The food was some of the best we’ve ever eaten. It was our first time but it definitely won’t be our last. See you again soon.
Service was very good, friendly and well timed. The food was delicious although quite expensive; it would have been nice to have some vegetables included rather than having to order as extras. Overall we had a very nice time and all enjoyed our meals.
Unfortunately we were really disappointed. We both had the fillet steak medium-rare. Both were over-cooked, tough and unpleasant to eat. I’m afraid we won’t be eating here again.
Very nice meal can’t fault it
We had an amazing meal and evening. A couple of minor issues with food which was recified and money kindly removed from our bill. They do listen when they ask if evertinhg is alright.
Thank you, much appreciated
Had a lovely Sunday afternoon sat outside as the sun was shining and it was the perfect sun trap! Would recommend for that alone on a sunny day! But the food was just as fantastic, starter, main and dessert all really were amazing!
Would highly recommend and will deffinelty be back!
Staff were very friendly
Great atmosphere, amazing food
Felt like we were being rushed a little even though the restaurant wasn't full. However, this could also be construed as attentiveness so not marking down
Will definitely be back and will be recommending to friends
was really impressed with everything and our friends that were with is enjoyed it also
Welcoming when we arrived Attentive service Food was delicious. Wasn’t sure whether to have the blueberry deserts but the waitress described it well and it was lovely Definitely visiting again
The service was fantastic, a very nice welcome and an attentive waitress (Heidi) throughout. They brought over a complimentary prosecco and decorative dessert plate as it was my partner's birthday, which was a lovely touch. The only downside was that there was quite a limited menu as they were only offering the set menu that evening as opposed to a set menu offering with the availability of their main menu. The food was still great, but it would have been nice to have more choice. The dessert I had was great - a hazelnut chux bun with salted caramel ice cream - quite like a large ferrero rocher!
Fabulous food - will definitely be returning. Staff amazing and great drinks too
Nice ambiance, smart and modern, nice greeting and service overall. Food was trying to hard to be fine dining with items on the menu that were only smears blobs and a few leaves. A little pricing too compared like for like with others.
Nice refurb of restaurant, much more varied menu, service good and food top notch
Lovely meal at Grays Yard, excellent food, outstanding value and great service. Highly recommended.
We had a fabulous meal on Thursday evening. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious, even catering for my lovely vegan and gluten free friend. We are all looking forward to eating here again . We were a group of eight people and every single one said they would be recommending this restaurant to their friends.
Very good food and service !!!!
we're a family of five, table booked for 6pm on a Sunday evening. we only had a main course and dessert but we didn't get out until after 8pm. the mains took an hour to come. we had to chase the waitresses for extra drinks. my daughter was served a roast dinner with a Yorkshire pudding that was cut in half! My son had chips instead of mash and none of the serving staff noticed these little annoyances- this was a Mothers Day special menu so it's not as if it was overly complicated! we had to ask someone to clear our table ages after the mains had been finished. we felt forgotten the whole time we were in the restaurant. the final straw was the bill arriving which was wrong and had to be corrected- the special menu had a set price of £20 for 2 course which they hadn't applied. We've always tried to be loyal to this restaurant and it must be said the food was beautiful, but 9 times out of 10 when we come here the experience is awful, so we won't be coming back anytime soon!
Perfect Mother’s Day lunch!
Good food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend
We’d been looking forward to coming here since it’s been relaunched. It was our favourite place to spend special occasions. The new layout is great and the staff are lovely. Sadly the quality of the food has been lost in the reshuffle. I’ve never left a meal uneaten before but had to on this occasion. Considering the excellent quality we’ve always had here before we were incredibly disappointed. A real shame.
Food was excellent just needs a few kinks working out. Lovely atmosphere & surroundings
Exceptional! Just want chelmsford needs, proper food cooked well and not a chain
Food was very nice and came as ordered, but expensive. Not much atmosphere either.
Like to see more choice on the menu, otherwise a very nice evening out
Much preferred old restaurant chop block
Menu not as good and food !!!! No comparison
An interesting menu following Chop Bloc days but somewhat limited. Very disappointed to find filet steak was not on menu given previous history of this restaurant.
We came for a special dinner to celebrate getting engaged and my fiance's birthday. We were greeted with complimentary prosecco before our meal, and after our fantastic 3 course dinner we were treated again to fudge for my fiance's birthday. It was a lovely experience and we will be coming back :)
A very attractive setting to have one of the nicest take on the classic English breakfast. Good quality ingredients and well presented. I will visit again.
Found the downstairs bar, more like a canteen, far too bright, too much lighting, not enough seating, no ambience. Restaurant upstairs was much nicer, food and staff amazing -
Great new restaurant in Chelmsford, a bit disappointing no Fillet steak available on a Saturday night however we were not disappointed with the alternatives!! (Duck, ribeye, pork belly) Catered to allergies very well. A little slow in the bar with cocktails but it was extremely busy.
Same seating layout as the Choc Block (apart from it's now called Grays Yard) , more of a limited menu and wine list and MUCH cheaper. Go there, it won't break the bank
Has a great night out on 8-Mar for my Wife's birthday. Food was great and service was second to none. Really enjoyed our first visit here and will deifintely be returning in the near future.
Lovely food and excellent service. Thank you very much.
It was good to see a more adventurous menu but perhaps a little more attention to detail is needed as some things were not as described on the menu. Our waitress was excellent but the people who brought the food needed a bit more finesse. We enjoyed the food but there’s a bit of a gap between menu and presentation.
We went for a late lunch on a Friday and it was unsurprisingly quiet. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We all had steak for the main course and we were all happy. Would definitely visit again.
The place does not look that different after the refurb but the menu is now steak and non steak. Not quite there in terms of price bistro ratio sorry guys
Fabulously food and great service in a wonderful setting. Only issue was noise level coming from next table, who’d clearly been drinking for a while and felt the need to scream, rather than talk to each other. Not really the restaurants fault and they did apologise once the group had left, but it did give us a slight head ! Luckily they finished and left half way through our meal - so we were able to hear each other again!
As a previous fan of Chop Bloc we were excited to experience the new menu and restaurant decor and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and service was attentive but not in your face. The only slight criticism would be the new bar on the ground level which served great cocktails but lacked a little ambience...
This is the kind of food Essex is sadly lacking; invenitve, top quality, delicious. Already tried brunch which was really good, and dinner was such a great experience. Will absolutely be coming back soon, before everyone works out how good it is and bookings become impossible!
Small portions, 6 chips is not a side to go with a £30 tiny fillet.
Pretentious menu with poor descriptions, particularly the desserts, you had no idea what you were ordering. I ordered something, that didn't describe what it was, turned out to be a tart made with popping candy, which for £8, is juvenile.
Pushy service, trying to sell bottles of wine and overpriced sides, like hazelnut dukkah.
If this place wants to be taken seriously like Hawksmoor or Goodman's, take the air out of your ego and do the basics right.
Will never be back.
