essential.
Great place, great food, great staff. Lovely meal with a friend
Service was a bit slow, drinks were forgotten and main course was brought out before starter was cleared. Food was very good. Price was good
Good reception, pleasantly escorted to table.
Excellent waitress named Victoria very attentive but not pushy
excellent service, food selection good and served hot where required
given time and space to select what was required good evening had by all
Good service, food very good & everything was available on the menu
We had 8 guys on a golf trip and loved this place. Food was pub style and ambience was great, we had n outdoor table on a beautiful night. They were very understaffed so service wasn’t great but cool spot.
Fabulous service food great value for money and super location
Been here a couple of times now and found it to be busy each time,( says something about the quality of the food and service) only downside with booking through opentable was it didn't actually place my booking so restaurant had no idea I was coming, luckely I had emails showing I had booked and was seated for my meal.
Best book direct via pub website.
Would recommend this restaurant good food ,service and good value for money.
We had a lovely family roast. Was really enjoyable
We came for a catch up with friends, I recommended here for a nice Sunday dinner and it didn’t disappoint, lovely roast enjoyed by all, the only issue we had was the appointment I made with open table hadn’t gone through to the restaurant but they sorted a table.
Lovely meal with the grandchildren food was amazing and the atmosphere was great
The golden retriever is a lovely venue. It has a welcoming atmoshpere.
Convenient meeting place, easy booking. Good service, delicious food in pleasant surroundings.
Food was lovely and staff were very friendly and attentative
Potatoes and cauli cheese were a bit... well done but tasted ok and rest of roast was very nice. Good overall
Friendly greeting on entering and good range of beers. Staff were very attentive and steaks cooked to our liking. Would recommend.
Good food, no waiting, friendly witresse - no problems - good value.
Sister visits from the Midlands and was dissatisfied with the new Saturday menu the set menu for £25 was £35 really practically everything on there was extra £
When we arrived we were advised that our booking was not in their system despite me having the email confirmation
Quite a wait between services but it was Father's Day
The roast was lovely but spoilt by the burnt roast potatoes
Helpful and friendly staff and good food which makes a pleasant experience.
Good quality food, friendly service and baby friendly.
We were quite concerned when we arrived as the car park was completely full and the pub was very busy. However, after a short wait we were seated to our reserved table and actually the starters and drinks came pretty swiftly considering, with main courses arriving a comfortable gap after we finished these. The food and service were excellent and I would highly recommend it. It's standard Vintage Inn menu - which has a variety of tried and trusted recipes so I suspect the quality is pretty similar all the time. Price was competitive too. We had a quiet table in a corner which was great. Bread platter probably not worth the money - have had much better in other restaurants, but otherwise everyone was very happy with their meals. Unlike many Vintage Inn's this pub does not take Gourmet Card - too busy.
